  1. Excluding Dan Lanning, is there any coach that would make you nervous if USC were to acquire them? Ones that would make me nervous: - Curt Cignetti - Kalen DeBoer (if Bama pushes him out) - Deion Sanders - Matt Rhule
  2. Number of possessions have averaged about the same for the Ducks over the past 5 years . . . ~10-11 possessions per game (excluding kneel-down scenarios at end of either half). Biggest difference this year is Ducks are scoring TDs on 40% of those possessions compared to close to 50% in 2022 and 2023.
  3. Loved your take here. Wanted to add the following comment for information’s sake: When I exclude the non-conference games from the data, the rushing YPG is still last place for the years shown, and the rushing yards per attempt is second worst. I find all the little data points (positive and negative) very interesting. I can see rushing YPG being down of they’re featuring DG, but the rushing YPA would indicate lagging efficiency in the run game.
  4. 2024 Offense Stats update! (Only includes regular season and Conference championship games; no Bowl games or CFP stats) Positives: - OL has improved drastically through 7 games. - Scored enough to beat tOSU . . . What a glorious game!! - Passing game/stats are green; lining up with some of the best years in Ducks' history. Negatives: - Offensive PPG and scoring efficiency metrics are down . . . like into Mari Cristbal territory. - Rushing YPG and rush yards per attempt are the lowest in the history shown below. But, Oregon is 7-0 and #1 in the country! "That's why we play the game" - GO DUCKS!!
  5. I have a new perspective from watching Josh Pate describe the difference between Rankings and Ratings Do the Ducks deserve to be ranked #1 . . . YES! Now, where would Oregon be in terms of a power rating (i.e., head to head on a neutral field, etc.)? . . . definitely Top 5, and I would put them Top 3. That is NOT an insult to the Ducks. They are with the big boys, and that's exactly where you want them to be. At Top-5 / Top-3, IMO, means on any given day you can beat any team in the country. For those interested in Josh Pate's explanation on rankings vs ratings, here's his tutorial:
  6. Josh Pate on USC mid-review of the Maryland vs. USC game: ”. . . by the way, you guys broke up the PAC-12 for this, huh?”
  7. Charles - Any worry about the Ducks’ offense? Correct me if I’m misquoting you, but I believe you have said, in the past, that to compete for / win the national championship a team needs to average 40+ ppg. I’m surprised that the Ducks have only scored 40+ against the Beavers.
  8. I think this is true. On the flip side, if Oregon had lost on a last second field goal, we'd all be using similar language to self-soothe.
  9. Agreed. It's similar to the annoying cliche "He never got his head turned around." Defensive PI has nothing to do with getting your head around, and everything to do with how much you are/are not physically impeding the receiver.
  10. We try to explain to them, but they won't listen to reason . . .
  11. At this point in the season, my vote goes to Jeanty. He just pops, and if you watch him, he has elite breakaway speed and a Jonathan Stewart-like ability to stay on his feet no matter what hits him. I understand the argument that he plays in a "lesser" league against "lesser" talent, but the other side of that coin is he is on one of those "lesser" teams, playing along side "lesser" talent, especially on the OL. Imagine Jeanty behind the Ducks' OL. No offense to Jordan James, but lightening doesn't strike quicker than I would switch out James for Jeanty.
  12. Amen! And I'd like to add, I'm suggesting the "locked in the room/pencil/paper" thing, not because I assume there should be grammar errors, but because I think Holden would do a better job and sound more sincere than the Admin team that wrote most, if not all, of that letter. I think it's a disservice to Holden not letting him do his own apology, both for his own personal growth, and also because I think all involved would be quick to move on and forgive if sincere. We all saw he was devastated in the tunnel; he felt the gravity of his mistake. But instead, the PR folks drafted an apology that sounds like it was penned by C-3PO. That's not fair to Holden.
  13. Great post! I feel the same, it was Klatt I was most surprised by, too. Yeah, Cowherd has been rubbing elbows with Lincoln Riley, so he's always promoting USC on his show . . . gross.
