  1. It's tough being a 2 sport athelete, especially track and football. Being a sprinter he wouldn't want to add too much muscle bulk. And he has been competing in track meets. He recently came 3rd in the 100m with a 10.4 time or better. The 3 freshmen who came this year have been really excellent it seems, so good for RP to move on. I believe it leaves us 3 schollies to fill before Sept. Do we have any glaring needs to fill from the portal?
  2. Ah, spring is the season of eternal hope. Our baseball and softball teams win, our golf teams are solid, and our football team is undefeated. But seriously, reading about spring practice has me salivating believing we will be better than last year. And we went 12-0!! Yes, lots of new faces in starting spots, but the talent level!! And true freshmen rocking it! I am so looking forward to the spring game. Hope to see y'all there.
  3. I read some think he is the best "pure passer" in the draft. Not sure what that means, but I wish him well. He is a good person, solid character. If he continues to develop he can have success in the league. He's still a Duck to me.
  4. I believe UCLA was the only D1 school to show any interest. Nico came very close to not having a school. He and the Bruins will have a lot of eyes on them. Will it translate to butts in the seats? Doubtful. Wins? Even more doubtful. Negative press. Most likely. Wish we played them this year... Well, like Mr. Fishduck pointed out, perhaps any attention is better than no attention.
  5. I'm sure someone will take a chance with this kid, but it will be interesting to see just where. Is it possible he doesn't get picked up? Will he even get the 2M he was unhappy with? Will he have time to learn an offense, jell with teammates, and have a productive final year? Seems like this kids parents didn't help him make a good choice. This appears likely to cost him millions in the future as well. I hope others are watching. And learning.
  6. Great points on Coach Lanning and Oregon. I hope it's true and continues. The attitude of entitlement is the demise of work ethic. Maintaining the work hard attitude is key for everyone's development. Keep it up coach. (Boy did we get lucky with his hire, or what!)
  7. Not to be rude, but WHO CARES!! Whiners will whine. Winners will win. Most people who post their personal thoughts probably shouldn't. Or at least get real facts first. NIL opportunities are available for all schools. Still need to put a "team" on the field not just a bunch of star players. Still need good coaching. Go DUCKS!!
  8. They've created their own conference...where they are mediocre out of the gate. It seems everyone knew, but themselves.
  9. Thanks JJ for covering this. We can only wait to see what happens. One thing for sure, college sports will never be the same. I often feel that the marginal or walk-on player in all sports provides the "heart and soul" for each team. These kids often work the hardest every practice. They bring energy pushing the starters. (I was one of those players, Mr. Inspirational) It will be sad if we lose those kids due to schollie limits. For sure some sports will be dropped or made club sports. (Is PSU seriously considering dropping bball, or was that an April fools prank) Oregon hockey has little chance to become school sponsored. Beach volleyball? Nope. Well, 1 year at a time. Is it August yet?
  10. OK. Had me for a minute!! Oi vey! Flag football indeed!
  11. I wonder how much young Arch got in NIL? Gotta believe it was a significant number. Always cracks me up when peops who benefit diss the method. Good on coach Lanning for using all the tools available.
  12. Count me as a big FAT NO!!! Giving the Beavis rats any attention is too much. We do NOT need to support them any more financially. They (and WSU) have stolen enough from the P12. Giving some 3rd sting wannabe a chance to "make a name" by putting a devastating hit on a qb or wr is a big no bueno! The current setup with free admission (food stuffs brought) and a controlled contact exhibition is the key. Let's not ruin the last vestige of college football.
  13. A BIG No Thanks! Risking injury for a nothing game is a no-brainer, non-starter. I like our format. Bring food for the needy, watch the new kids. Don't hit the qb's. Get some excitement for fall. It's what little we as fans have left that makes us feel like it's still college, and not nfl lite.
  14. The appointment of RFK Jr to sec of health is the reason I commented on TV ads. He has stated he wants to ban all pharmaceutical TV ads. So it could happen down the road. Most developed countries ban them. I have no opinion. But they are by far the largest buyer of ads and a large % of tv revenue.
  15. I thought Novosad looked the best of all qb's in the Spring game last year. Granted, DG was new to the offense but the fact AN didn't transfer suggests he thinks he has a real shot to play. I also think Luke Moga surprised some people. In other words, Dante Moore may be in the lead, but it appears to be a real solid competition. The best way to get the cream to rise to the top. I think our teams success this season will really reflect on our coaching staff. We have amazing athletes at every position. But not many are experienced in our offense. A"weird veterans team" indeed. We need guys to step up. The roster is now 100% Lannings players. We definitely have the potential. Will the coaches develop the talent to show up on the field? I think they will. But it's going to be a fun year watching. And this year's schedule is the time to do it.
  16. Let the USuC fans rant away. We will continue to just point to the scoreboard as we leave the field. Just win, baby!
  17. I have a hard time believing that a spring "game" is too much for health reasons. It's basically a practice with fans. A good time for all. They still gonna have 15 or 16 practices. I can understand tOSU starting later, but canceling seems to be for other reasons. Too bad.
  18. Btw, I think it's silly to infer that transfer players are not "devloped" compared to hischool recruits. New coaches teach new techniques and ideas. Players improve. Bo Nix is a perfect example. Different schemes also require player development. The only negative for me with regards to transfers is not having enough time as a fan to get to know them.
  19. Interesting way to measure transfers simply by quantity. Good teams get good talent from hischool but plucking key components, particularly for key positions should be the true measure. Would tOSU have made it without their qb transfer? Would Oregon? How many transfers were starters? That would be a good measure. Neither Colorado or Indiana went far, but both improved drastically in 1 year, and both had pretty large transfer #'s. Hischool recruits is still where it's at, but filling holes and adding key elements is the way. Clemson will adjust soon enough. Just wait and see.
  20. I agree. But Pharm ads are a large part of the total income for a network. Call it a base income. My concern is that loss could impact total net worth and reduce ability to offer large payouts for sports. I would think that the ads during the football game alone are not enough to cover the whole payout to each team (except maybe super bowl). But I'm just thinking out loud. There seems to be a lot of $$ out there to spend on CFB, at some point you think we might hit a wall, but clearly that's a long ways off.
  21. Being full share members is a necessity in my thinking. Without it could Indiana have the season they did? Unbalanced financial revenue would just continue to keep the conference teams unbalanced. The top teams always winning and bottom half never able to improve. I think rather a super league makes more sense, especially with paying players now becoming a reality. So, not wanting to be political, I have a question. We have assumed the media package in 2030 will be bigger then now. But, if pharmaceutical companies can no longer advertise on TV, that's a huge chunk of revenue that needs to be replaced. Will Fox and others be able to not only replace that but find more $$ somewhere?
  22. I lived 10 years in B.C. I love hockey (and know how to drive in the snow!) We had season tickets to the Portland Winterhawks back in the 80's for a few years. Its a game much better enjoyed in person then watching on TV. As mentioned, it's doubtful our club team will become varsity, unless special monies come in, though they do have a faithful, energetic fan base. International hockey is the best because fighting leads to ejection, so more skating, better hockey. When the USA won in 1980, I was still living in Eugene. I was so jacked! I tried to get others interested at my work, but it was a hard sell. A great memory though.
  23. $2.7M?!? How can he have an NIL value that high, and he isn't even a senior or graduated yet? Man, college football is getting expensive!
  24. Only $100!! Must have forgotten he wasn't in California.
