  1. DNC I'll say this: You certainly know how to write articles that evoke a response! In the short time I've been here I've seen more conversation on your write-ups than I've seen on most any other topic here! Keep up the good work and keep the articles coming!
  2. Leinhart, Barkley, Sanchez certainly haven't ruined USC's reputation in the media. Young, McCoy and Applewhite haven't ruined Texas' either. It really hasn't even spoiled tOSU's either although Braxton Miller, Haskins and Terelle Pryor have largely been busts as well. Can anyone name the most recent successful Notre Dame QB? Point being most programs have large percentage of busts in the NFL. It's all about finding the diamonds in the rough...Cal isn't QBU but that Aaron Rodgers guy has been pretty decent. Texas Tech isn't a powerhouse but that hasn't stopped Mahomes from being a stud. Brees at Purdue, Wilson at Whiskey, Allen from Wyoming, Dak from Miss St and Lamar from Louisville...none considered blue-bloods. I doubt anyone has considered us a defensive power school but Arik, Buckner, Kayvon, Matthews, Kiko, Chung etc have all had great NFL careers, especially when compared to our offensive NFL production. Excellent production can come from anywhere and just b/c the media pushes a particular narrative about blue-blood production doesn't mean it's true. Sorry for the rant, but this happens to be one of those things where we "get no respect" by other fans and it boils my blood. Now back to your regular scheduled programming
  3. I think we 100% need to be prepping the underclassmen to play. They need practice reps with the first team, hell they need game reps with the first team. Ideally you wouldn't do that when a game is still up for grabs, but if your scheduled cupcakes are still in it after halftime, then you have MUCH bigger issues to address. (and yes, I get that we only scheduled one this year) IF Nix starts against Georgia and the game at any point gets out of hand, then the underclassmen should be getting playing reps. In game 2 against EWU, both Thompson and Butters should see playing time...significant playing time. Nix, having played for Dillingham previously and knowing his offense, shouldn't need the reps nearly as badly as our other two. I expect BYU to be a game that goes to the 4th quarter and if the starter gets all the reps in that one, that's understandable... Point being, Thompson/Butters need the reps and we need to establish a hierarchy. The fact it doesn't already exist is largely the fault of the previous administration, but thankfully we aren't scrambling to get transfers in here to be competitive as he left the shelves very well stocked. IF running a two-QB system this season gets us an established hierarchy, then so be it...but lets establish QB-2 who can start the next 2 years while Moore is coming on-line. Lets prepare for the future or we'll find that we don't have much of one to look forward to...
  4. This had not once occurred to me and I'm glad you brought it up. I believe the boos were warranted as it let him know that his actions weren't lining up with his speech about bringing an exciting offense back to Eugene, however if in his mind it was a betrayal then it explains why he was out the door before the season ended. I know I wouldn't feel like I owed anyone that betrayed me a thing! I also find it telling that initially the players CHOSE Mario (and a few stuck with him) but in the end they started abandoning ship...it would appear that maybe they felt betrayed as well. Oh well you know what they say, "all's well that ends well!"
  5. Good grief...in the clip he's rolling out, throwing off balance and launching the ball 45 yards on a spot!!! I do like that he acts like his commitment is non-negotiable and now he's just recruiting receivers and linemen. That's the one part of recruiting this season that has me concerned: I want to see some new offensive linemen coming in. Here's hoping we can get some good protection coming in for Dante and work some miracles before NSD!
  6. I see a lot of USC in that list and they damn sure don't have much to show for it...
  7. You think not having any protection whatsoever has anything to do with it?! USC hasn't recruited hardly any linemen at all in the last 3-4 years and you feel it's completely about cash? Interesting...
