Official Spring Game Thread!
I was there today. Announced attendance of 42K. My take: QB: Nix was clear No.1 but had a couple poor decisions. Impressed with Butterfields arm. Wanted so badly for Ty to take the job, May have been third best . Maybe now we do know why AB started after all. Made me wonder if Ty’s late pick might just be his last game pass thrown as a Duck. To be fair, QBs not allowed to run. That part hard to evaluate. WRs: 3 words- Ducks Are Loaded. The sophomores all got great separation and long ball PROWESS, Hutson looked ok after the injury. Cota catches everything, already saw QBs use him as security blanket, should be clutch on third down. Special note: Seven McGee might be Tyreek Hill. I thought he was MVP even on non catches due to “touch sacks” RBs looked good. Hard to evaluate Defense given schemes and rules but VERY ball hawkish. Tempo: speed is back . Offense is going to get playmakers in space. This will be way more Chip than MC. Overall: lots to work on but that is expected given it is April. DEPTH is apparent. Offense will score a lot. Defense: will make plays. Cannot eval PROWESS based on scheme and many starters who hardly played. outlook: Will compete for Pac12 title.

Another Oregon Kid as a Preferred Walk-On Joins the Ducks
And another one. I love that the Duck WOs are 3 stars. Many of our peers would be happy to sign that many 3s on scholarship. haha.

Pac-12 football Recruiting: Top 15 Commitments in 2022 Recruiting Class; Josh Conerly Jr. to Oregon
I can’t stop re-reading this quote about Iuli from that article. Everything about it. ”After initially committing to Washington, the nation’s No. 10 interior lineman flipped to Oregon following Washington’s surprise loss to Montana in September.”

Coach K’s Final Karma for Unethical Behavior Ends Career
Also agree on NC, but I will agree to disagree on Coach K as GOAT. He also cheated to get there. He is no more the GOAT than how the baseball Hall of Fame looks at Barry Bonds’ accomplishments as cheating. Corey Maggette on Natty runner up team getting paid back in the 1990s, Chris Duhon’s mom (from 2001 Title team) getting paid, Grant Hill’s car,, Lance Thomas from the 2010 title team with the $100K jewelry payment, Zion Williamson benes, it goes on and on. Was a Duke system and who was at the helm the whole time… A few years ago, CBS Sports did a survey of 100 coaches to respond anonymously on who is best at getting away with breaking the rules. Calipari was #1, followed not far behind by Coach K.

Coach K’s Final Karma for Unethical Behavior Ends Career
How perfect that karma ends Coach K’s career with his two most important last games ending in devastating losses to his hated nearby rival. NC beats him in his last home game and in his last ever game when Duke actually led late. Perfect lasting memories that will never go away, that he deserves. I lost all respect for him when he meddled with Dillon Brooks, disrespected Altman and tried to hide it after the Ducks crushed Duke in the 2016 Big Dance. It certainly impacted Dillon and the Ducks in coming out flat in a loss the next round during Elite 8. And how Karma showed its face several times. Coach K’s wife leaves her seat with Duke slightly ahead late to go be near the bench only to see NC go on a run with Duke choking free throws. Reminded me of the Falcons owner leaving his seat early to be on the field in the Super Bowl before the Patriots came from behind. Karma, thank you. You are awesome.

Herbert Gets ANOTHER Great Receiver
Love to see any help headed to Chargers. If anything, Gerald is consistent, which is the good and bad here as you know what you are getting. Consistent 3 catches and 30 yards per game. 1 TD every 7 games. I would not call that game changing. I am not clear on his blocking ability, but given Pete Carroll got rid of him after one year suggests the answer. Pete loves his TEs.

Can Oregon Survive NIL?
If Dan thought Nico was the next Heisman, and Phil agreed, doesn’t besting $8M seem easily in Phil’s wheelhouse? Maybe Phil does not want to pony up as much as people are assuming despite his desires for a Natty, his age, and his billions.

Ducks Beat Utah State 83-72!
I thought the keys were Harmon’s 14 in first half to keep things in reach, then Young’s drives in second half…Aggies had no answer to that.

For what it’s worth… An acquaintance runs an odds and scoring simulation service that is reliable. They have Will playing. But Ducks still losing and Utah St covering.

Smoke and mirrors. Draft deception. No chance he makes it that far down to the Seahawks.

Wright Still Finds Stanford Loss Wrong
In related news, his 4.57 time in the 40 at combine was slower than Georgia’s punter. Wright had said he aimed to run in low 4.4s. Leaving early to draft may have been a mistake.

How Chase Cota will Help the Ducks
I don’t mind the idea of the veteran presence, and appreciate the legacy despite some perhaps regrettable goings on during his high school recruitment. I do take issue with the article taking this as a given: “he can help open up the offense and draw defenders to him, it will give the other players more room to work”. Seems like a reach. 883 yards and 6 TDs in 4 years isn’t scaring any DC or CB. 2021 only had 18 catches for 286 yards and 1 TD.
