  1. In four quarters of football against Miami (OH)—from the all powerful Mid-American Conference—Mari Cristbal’s offense managed a point total that begins with 3 38 points . . . against Miami (OH). Here’s hoping the Hurricanes never figure it out on offense.
  2. What small lessons can we learn at the conclusion of the game against PSU? I say "small" lessons because I don't believe there will be any big or groundbreaking takeaways from this game; at least not positive ones. Let me clarify my above statement so it's not interpreted as negative. In any game where one team has a significant advantage (i.e., the Ducks against PSU), IMO, only small positives can be gleaned, whereas, on the flip side, big worries can arise. For example, if the Ducks win 63-0 with 5 sacks, my general conclusion will be "Good, that's what we should do, and with 5 sacks, that bodes well for more consistent pressure on QBs." Alternatively, if the Ducks get very little pressure on the PSU QB, then that would be a BIG worry. Not predicting any of the above, necessarily, but I am curious what things you're looking for in this game . . . big, small, positive, or negative?
  3. Looking good to start. I really like this look and wish they would do it for some of their more marquee matchups, rather than PSU.
  4. IMO - The worst case scenario . . . Apple emerges as potential landing spot for Pac-12 football NYPOST.COM Apple TV+ is emerging as a potential landing spot for the Pac-12 college football rights, The Post has learned.

  6. Apologies in advance, the video starts with some “we told you so” comments but what he discusses after about the CFP is important for Oregon to consider. I think Oregon needs to get out of the P12 ASAP in light of a renegotiation of the CFP in a couple years. Your thoughts?
  7. How about Boise State? I'm not suggesting that they should be #1 priority, nor do I think they should be added at the exclusion of the schools that have consistently surfaced (i.e., SMU, SDSU, etc.). But, I think any expansion should involve BSU. Reasons For: - BSU is located comfortably within the P12 footprint. - BRAND. IMO, BSU has a bigger national brand than any other expansion candidate mentioned so far. BSU is similar to Oregon (*NOT at the same level) in that their brand and reputation EXCEEDS their regional market size/population. Over the past 20 years, BSU has become synonymous with being David slaying Goliath(s) year in and year out, both at the start of seasons in non-conference games, and at the end in bowl games. To this day, there is not a better game (at least finish) than the BSU vs. Oklahoma 2008 Fiesta Bowl (link to highlights included below): A wild trick play (hook and lateral) to force overtime, high pressure regulation and OT possessions (including 2-pt conversions), and going for the win in OT rather than a PAT to tie using the Statue of Liberty trick play. One last thought. If I was told that there were only three games on any given Saturday, and each featured one of the following teams: SDSU, SMU, or BSU, I'd bet most would tune into BSU, at least I would for sure. - Built-in rivalry. If Oregon is the flagship of the P12, then best to have rivalries starting at the top. Oregon and BSU have had bad blood dating back 20+ years ("The Punch"). - Boise is growing rapidly. You'll find it near or at the top of lists of fastest growing US cities by population. - I've been around Idaho, and the state team is BSU. There is no other competition. - Iconic blue field. Personally, I can't stand it, BUT, it's unique and one of a kind that helps the program stand out. . . maybe this should have been included with the "BRAND" discussion above. On second thought, after listing my "reasons for" including Boise State, I would rather have Boise State as #1 priority. When I eliminate the market size, population, census data, etc. factors, IMO, they are just the right FIT . . . from a purely football perspective. Fiesta Bowl Highlights:
  8. There seem to be a lot of members on the OBD Forum that are excited about "streaming" being part of the new P12 media deal. I must be missing something. I don't share that excitement . . . YET, nor do I understand this view. NOT because I disagree, but because I literally don't understand. With that preface, I hope the comments/questions to follow are NOT viewed as trolling/negative but, instead, as my attempt to better understand other viewpoints and to clarify statements/ideas that appear conflicting to me. I'm very open to changing my mind because I want to be as optimistic and excited as many of you seem to be. Discussion / Questions: Since 2015, I have exclusively watched Oregon Duck football games (and ALL other college football games) via streaming using some combination of Roku/Apple TV and Sling/YouTube TV. ??? What is the excitement about streaming being part of the deal if nearly all the games I've watched since 2015 have been streamed? ??? Is the idea/hope that a portion of the games will be on some platform other than cable/TV? How will that benefit exposure, viewership, etc.? Some have stated that it will be good to lead into streaming while other conferences play "catch up". ??? How will the P12 "lead" the nation into streaming if the likes of Troy and Appalachian State (Sun Belt Conference) have been streaming on ESPN+ for years? ??? Do teams/conferences that have been streaming on ESPN+ for years now have a distinct advantage that the P12 will have to play catch up to? ??? If not, then what "catch up" will the SEC / B1G play once they decide to go "streaming"? ??? Why is USC worthy of mockery (silly question as USC should ALWAYS be mocked) for having a big game streamed on Peacock (~22M subscribers), but the P12 is revolutionary and visionary for potentially having a similar scenario play out with, say, Apple TV+ (latest estimates in 2022 for paid subscribers ~25M)? ??? Why did the two most powerful conferences in the SEC/B1G, and the two most powerful sports networks in ESPN/Fox sprint into each others' arms to make these massive media deals if streaming was the way of the future . . . even though I've literally streamed every B1G/SEC game since 2015? ??? Doesn't streaming seem more like a "substitute" way of consuming sports, rather than a "new, revolutionary" way that will somehow make the P12 bigger and more powerful than the B1G and SEC could ever dream? Statements have been made about how a streaming option will vastly increase exposure to the P12. ??? Isn't the only real way to increase "exposure" to partner with Amazon (~200M subscribers)? ??? If the streaming portion of the new media deal is with anyone other than Amazon (i.e., Apple TV, Peacock, ESPN+), how does that increase exposure? ??? Even then, does "exposure" = "viewership"? - NFL Thursday Night Football's first year on Amazon saw a ~43% decrease in average viewership compared to 2021 on FOX; Amazon had to pay advertisers to keep them around after poor ratings. Well that's all I've got. These are sincere questions/concerns . . . All which may be moot once a deal is actually agreed to. Would love to hear your feedback.