  8. If I were a top-tier QB, I'd be looking for a team that is recruiting the best O-line in football, period. Then I'd look at WR's and then defense. While I felt Arch chose Texas bc it's a Blue-Blood where he can build his own legacy by bringing them back to relevancy, they also have recruited 5ea 4 or 5 star offensive linemen last year. (Kelvin Banks anyone?) USC by contrast has 1ea 3* committed this cycle and brought in 1ea 0* recruit and one 3* transfer for 2022. Hell, even 2021's class only had 3ea 3*'s! Yeah, I wouldn't want to go there either no matter how many stars the receivers have! I think he has his own well being at heart and I for one can't at all blame him for that...
  9. This is what I imagine playing for Saban is like and if accurate, there's no arguing the results. He does this though with superior talent... What I appreciated so much about Chip Kelly is that he took 3 stars and beat loaded 5 star teams by scheme. I do believe there's enough ingenuity out there that would allow for this to happen again, but finding it is akin to finding a needle in a haystack. That brings us to Lanning: I believe Lanning, in part bc of his youth, will find a way to take a lesser (albeit still blue-chip) roster and knock off more talented teams with it. Scheme will no doubt play a part as it's understood he's briliant with X's and O's, but I think he's unlocked the new lightning in a bottle by having a team built on accountability to each other and having FUN! I think that's how he's going to make a team produce more than the sum of its parts. I expect there will be some learning curve this year, but by seasons end I believe we'll look like a playoff team. Given about 3 years I think we WILL BE a playoff team...and if we can keep him in Eugene, in 5 years I think he'll bring a Title to Autzen!
  10. USC/UCLA haven't figured out yet that they're pawns in all of this. FOX would literally have them flying across the globe if it made them more money...and with no regard for the well-being of the players. It won't take long before the teams will be OVER traveling back and forth from LA to NY, PA, WI, MN etc and when that happens, it's gonna fall on deaf ears. Best thing we can do is pick up SDSU and maybe 3 more teams, sign a deal with Amazon/Apple etc and leave the LA schools to their fate. I will have ZERO remorse for them...
  11. Ok, I thought I was over conference realignment stuff...and honestly I am. However, I'm now even more over hearing about the crowning of Lincoln Riley. As a matter of fact, those two things have something in common: USC. I'm sick of them. I'm sick of reading about them, hearing about them and sick of seeing them plastered over anything college football related I try to look at. I need them to get beat, badly...by Stanford, the Beavs, the Cougs, and the Utes. I'm wanting to Caleb Williams to get absolutely demolished and then have the player that does it run over to the sideline and point at Lincoln Riley like Gary Burtier did in Remember the Titans. I need them to become an anathema, a cautionary tale told only in whispers that people are scared to talk about for fear whatever curse befell the Trojans will now fall on them. Most of all I'm sorry...sorry to have rambled on about this. Sorry knowing that you all have to be as sick of them already as I am...and yet here I am writing about them and you're stuck reading it. That's my fault. I offer my apologies and leave you with this: hope. Hope that they fail miserably. Hope that they end the season worse off than the puppies up north. Hope that they and their dreaded coliseum fall off into the blue waters of the Pacific never to be heard from again...and that if somehow they manage to make the PAC-12 Championship, I hope Noah, Justin, Bradyn, Brandon, Popo and company are as sick of hearing about them as we are and act accordingly.
  12. "There's a disconnect at UW that they're Notre Dame or Michigan. They aren't. They never have been." Love this line from the article...and I never want to miss an opportunity to dunk on the dogs up north. -HUCK THE FUSKIES-
  13. While I think it's true that some will objectify them, they knowingly risk that. Photos (and cheerleaders in general) don't offend me, and they really are beautiful and add to the game day experience. I think the point could be made that it's sexist by including or even excluding them. In the end this is your barbeque and I won't be offended either way...
  14. Hey Steven A, I can't see real good...is that Bill Shakespeare over there? From what I've heard, DZNC has been using that paper not for writing, but for rolling doobies!MattFoley.jfif
  15. Immediately following Rolls Royce we did have Cyrus Habibi-Likio who was a dude that could get the first down or into the end-zone, it's just that was the ONLY thing he was used for. Unfortunate bc I would have loved to see him pound the rock quite a bit more...
