Oregon Will Not Pay Top-NIL for QBs: Should They?
EastBayDuckDad replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Right now the hype and NIL paydays seem to be going to the 5* QBs who maybe are more important to the college game than other positions. But what does every 4* and 5* kid really want? To get a hug from Roger Goodell on the big stage day one of the draft and put that franchise hat on. That now means elite edge players, OTs and CBs as much as QBs. NIL money pales in comparison at that level. DL and Georgia put a ton of defensive players in this year's 1st round and won a NT with a decidedly 2-3* QB, who while an absolute gamer, will likely never sniff the NFL. My point is that blowing the NIL bank on a 5* QB right out of high school doesn't necessarily pencil. Defense still wins championships and spreading NIL around may be a better approach. The QB transfer portal has paid dividends (Burrow at LSU) when other talent is there to complete the puzzle. It strikes me that Oregon under DL and the current leadership is doing just that. -

Did You Hear the Latest? Mr. FishDuck is STALIN!
EastBayDuckDad replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Amen to these responses. Posters on OBD Forum are insightful, informed and occasionally very funny. We are all passionate Duck fans but try to keep our pie-in-the-sky impuses under control. We may show apoplectic, rabidly hydrophobic and irrational hatred of everything Fusky, but I say, why not? Stalin did make the trains run on time. Usually to the western front, the gulag and the Molotov cocktail factory. And he coined the quintessential phrase about communism, "You pretend to work, we pretend to pay you." Charles, you are not Stalin. Or Marx. Or Lenin. Or Groucho, Harpo, Chico, Zeppo, Gummo, John, Paul, George and Ringo. You run a good website. Go Ducks! -
My uncle served in the Army in WWII. My dad was a quartermaster in the Navy at Huntington Beach. He wanted to be on a carrier but had TB as a child and got stuck portside for the war. He was a damn good quartermaster. I remember going fishing in Tomales Bay as a boy with Dad and his best friend, who lost a leg at Guadalcanal. No one ever pissed and moaned about their sacrifice. They did it because they believed it was their duty. I was fortunate to have them as my role models and I am here because of the grit and the sacrifice those men were willing to make in the cause of freedom. I never forget that.

Quincy Guerrier announces his withdrawal from the NBA Draft, return to Oregon 247SPORTS.COM Dana Altman and the Oregon Duck men's basketball program got some good news Friday... This is pretty good news for MBB. Perhaps even more than Richardson's potential return if his NBA evaluation is not as high as desired.

Quote From Our New Commit--Exciting
EastBayDuckDad replied to FamilyofDucks's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Helf may have let Tua slip thru the fingers, but consider if he had come here. There isn't a snowball's chance he would have led the 2017 Ducks to a NC and I don't think he would have been an improvement over JH given the system MC installed. Instead either Tua or Herbie would have ridden the pine. So who would Oregon fans have been happier with in the long run? And which quarterback are we proud following in the NFL as the hometown boy? -
Kenjon Barner: 300 Yards 5 TDs vs USC
EastBayDuckDad replied to Smith72's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I watched that game in an Irish sports bar in Jerusalem with a small group of fellow pilgrims from Eugene. Started at 1am local time and they had to kick us out at 4am, just as the 4th qtr was starting. Missed all but the last few minutes of the 4th when we got back to the hotel and wifi, but what a great ending and game it was. Against USC. Be still my beating heart. A copy of it has never left my DVR. KB was such a joy to watch. Great competitor and person, to boot. Patiently waited his turn behind LaMike. He has had a better pro career and three Super Bowl rings as well. Thanks for posting that, Smith72 -
"The Most Incredible Ending to a Football Game!"
EastBayDuckDad replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks for the stroll down memory lane. Add to that the subsequent 2012 Greastest Show on Turf scorefest at the LA Coloseum against USC where Kenyon Barner rushed for 320+ yards and the 2015 Rose Bowl and inaugural CFP semi where Oregon throttled FSU, complete with a Famous Jameis crab leg fumble and TD return. images.mp4 -
PP has become an integral piece off the bench for the Celtics. Makes plays away from the ball and sets up his teammates. That stolen offensive rebound with the laser dish to Smart in the corner for the follow up trey was a hustling thing of beauty. His defense alters shots of bigger players. Fearless on the three point line and beyond. If Boston plays the rest of the way thru the Eastern semis like they did last night, we'll get to see Prichard match up with Curry in the Finals. Not bad for a second year in the NBA.

PP yelling "That's what I do!" after the dagger trey to help seal game and series over the Bucks. Just like his love message to the UW crowd a couple years back...

He did most of his damage in the 4th quarter, when the game was not quite out of reach for the Bucks. He certainly helped put the dagger in, Getting his 3 point mojo back

Ducks are Always Best. But Who are Pac-12's Worst?

I understand that Shaw is going back to a run heavy offense where both guards pull in the opposite direction but negate each other in a burst of quantum entanglement. -

Brooks Suspended for One Game for Flagrant 2 Foul
EastBayDuckDad replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Looked at the replay several times and it was definately a F-2 foul, but the real damage was done not by the head smack but by Payton getting his legs caught up in Brooks' legs and him falling sideways with his left arm extended. I think it was a very hard foul that warranted the F-2 and ejection because of the head contact but it looks to me that the fall resulting in the injury was not intentional and maybe shouldn't warrant an extended suspension. -
Gotta respect KT shooting straight on this. Explains the sound of a deflating balloon coming from both Utah games and finally the Alamo Bowl. Amazing the rebuild that Lanning has done thus far.

Probable Men's Hoops Transfer?
EastBayDuckDad replied to EastBayDuckDad's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Agreed that his numbers don't pop out at you but DA and his new assistant coach must see something there. The article remarked on his improved output late in the year. He is a bigger guard at 6'4" 211# and on tape is pretty physical without getting into foul trouble very often. And comparing a guard's FG% to overall team % is a bit apples to oranges as post players will bring the overall number up above that when compared only to the backcourt. -
I know this is only a prediction, but it seems to have some gravitas to it. Would be a good get for DA to fill in the last needed piece in the backcourt. Prediction: South Carolina's leading scorer Jermaine Couisnard to choose Oregon Ducks - Scorebook Live NEWS.SCOREBOOKLIVE.COM South Carolina junior Jermaine Couisnard is nearing a decision. Oregon’s Explosive Offense Has Officially Returned
EastBayDuckDad replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
How many long, slow, run-oriented pistol whipped drives have we seen suffer an ignominious demise in or close to the red zone because of penalties over the last couple of years? I agree that while an occasional pick will hurt us and some are in essence long punts, a more explosion oriented offense will on balance win more games and save us from death by a thousand false starts.
