MariØ has everything going for him at Miami. Just like at Nebraska it will take a while for them to turn on what should be a dream pairing. But like at Nebraska it won't be pretty.

A little better than Pat Haden firing Kiffin on the tarmac.

I would say we have a home win against who we should beat. We have a home win against a worthy opponent. We now need to win on the road, and this one will be a pretty tough road game. All is not lost if we struggle a bit on the road in Pullman. We would definitely need to win in Arizona, or we have a road problem. So far I am very impressed with how Lanning is developing his version of the Ducks. I actually am really enjoying it, love the Lanning Ducks. The next big tests after that are the rivals. Can Dan handle the season ending rivals. The dawgs at Autzen and then the beavs at Reser, which could be a big game. The other games will be interesting too, but the defining games are the rivals. I suppose the championship and bowl games will be huge, but lets not get too far ahead of ourselves.

Would Willie Taggart Have Outperformed Mario Cristobal?
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
What we can analyze is where these two guys ended up at. Taggart took over an ACC old power program, so has our latest previous coach. Taggart took over FSU's program after they went 7-6 and went 5-7, then 4-5 and out. MariØ took over Miami's program after they went 7-5 and are expected to do better than 5-7, but that is something we can definitely compare. Willie was coaching about 500 ball and then the wheels fell off. Miami should stay above 500 in the preseason cream puff schedule, but then the conference schedule starts. I definitely look for Mario to lose at least one on the road he should win, and will watch as the prevent offense is installed against the ACC with, shall I say, curiosity. -
Quiet, they might ask for their money back! Actually he will do just fine in Miami. I am sure he is doing incredibly well with that $80 milllion they will be paying him. Playing out exactly as most thought here in Lanningland!

This game is on Lanning and the defense. In the past Oregon has had a hard time figuring out the WSU offense and shutting it down. Interesting game based on two young first time head coaches who were defensive coordinators. Their OC's are also young guys who are hotshots. I think this is a coaches test, and will be an interesting chess match. Who can out coach who, the next big test of Lanning as a coach of the Ducks. Can Dan Lanning out coach Dickert, and win on the road, two hurdles he needs to get over. I would say it is the perfect time for Lanning to give Bellotti a call and get to know how to play in Pullman. Knowing the intricacies of playing on the road could make a difference. I look forward to how Lanning approaches this game. It is refreshing to think our coach will be game planning based on the team he is facing. We might even see adjustments based on what the other side does. A part of the game I missed, beyond just scoring lots of points.

Would Willie Taggart Have Outperformed Mario Cristobal?
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
What you bring up for me is head coaches are better while at Oregon. Taggart style of football was a better fit, but there are too many what ifs to go too deep into the question, for me. Plus I might end up sick while discussing these two. The big definite is Justin Herbert would have been a better qb under Taggart. He may have been a Heisman winner, and just might have brought us a natty. Neither coach seems to be a qb whisperer, so the end for both coaches may have been when Justin left. Taggart is struggling again at FA, just like the other coach, in due time. Bottomline Oregon makes great Head Coaches, but that doesn't extend to their next job(s). Also I put Taggart out with the garbage when he left, just waved goodbye to the other guy, and shook my head when they both left. -
I don't see Ty as uncomfortable, at least I wouldn't describe him that way. I just don't see him commanding the field, and leading the teams emotions like Nix does. When you see a leader on the field or just about anywhere you can sense it, feel it when you are in their presence. This is something Ty needs to learn from Nix. The first play call I put on the coaches, and then the tipped ball wasn't on Ty. I do think Bo pulls both of those plays off. He was in sync and the players were paying complete attention to what Bo was going to do. I also think this is something that isn't easy for a back-up to come in and have. Maybe with Utah last year, where the team had already picked the back-up as the team captain, but the coaches decided to go with the other guy. Hopefully Bo stays healthy and we won't see if the team really would rally around Ty. Right now I agree Bo has it, and Ty is looking to find it. I will say players love to see a qb turn the ball up field like Bo does. He is a players qb, and has the edge that commands respect. Nobody doubts Bo would do anything he is asking them to do. This is an interesting subject, and I am on record as liking Ty as our qb. I have nothing but respect for Bo, and completely support the coaches decision, just like to ponder all the subjects, tough and easy.

Would love to see a slow march up the polls, and a quick drop in the polls for the afore mentioned programs. I would like to see the WSU replace the mistake on the lake, they actually won a decent game away from home. Also the beavs should get some respect, not sure how the hurricanes still have any.

Who is the BEST ASSISTANT Coach at Oregon Thus Far?
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
No question, Locklyn. The guy brings in 3* transfers and they seem to blend right in and are definitely additive to the program. I can only imagine when he brings in the #6 RB in the country next season. He does equally well with the guys on the team and his recruits. He recruits, develops, and inspires. The guy has elevated the expectations of what an assistant can and should do, does it in a low key way. He is like Dan Lanning junior. -
One word, REFRESHING! We have a grand master on the sideline, once again.
-
Agree and he is going to make some mistakes going forward. I would say without question this team has his back, and those mistakes will be covered by both sides of the ball. I hope he stays healthy and has the season he dreamed of when he moved, with is wife, to Oregon.