  14. Anything more egotistical than me commenting on my own quote? Apologies, but I want to clarify that this refers the the video of Smith's PI in which he obviously shoved--while extending his arms because that's what happens when you "shove" someone--the defender 5 yards down the field before cutting to the outside. I understand how Cowherd/JMac "might" reach their conclusion given how much "talent" tOSU has amassed; perhaps on a neutral field. BUT - I'm shocked at how little attention that the unrecognized interception at the beginning of the game is getting, and all the points Oregon left on the table. I don't care how close to the end of the game a certain call was, if you statistically analyze the correlation between turnover margin and wins/losses, winning the turnover margin is STRONGLY correlated to. In other words, Oregon not being allowed to take a possession from tOSU likely had a far more significant impact on the overall outcome/result than the offensive PI call that was only highlighted due to the timing and circumstances of when it occurred.
  15. I've not been impressed with some nationally recognized sports guys and their takes. Colin Cowherd / JMac: "I came away from that game thinking tOSU is the better team." Joel Klatt: On his show, he spent 5 minutes in a 25 minute segment congratulating Oregon, and then the next 20 minutes covering for tOSU. "These were the 3 tiny things on defense that they messed up on. They were the more efficient team on offense. Smith never extended his arms on that PI, and I don't agree with the call." I'm amazed (and worried about society in general) at how people arrive at conclusions that are the complete opposite of VISUAL VIDEO EVIDENCE. Call me a little let down that, on the day when I thought everyone would be talking about the Ducks and singing their praises, we get a bunch tOSU apologists.
  16. One more small rant after re-reading his apology letter. You can always tell when someone other than the offender is involved in writing it, because it brings in fans and "community". I don't think he owes the fans or the community anything. He didn't spit in my face, or the face of workers at the local grocery store. The only folks he inconvenienced was his team/coaches and the tOSU player he spat on. Just my additional $0.02 . . . which brings my total of two comments to my $0.04.
  17. This is classic: 1) "I'm not going to mention 'certain thing'." 2) Describe in excruciating detail the 'certain thing' you weren't going to mention. 3) Finish by saying, "But like I said, we're not going to talk about that 'certain thing'; it's behind us."
  18. Lots of thoughts as this story unfolds. He looked heartbroken in the tunnel but--for the love--could we get an apology letter/video that actually sounds like it's from the individual; that actually sounds sincere!!?? I'm tired of these sanitized PR department, perfect grammar, poor excuses for authenticity. They should sit him in a room ALONE with a pencil and paper, no electronics, and no PR/Editor/English major in his ear, and make him compose an apology letter and release that without any proof reading/editing. Re: the potential use of AI . . . I'll bet the person that wrote the article about the use of AI used AI to help him write his article.
  19. @Annie Finally found it!!
  20. Dan Lanning is the MAN!! I’m a grown man with wife and kids, and I can’t helped but get pumped with this.
  21. I can’t get the postgame interview with NBC right after the game out of my mind. Dan Lanning has the PERFECT temperament for all this. He was so amped and enthusiastic surrounded by all the fans that stormed the field. His love and passion for the game is undeniable and exudes from him!! And then, as the camera panned away, you could see Lanning, raised arm/fist, with the crowd surrounding him going wild. What an unforgettable scene!
  22. Bring home the BEEF!!
  23. Welcome to the “tOSU Hate Club”. Let it boil and fester! Let’s break it down: - Interception by Ducks that wasn’t counted lead to 7 points. - DG missed wide open Tez for easy 7 points; settled for field goal - Missed extra point and 2 point conversion By my count, Ducks could have arguably won by double digits. No bigger ref blunder than allowing tOSU to keep the ball on that interception. Go pound sand Ryan Day. The hatred just keeps mounting!!
  24. Sometimes things don’t make sense. tOSU appears to have monsters on their team, especially at the WR and DB positions. tOSU cornerback, Burke, is as big as Terrance Ferguson . . . But I don’t care that it doesn’t make sense. WE BEAT tOSU!!!!!!!!
