Will Oregon’s Offense Instantly Improve Under Dillingham?
Wrathis replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I may be completely off here, but it was my thought that Herbert ran himself during the Rose Bowl bc he wasn't going to let bad play-calling lose the game... -
I will say this: if we land Moore and it happens the same way Tennessee or Miami did it, I will be sorely disappointed (in us and him)...

Two Potential Pac-12 Trap Games For the Ducks

Lol, once again they Coug'd it in the Palouse... -
I'm with you on this: Thornton needs to be quite a bit higher. I suspect by seasons end that he'll be our leading receiver. I really expect to see a Manziel/Evans relationship between Nix and Dont'e. I would also move 7 McGee up as well...

I haven't been too terribly concerned, namely b/c I keep telling myself we're going after BIG FISH while they're catching minnows. Granted, there is some inherent risk to that strategy if we fail to land some of those big fish, but I'm also seeing a bunch of blue-chip recruits from other schools decommitting and re-opening their recruiting status. Understand, we're forcing our way into the big boy conversation now and if we fail to land some of these 5-star phenoms (which I don't think will be an issue), then I'm confident in our ability to lure enough 4-stars away from other programs that we'll end up top 2 recruiting in the PAC...

Two Potential Pac-12 Trap Games For the Ducks

100% right on with this one. Cal, Wazzu and one of those pesky Arizona teams (which ever we play at their house) are 3 games I ALWAYS watch out for. I'm hoping we can depend on out-scheming these teams in the future instead of just "being tougher..." -
This is now a thing and I'm using it from here on out...

Fact or Fiction: Oregon Is the School to Beat For Dante Moore
Wrathis replied to Smith72's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm certainly knocking on any wood I can find in regards to Dante Moore. What concerns me is that Richard Young decides to stay in the SEC (Georgia) and that somehow he gets Moore to go with him. Granted, both players took official visits to Oregon meaning they have a shared interest in us. However, Georgia is a team in search of a QB this cycle and I have to assume they have deep pockets. If Young decides to go to Georgia (which the crystal ball shows him doing) and the Dawgs make a run at Moore (especially if he takes an unofficial visit there), then that's what really concerns me. Here's hoping we land Moore AND Young and don't have to worry about it at all -
Anonymous Coaches Show Fear of Dan Lanning

Whew, you almost got me Mr. Fischer! When I read that I thought "Did we just get a verbal from Nyckoles Harbor and I didn't hear about it yet? That had me searching everywhere trying to confirm lol. -
What you said is 100% true! A commitment means more than not having one, and signing means more than just a commitment. My point is that nothing is completely binding any longer and so I don't count on having a player until they sign, suit up and make the team. However, I AM grateful to have them in Eugene which means there's legitimate interest there

BIG Recruiting Weekend with TOO HOT Weather?
Wrathis replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It was about 10 years ago down here in Texas where we had over 100 degree temps EVERY DAY for 3 WEEKS! I work in an aircraft hangar without air conditioning and it was AWFUL! These recruits should be LOVING the weather you all are having up there right now! -

Hometown Recruit REJECTS Huskies, Creates Madness at Montlake

Corner Collin Gill Verbals to Oregon!
Wrathis replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I've played and/or watched football most of my life. However, if DL and Co think he's worth the offer, then I absolutely trust their judgement as they've forgotten more in the last 10 minutes than I've learned in my life. If DL trusts them enough to let them, then I trust him enough to give the guy a shot... -
BIG Recruiting Weekend with TOO HOT Weather?

Don't sweat it, that's still 10 degrees cooler than it is down here where a lot of them are probably coming from lol -
Guessing Meatchicken = Michigan?! If so, I'm calling them THE Meatchicken Wolverines from here on out!!!

I'm dating a "THE Ohio State" woman right now (she's from there and her son is enrolled there) and I have to admit she's pretty obnoxious about how much she loves THE Buckeyes...we went axe throwing on a date the other day where the bet was if she won, she got to paint my face like THE Ohio State guy and I had to do the rest of the date like that...or if I won, she had to wear my Ducks jersey for the rest of the date. Boy was she unhappy about wearing that jersey the rest of the night

Could Jay Butterfield Thrive in Oregon’s New Offense?
Wrathis replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I was high on TT initially due to his rating coming out of High School. Lately I've found myself expecting Butters to be our next QB. Sure, Nix will prolly start the season and possibly finish it out, but I expect our starting QB to be Butters next year. Granted, this is nothing more than a hunch spattered with minor tidbits of deductive reasoning here and there, but I'm really starting to believe he offers a higher floor than TT offers a higher ceiling. Sure, TT may get you a 96 on the test, but he can also get you a 56. Butters on the other hand can get you a 90 but the lowest grade you can expect is a 72...which a passing grade at worst seems like a no-brainer to me! At any rate, it should make for an entertaining Fall Camp storyline and will keep the drama up going into next season. I will say that we need to get a QB locked down in this class though b/c whomever is the 3rd wheel by the start of the season will probably be shopping for a new place to call home...especially with (hopefully) Dante Moore or Avery Johnson coming in! Geauxducks, Fly HIGH! -
State's Top Prospect Riley Williams Drops Ducks
Wrathis replied to idontrollonshobbas's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Just an opinion here, but I see in-state recruiting in much the same way as I view promoting from within. That's not to say it's always the "correct" move, but I would think it would have a higher success rate if for no other reason than culture and familiarity. I will say this; it makes sense to me that a kid that grew up in the PNW climate would perform better in the cold than someone we pulled from Miami. I've been in Texas almost 15 years (this go 'round anyway) and I still long for that Oregon climate every summer. I'm just not built for this, lol. Besides, I like the idea of a homegrown athlete who's been raised up hating those furry, flea-ridden pests up North rather than having to have them learn it firsthand on game day -

73 Days and Counting! It's the first thing I see on my work calendar every morning! -
What a conundrum! I'm seriously hoping we can pull Moore, as he's made me forget about Rashada and Nico...but it seems like a very sharp two-edged sword with him. We either risk going all-in on Moore and leave Avery to K-State, or we push for Avery at the risk of letting the Aggies wine and dine Moore. What concerns me is that we end up chasing both and getting neither. Granted, not landing a top QB this cycle isn't a death sentence, but it's certainly not something we want to toy with. However, my thought is we go 100% after Moore. I don't say that b/c I think he'll be miles better than Avery, rather I think it sends the signal to the rest of college football (and every recruit in the nation) that we've arrived and will have to be taken seriously. We are a threat and a home for top tier talent. If football is a game of inches like we're told, then landing Moore is an inch that we have to take with confidence and authority. No longer is making the top-5 of a 5 stars list enough, we need to land them and this is as good of a place to assert that as anywhere...

We don't get many blue-chip prospects in state, so I think it's important to land them when possible. However, we are loaded at the position and if he wants out of the PNW, then I hope the best for him. Based on his choices, it seems like a ring is more important to him than immediate playing time and who can fault him for that?! So long as we aren't losing in-state recruits to those mangy, flea-infested varmints up North, then best of luck I say!
