Granted we lost a couple games to our rivals and that caused most of us to scream at the television several times, especially me.

You are definitely not alone. Good thing my TV is deaf. 🙉

Not necessarily true.  Math whiz Nate Silver revolutionized baseball scouting using algorithms.

These findings are always based upon initial conditions and are by nature probabilistic. When the initial conditions aren’t matched, then you are guessing. Game time decisions are especially fraught given the ever changing circumstances. Lot harder than the relatively static art of scouting.

  3. One of those rare topics that I agree with every post, pro and con because this topic is about our emotions, not "rationality." I’ve been an Oregon fan for a long time, from before they became a football powerhouse. For me the Washington loss was painful but the Oregon State game was excruciating. Not who we lost to but how. I knew we were in trouble when we got up by a nearly insurmountable lead (ESPN win percentage was over 99%) and some Oregon players started yapping at the OSU players thinking the game was over and stopped putting out the effort needed to win in football.

This game showed Oregon’s continuing weakness of arrogance and entitlement and what happens when that meets toughness, skill,  and perseverance. Kudos to Smith and his team which has taken on his mental toughness and savvy.

I’m in the "I’m not going to watch category," having seen "us" go from playoffs, to conference championship, to meaningless bowl game. I’ve seen this too often and don’t need to see it again. This is an emotional decision, not a "rational" decision (which largely doesn’t exist, thank goodness, since in human behavior short term "rational" behavior is often the realm of the sociopaths). Enjoy the game, those who wish to watch. I’m going to spend that time getting my continuing education credits for the year, a manifestly rational use of my time 😊

I am gonna go hide for awhile...not gonna read the news about the game, don't wanna hear that it's still been a good season.  The heart is running the show right now and it's not very happy.

Amen. Heart wrenching loss. First time I’ve really doubted our coaches.

  5. I had the pleasure of playing 8-man high school football in Montana for a small town called Arlee nearly 50 years ago. That football isn’t nearly as sophisticated and as physical as today’s football (I was the starting center at 150#, 😂) but it was a great experience. One of the aspects of Lanning’s coaching that I admire is that he makes playing Oregon fun for the players, recreating the joys for his players I experienced when I played.

  6. The name change is a done deal, whether you think it was a good idea or not, I respect either view (as long as you don’t troll those who disagree with you with terms like "woke"). What we all can agree on is that we should have had a new name by now and the administrations of both the Ducks and Beavs have been kicking the can down the road to avoid controversy. That is a failed strategy.
