  1. This is a harbinger of just how good Ty Thompson is right now.........and is going to be after a few seasons. You don't sky rocket up the rankings the way he did unless you are showing some elite skill sets coupled with size and ability to scramble and make big plays. Here is my prediction: sans injury Ty Thompson, an incredible trio of WR's and a stout defense anchored by some incredible LB play take Oregon back to the playoffs in the 22 and/or 23 seasons. Going to have to be patient for one more season though.......which won't be easy I am afraid.
  2. I sure hope so. If it wasn't for bad luck they wouldn't have any luck at all. Seldom do we see a team have this many misfortunes in a single season. If these guys could get a fair shot, and with Dante looking like he was, I think they could make a run.
  3. If this were a Duck it would be a better analogy.....but this is the best I could find.
  4. Might of just got knocked out of the tournament here tonight. That was bad......really no other way to put it. Hopefully they can win out or only lose one more game and they could still go dancing without having to win the Pac12 tournament. Again...there are really only two words to describe this seasons team = snake bitten
  5. Yikes.....afraid not. They look like a rusty old gate blowing in the wind. Playing against arguably the worst team in the Pac12 at home and they are getting beat by 5 at the break. Sure hope they come out hot or they are going to lose their second home game in a row.....not even sure that has happened since Matt Court opened. Ducks are just reeling this year from injuries and COVID. A totally snake bitten team at this point. Bummer to see.
  6. Cash money..... This is simply about the cash as FIC pointed out with the cold hard data. I agree with others that there are other metrics that are as, if not more important than salary.
  7. Isaac Townsend's short ride as a Duck perplexed me. I could of swore I heard or read that Cristobal and Avalos were high on him and then during the season this year he was no where to be found. Almost wonder if there was some sort of personality conflict or something that happened.
  8. Losing Dante was a huge blow to this team for the exact reasons mentioned in the article. Hopefully Kepnang can get the minutes he needs to get up to speed and fill the same role. We also need Lawson to step up and play as big as he can. The Beavers game wasn't really anything to be concerned about as we were missing arguably our two best players and hadn't run in over a week and probably even longer. I agree that, with a starting lineup of Richardson, Duarte, Kepnang or Lawson, Omoruyi and Williams Jr. and time/games for them to develop chemistry, we should be looking pretty good by the time the Pac12 tournament roles around. With Figueroa, Terry and lesser so Hardy coming off the bench to provide a spark. Between now and then I do believe we will see several more losses so we may require winning the tournament to get into the big dance this year.
  9. Future is looking real bright if even half of these guys pan out the way scouts think they will. I have been looking back at our recruiting since about 2015 and find it interesting that many of what we thought were big gets just didn't pan out and many transferred or had personal issues that kept them from seeing much of the field. I find it interesting that low end 3* guys like Travis Dye, Brandon Dorlus, Jordon Scott, Johnny Johnson, Verone Mckinley and several other low 3* recruits have seen a lot of field time during games the past few seasons. Not sure what this means in the grand scheme of things but I continue to have some concern about development of what appears to be high level talent coming out of high school.
  10. I would love to, but I am having a house built now and am hurting for available time as I am constantly dealing with it. Periodically I will try to contribute more and am really looking forward to baseball season. Charles, your info on local Duck players is very encouraging. I would love to see an offensive explosion this season and it's looking like they will have the bats to do it.
  11. Huge baseball fan here. In fact it's my favorite sport. I played a couple years at Lane Community College before being cut by the Beavers after transferring up to Corvallis. Ducks baseball has been really inconsistent over the past several years. They were looking good early on in their first few years but they have never been able to put together a solid offensive effort for a sustained period of time. Their pitching has often been pretty decent though. Yovan offers a good dose of both. He is one of the best players the Ducks have put forward since their return to the diamond. Question is whether there are other pitchers who can lock down opposing teams. I was high on Peyton Fuller coming out of high school, maybe that is because he was my neighbor in Ashland, but he is a big kid with a pretty strong arm. I am hoping he steps up big time this coming season. I am always up for talking baseball. I look forward to more articles in the future.
  12. Sorry to hear this as he was kind of a heart and soul guy for the Ducks for the past three years. He was a huge recruiter too. Personally I don't think Cristobal gave him enough touches but it's tough with so many guys chomping at the bit. On paper it looks like we have all these great running backs but on the field I haven't seen much as our run game continues to decrease in efficiency and output.