  9. Ha! If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts . . . I was in no way insinuating that Dante Moore/UCLA is going to be better, or more successful, than Bo Nix/Oregon in 2023. I'm interested in the long game, as well. Simply saying he looks like he could be real good, and would have loved to have him in the Oregon Duck fold.
  10. Great collection of highlights! A nice reprieve from the stressful P12 media contract negotiation speculation: Oregon Duck Fireworks: The best highlights in the 21st century DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM What better way to celebrate the 4th of July than with an Oregon Ducks firework show?
  11. "Ucla trying to get out of the PAC12" No idea what it's referring to, but I just kept laughing harder and harder:
  12. Fun Company to follow for very interesting analytics about college football:
  13. I am really enjoying this guy's take on all things college football. It also helps that he's pretty high on Dan Lanning and the Ducks in this entire video.
  14. Thought this was a reasonable and optimistic take on the state of the Oregon program:
  15. I know we're exhausted with the media rights deal, but as a BYU alumni, I found this article interesting (including links to other articles). For your reading pleasure . . . or just ignore it Experts say Pac-12 really could have used BYU when it comes to media rights negotiations WWW.DESERET.COM The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel, Forbes’ Jim Williams sound off on value of BYU in media rights negotiations. Did Pac-12 make mistake not considering it for expansion years ago?
  16. There's so many, but this one stands out to me. The game against Tennessee (the "big tough SEC") got the 2010 Ducks rolling on their way to the National Championship Game.
  17. I've made the data more dynamic so I can show results with potential outlier conditions removed. **Let me know if you'd like to see other specifics (e.g., performance against P12 opponents only).** I'm considering adding criteria that would show how the offense performed against opponents that finished the year with a winning record or ranked to get a sense of performance against quality teams. Let me know if that is of interest . . . or overwhelmingly boring. I'll make one comment about Kenny Dillingham's 2022 offense . . . The efficiency (OTD% and Points per Possession) is mind-boggling. With full unadjusted data, the 2022 offense was 2nd in efficiency behind the 2014 CFP Ducks team. In the adjusted version shown at the bottom, KD's 2022 offense is 1st in efficiency (and look at Willie Taggart PPG when Herbert was healthy/playing). First - Full Year Unadjusted Data Second - Full Year Adjusted Data - 2022 - Removed the "unfair" GA game, primary game Nix was injured (vs Utah), and Bowl game in which KD did not call plays - 2017 - Removed the 5 games Herbert was injured, and the Bowl game Herbert did not play in - 2007 - Removed the 4 games Dixon was injured
  18. ION TV is on YouTube TV . . . so I'd be happy with this.
  19. I've gone back and forth about where I want the Ducks to end up: P-12 or B1G, or elsewhere (ACC / B12). Timeline of my Preferences: - When the B1G swiped USC and UCLA, I was envious and wanted the Ducks involved, too. - When the expanded playoff was announced I wanted the P-10 to stay together . . . under the assumption a reasonable media rights deal would eventually happen. - Now that the P-12's last hope appears to be streaming-only games on Apple TV+, I want the Ducks to bolt; to the B1G or SEC. Either one, I don't care. I honestly might prefer the Ducks be in the B12 if they somehow got the 4-corner teams as well. After all the back and forth, rumors, highs and lows, hopes and failures; still some hope? . . . With slumped shoulders I've concluded: ** I want the Ducks to be in a Conference with a geographic footprint where there's a much higher percentage of people that love college football; football in general. ** This isn't meant to be an insult to fans on the West Coast . . . I live here. I don't believe a passionate fan from the South is any more/less passionate than a passionate fan from the West Coast. BUT, I do believe there's a much higher percentage of passionate fans in the South / Mid-West relative to the regional population there than in WA/OR/CA. Some viewership data that bares this out: - Alabama v. Arkansas / Combined State Population: ~8M / Game Viewership: 5.83M - tOSU v. Maryland / Combined State Population: ~18M / Game Viewership: 6.60M - Alabama v. Ole Miss / Combined State Population: ~8M / Game Viewership: 8.71M - Florida v. Florida St. / State Population: ~22M / Game Viewership: 6.71M / **In-state rivalry; Nothing to play for (i.e., Conf. Champ. or CFP); No nationally relevant player - USC v. UCLA / State Population: ~39M / Game Viewership: 4.53M / **In-state rivalry; Conf. Champ. & CFP hopes; Leading Heisman candidate - USC v. Utah / Combined State Population: ~42M / Game Viewership: 5.97M / **P12 Champ; CFP if USC wins; Leading Heisman candidate; Wild reg.-season game When I think of college football, my mind immediately goes to the South (SEC), then to the Mid-West (B1G), and then to our wonderful pocket of college towns here in the PNW. I do NOT think of Silicon Valley (i.e., Apple TV+) To put a bow on this, I'll say it one more time: I want the Ducks to be in a Conference, in a geography where a higher percentage of people LOVE the game of football.
