  1. There have been some darn good RB coaches in the recent past, but something just seemed to be missing ever since the departure of Gary Campbell. Like GC, Locklyn appears to provide his boys with a father-figure as well as being their coach, and also like Gary, just another no name who just does it.
  2. In addition to losing the edge of being underdogs, the Utes will also have to deal with the missing emotional commitment that grew out of playing for fallen comrades. To my mind, Whittingham is the type of coach who understands the best way to deal with such situations is to play through them, which is the right and only way.
  3. Indeed, a race to the bottom. Sigh. When SCOTUS made the decision to side with just the ‘athlete’’ part of the ‘student-athlete’ equation, they put us all on a road that will just have to run it’s course. Like Winston Churchill once said, “If you are going through hell, keep going.”
  4. In addition to that, I think the football and track & field departments have barely scratched the surface at how to take advantage of this new facility as a mutual recruiting tool.
  5. If there is any true resemblance between a sports program and the nature of it’s mascot, then watching how ducks always stick together in order to accomplish their goal - of getting to where they want to get - is echoed in Oregon’s team-oriented drive to excellence. Go Ducks!
  6. Agree with HD. It’s the same as worrying too much about how much you get payed. Do the job better than anyone else and the money will follow. Be a contender and they can’t deny you.
  7. Hey, that’s when Phoenix is livable! Just kidding
  8. If a major part of Riley’s success at Oklahoma was the strength of it’s bedrock culture which Venables all but says he road into the ground, then it’s going to be interesting to watch how he deals with a culture that in recent years has been dominate through the first 5 minutes of the 1st quarter. Sooner or later, Riley may have to pay the piper.
  9. Thanks Drake for a great look back. Love the go-for-broke energy of those over achievers who laid the ground work for what was (and still is) to come!
  10. Added thought — the beauty of green and yellow is that both colors seem to lend themselves to a variety of hues that red and blue don’t. We’re very fortunate in that way.
  11. Don’t necessarily see this as an ‘either or’ thing. While I basically side with Charles on this, I don’t see why wardrobe couldn’t pull the Darth Vader uni out of the closet on a very limited basis — once a year, once every two years? Gives it a better focus that way.
  12. Had to have been one of the Husky qbs preparing himself for the coming season.
  13. UCLA unis traditionally were always given high national recognition because they were ‘aesthetically’ pleasing. Meh.
  14. Looks like they are listed at # 9.
  15. What can you say? Guess it’s worth whatever puts the git in your gritty-up.
  16. Football IQ is being smart enough to know you need as much live playing time as you can possibly get in order to develop football IQ.
  17. The formula is simple and remains the same: you want people - players and coaches - who really want to be here.
  18. Such a move, if implemented, should help remove the ‘impulse’ generated portal moves that keep players and coaches alike in a state of ‘what next?’ chaos. Making young minds discipline themselves to a schedule is part of what education and growing-up is all about.
  19. Hey, as the hydrant wetters like to boast, Husky Stadium is ‘the most beautiful location in the nation for football’. Couldn’t agree more: it serene, quiet and empty - kinda like a retirement home.
  20. Excellent points PD. The sum of all these insightful views would seem to point towards the need to create an athletic department exploratory committee whose goal would be to help determine athletes’ needs regarding the cause and effect of leaving early, leading towards the possible creation of an official counseling service (attached to the Jaqua Center?) that would enlighten this life-changing decision process. Yet again, Oregon’s unique capacity for innovation could be a great help to athletes.
  21. Okay, know it’s only a top 10, but here’s 11. Keep getting thrown out at 1st while trying to use the field ump as a scratching post.
  22. Both Joe Walsh and Lincoln Riley. Life is hard on those LA freeways - in the back of a limo.