  13. With USC nipping at our heels in recruiting and flipping some of our best recruits to them I would think that this is the area where we measure whether we made it or broke it. If USC overtakes us, which is a strong possibility right now, then I would say..........this season broke the Ducks.
  14. His specs definitely meet the criteria I think we need = 6'+ 220 lbs. + (right now he is only 205 lbs. but my guess is he can bulk up at least 15 lbs.). We need this guy bad, so that by the 2022 or possibly 2023 season we may have an unbeatable run game again.
  15. Excellent breakdown of historical stats that underscore what all of our eyes have told us for the past several seasons. Two things have to happen immediately to solve this problem. 1. Hire a new running back coach similar in philosophy and style to Gary Campbell.......if possible. 2. Put more emphasis into recruiting running backs with specs that are 6'+ and 220 lbs.+ and 4.6-ish or below 40 times. Think Najee Harris type of bodies/speed. There are plenty of guys out there like this. Many end up going to small time schools and racking up a zillion yards and going onto illustrious careers in the NFL. So it seems our recruiting staff could do a better job of finding some diamond in the rough recruits like this.
  16. I think the lack of a suitable running attack since Coach Campbell left has been one of the main X factors explaining what appears to be the end of a sustained period of offensive dominance in college football by Oregon (it actually probably ended 3-4 years ago unfortunately and I just kept hoping it would return but it no longer looks likely). So the simple answer is yes, we definitely need a new running backs coach. I think Charles said it best above.......that decision should of been made two years ago because the product we have seen on the field for the last several years has not been up to previous standards.
  17. I could support going to 8 conference games but I could also support dropping one out of conference game in the beginning of the season. I know the argument is that they help prepare but I think two preparatory games against underdog teams is plenty. The 8 team playoff outlined by Boles above is the ticket. Hopefully it happens soon because there is no doubt that interest is fading in the current CFP paradigm. I didn't watch an entire CFP game start to finish this season. The four teams in were literally my all time most hated college football programs going back at least a few decades. Oh how I hate Ohio State........and I found myself rooting for them.
  18. Excellent to see. I am not a huge hockey fan, but I am a huge Ducks fan so I will definitely be rooting for these guys. What a great story.
  19. I hear you on being excessive with it in the game last night. I think he could definitely tone it down. I am biased about Walton though because culturally there aren't a lot of folks in sports commentary I can relate with and he is one of them.
  20. Like I said in yesterdays game thread. Tough to have a consistently competitive effort when: 1. You only score 38 points in 10 second half quarters during your last 5 games. Two of those games you score zero points in the second half. 2. You have a -10 turnover ratio and turn the ball over 17 times in only 7 games. Not sure how much you can put the turnovers on the coaches, though discombobulation was part of that equation. The lack of scoring in the second half to me points to poor adjustments and scheming.
  21. I am an old school dead head I guess so I don't mind Walton's trips down memory lane. He brings something different to the commentator position. I do agree it's not often on topic but with my background as an Oregon kid growing up in the sticks with hippy parents it suits me just fine.
  22. I had a feeling the mens bball team would help take the sting off that football game today...........and they came through. They dominated Stanford when it counted in the last 10 minutes of the ball game.
  23. Here are some numbers to ponder for this season: 1. We lost the turnover margin 17-7 for a -10 turnover ratio. 17 turnovers (11 fumbles lost and 6 interceptions) in 7 games.....wow!! I don't believe we have seen that poor of numbers in a few decades. 2. A measly 38 points scored in 10 quarters of football during the second half of the past five games including the UCLA game. Including getting doughnuts in 4 of those second half quarters (this game and against California). That is not good. Does this indicate poor coaching i.e. being unable to adjust at halftime while the other team makes big adjustments on your scheme? Is this the result of losing at the game of chess on the football field? 3. Two games in a row with the other team easily capitalizing on onside kicks or whatever that was ISU did today. That is very poor special teams coaching. How often have you seen a team fall victim to that in back to back games?
  24. Shoot, there was the Shough we have come to know. Throw it right to the other team at least once a game. Hopefully the Bball teams plays better here in a few hours or it will be a tough start to 2021 for the Oregon Ducks. Take care folks.
  25. Wow...........can you say snake bitten. This is ugly..........4 fumbles in the last 5 possessions I believe. Lights out.
