I don’t get why it’s stated as obvious fact in the article that Cam Ward was the best QB in the portal. Ward was honorable mention All-Pac-12 (along w Caleb Williams) last year, while DG was 1st team All-B12. Yes, the Pac-12 was stacked at QB, but it’s hardly a given that its 4th best QB is better than the B12’s best. The article barely mentions DGs accolades and stats.

I feel so bad for this kid. 💔

UGH, DeBoer at Bama is my worst nightmare.

DL didn’t attend AL and doesn’t have a dying mother in Tuscaloosa, so his decision _should_ be more logical than emotional. Bama finished ‘23 at #5 and OBD finished #6. Given the margin of error in these rankings, it is pure folly to think that the Bama team and HC job in ‘24 are far superior to UO’s. Moneywise, I assume that OBD would match any offer, so the only “reason” I can imagine to leave is ego. But winning the FIRST Natty for a blue blood (yes, OBD bleed blue) would satisfy the ego so much more than Saban’s sloppy seconds. All that being said, this isn’t my first rodeo, and I admit I absolutely engaged in all the “Willie/Mari-no-O-would-never-leave” “silly talk.” @CountryProf @Desert Duck mea culpa🤚

This is fantastic @Charles Fischer! We’ve had a lot of HCs who were “the smartest guy in the room.” None of them would have disrobed at practice in 30-degree weather. It’s the ultimate team gesture from a leader: “I will do ten times more than what I am asking you to do.” DL just says and does all the right things. 🏆

I am not an expert, and I have only watched MI play 3 games this year: PS, tOSU, and AL. What struck me about all of them was the opponents’ offensive ineptitude. Of course, you can say that’s bc MI’s defense is so disruptive, but it wasn’t like the offenses were making great plays and the D was making better plays. The D just played fundamental football and the Os did not. And yes, “fundamental football” is easier said than done, but I know that OBD and the Fuskies do play fundamental football.

My mom taught me long ago to never “cut off my nose to spite my face.” A win for UW is empirically better for OBD than a win by MI. Really, it’s a win-win. Fuskies win? OBD look like the 2nd best team in the country. Fuskies lose? We get to feel the schadenfreude.

I feel a great deal of admiration for the Beavs who stuck it out and played. Through no fault of their own, those players had their world yanked from under them, but they showed up. The coaches and administrators who perpetrated this injustice against their players deserve our scorn. The players deserve better.

And yet Mari-no-O STILL managed to land a higher ranked class than OBD. I just don’t get it.