I would say, most importantly we learned that Bo Nix owns this team and that is invaluable. He came to Oregon to do exactly what he is doing, leading a team like he was suppose to when he came out of high school. He threw some beautiful balls, threw some out of bounds, and played Bo's game, and that is more than enough. He also ran like a LB, with a plan. He reminds me of AB with the ball, a force when he turns it up field, and doesn't instinctively slide. We also have some amazing talent at WR. The ball Franklin caught was a beautiful throw, but that throw was equaled by Troy going up, and securing it like a guy playing at the next level. Dorlus and DJ Johnson came out yesterday and couldn't be stopped. If the refs had called all the holding penalties the game might still be going on. These guys are the real deal and the D-line come out yesterday. Nobody should throw toward Gonzalez. The guy is a lock down corner, and hopefully we see improved play from the rest of the db's. The cougs are the real deal, wining on the road, and at home. They will be a HUGE test this weekend. We also learned Lanning has some gunslinger in him. Going for it on 4th was a hugely aggressive and confident move. Also putting Ty in early was aggressive and I saw no panic in Lanning. Lanning is a leading light for this team, and that light is a beautiful calming green and yellow hue everyone benefits from. Everyone on that team looks to Lanning and they benefit with everything he says and does. Kudos to Tosh, Locklyn and Dilly too. These coaches under Lanning are the real deal. We have coaches who can recruit, and they can also coach a game, and develop talent, love it! Lastly I love seeing the beavs playing good football. I hope they keep building and smash the dawgs the week before we destroy them. Which then leads into a massive three week period to end the Pac-12 season. I know I am getting ahead of myself, but that is easy to do with this amazing team we have. Go Ducks!

Absolutely love Dan Lanning, and what he is doing for these young men, and the fanbase! We are blessed, and hopefully Dazeduck is also benefiting from what Lanning is sending to the field and doing on the sideline. May the Duck energy be with you, and your recovery, be well! I also like hearing about Lanning wanting to better prepare the players for the 4th quarter. This guy is a maestro on the sideline, and it is nice to see that again!
-
I would focus on Dorlus and, my favorite, DJ JOHNSON and the games they had. If they keep playing like that the defense will come together and be the force we all want to see. The amount of holding on these guys was astounding too, they were unstoppable. I also saw some excellent play by Gonzalez. The defense is on the rise and hopefully will be rising up as we head to Pullman. Lannings defense is just beginning to define itself.

Michigan State, has beaten the Zips and the Western Michigan Broncos at home. We don't know how good the Spartans are. I would add BYU was missing some players, so the jury is still out on Oregon winning at home too. This weekend should be the biggest test through our bye week.
-
I would say the dawgs better be focused on the game the week before they come to Autzen. The beavs are the real deal too. The dawgs have one good win at home. They also play the cougs in Pullman, our next big challenge. Glad we have Colorado on our schedule, and it looks like ASU is the other doormat, but we have Arizona instead. Should be an interesting season ahead. Lanning and team passed this test, we still own Autzen. The next challenge win a big one on the road. The good news is the weather looks to be pretty sublime in Pullman this weekend, won't be a factor. I suppose we are all lucky we aren't playing App State, what a team. So far their games have been worth more than the price of admission, way more.

Completely unacceptable, and I hope the university makes it known this was unacceptable by banning anyone associated with this behavior. I would also encourage the university to put in place even better proactive efforts to squash these kind of acts. Signs which warn any signs or behavior exhibiting bias, bigotry or hate won't be tolerated. Maybe a sign witch asks the fans to always 'do the right thing,' one of the tenets of the LDS church would be appropriate. It is nice to see the reaction to this kind of behavior, now we need to see action to prevent it in the future. Great effort by the players on the field on both sides, too bad the crowd didn't let that shine without marring it with intolerance, and worse.

I found it interesting Mario had is qb run the ball to the outside for no gain, instead of having him try the sneak. Same old Mario, but this time with a qb who can't run as effectively, yet no change. This was all Mario, I wonder how long this OC will last?

Irving, Whittington Demonstrate Oregon’s Backfield Depth
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Coach Locklyn is the early leader for assistant coach of the year. He brings in a few 3* transfers who seem like they may not fit in with our recent focus on 4* and 5* players. Both of these guys are just the kind of RB's Oregon has built it's RB tradition on. Well done RB room and Coach Locklyn! I also loved seeing the aggressiveness of Lanning going for it on 4th down. I also applaud his willingness to put in Ty early with a big lead. Both of these moves show incredible faith in the players on the field and the sidelines. If your healthy and practicing hard you will see the field. Great culture building by the head coach. The other big show was Nix. He has command of the offense and really all the players on the field. We have a leader, and once again well done by the coaching staff bringing in somebody they knew would fit in and could lead this young group. That was a Dilly of a game! -

Better, but Pullman isn't often a fun place to play. Agree with what has been said for a while, Bo Nix commands the line of scrimmage, and seems to have command before and after. This is Bo's team, too bad Ty didn't show out better. I do think there is something about how Bo leads. I hope Ty can learn what Bo has before next year. Love seeing this team owning Autzen. Now we need to win a big one on the road. Well done Dan Lanning and the coaching staff. Dan seems to be everything we wanted, and is coming into his own as a coach. Love how calm he is on the sideline and his clock management, well done! -
With all due respect to Helfrich, his flameout at the end of his career would be a real hurdle to most programs. He would need to resurrect the reputation he had at the beginning because the bowl loss, then going 4-8 won't have programs writing big checks. There is no sign he wants to put it that kind of work. He is going to be viewed much like Frost, who also built a lot of his reputation at Oregon. Both turned their Oregon coaching opportunity into a head coaching job, and then fizzled after some success. Scott Frost might also build a very nice house with a big porch to sit on while checking his bank account, occasionally. I tend to think Frost might be a little more ambition, time will tell.

You should definitely take a look at the real great salt lake while on the west coast, if you haven't yet.

Agree, injury free fun game. Enjoy your visit, and may the players leave it on the field for all to enjoy!