  16. In my (humble, uneducated) opinion, Bo Nix is Johnny Manziel 2.0...he's wild, erratic and a hell of a lot of fun to watch IF he has Mike Evans. I believe we have our own Mike Evans in Donte Thornton, Chase Cota and Caleb Champman. These are 6'4"+ guys that can make clutch catches and win random jump balls when Nix just heaves something up for grabs. Granted, I'd rather not have our QB throwing jump balls while there's more than .05 seconds left on the clock...however, if that's what we're working with, then at least we have the receivers to win those battles and maybe, just maybe, having an offensive line that gives him time to make reads will preclude some of that. I still believe Butters gives us our highest floor, and Thompson our highest ceiling...but Nix is our most experienced. The way I feel this year is still the same way I did last year which is, get our QB of the future the experience he needs to be able to lead the team to greatness...which brings up my biggest gripe of all: this season should have been OUR season for greatness! We have a top tier O-line, what should be a scary good defense and here we are playing another transfer QB b/c Mari0 refused to give Thompson/Butters the experience they should have gotten last year. Even though he's gone, we're still reaping the benefits AND paying for the sins of the previous administration. At this point I'm ready to just right the ship and sail off into the sunset of whatever it is the future holds...
  17. The part of me that wants to brag says go semi-pro and dethrone the current hierarchy...but if I'm being honest the part of me that wants to wake up on cool, Fall Saturday mornings to watch football all day wishes things were the way they used to be. In life when I see something is rigged, I walk away from it and typically don't look back. That's how I'm starting to feel... Thanks for a well-written, thought provoking article that puts things in perspective...
  18. I think Byron Cardwell wins the job and is our most productive scorer. I think he's also our "closer" as well...As far as the jumping out of your chair player? We all know 7 McGee is gonna be electric, but I also concur that Thornton is gonna have his share of Sportscenter moments. I think he makes 3-4 "You got Moss'd" touchdown catches this year that make national news...
  19. 9-3 with our losses coming in Atlanta, the Palouse and home against Utah.
  20. OMG, how much fun is this?! Since we're dreaming, I don't think he took it far enough...The PAC-12 lost USC/UCLA but since we're dreaming, how about we just replace them with Notre Dame (like he suggested) and Texas as well!! Now we get to stay as the PAC-12, we get the biggest whale out there in ND and we land the insufferable Longhorns to boot! Whew, this dreaming stuff is FUN!
  21. My initial thought is this guy is a SNAKE and I don't care what he says, especially now that he's shown me his word means NOTHING. The more sympathetic side of me says he saw what ESPN did with the SEC and knew survival was paramount...something Larry Scott didn't have a clue about. At this point my faith isn't in the B1G, nor in ESPN...I believe GK and PK are the ONLY people that have our best interest at heart, and they're both BIG DAWGS in the room. That's where my faith is in that we'll continue to be a player in the college football world.
  22. Clemson has become who they are (perception-wise) by winning their out of conference games. When they play 'Bama, they don't get rolled. To become Clemson of the West, we have to do the same and we can start by giving Georgia all they can handle and by beating the brakes off of BYU, then not losing our Bowl game. It would help if the rest of our conference would do the same, but since we can't control that aspect, it's up to us to control what we can and beating teams like we did 10 years ago is a great place to start...
  23. You can bet that USC and anyone else we're competing with right now is selling this. Uncertainty breeds caution and I can promise you parents are being sold a load of pessimism about our future right now. Stability will sell and while Oregon can wait for the best deal possible, expect that we'll lose recruits in the short term for it. Already I saw where Jurrion Dickey was now offered by A&M and you can 100% bet they are pitching this instability to him as we speak. Waiting for the best media deal may be the right play for now, but it's 100% going to come with consequences...and that's just one more reason for me to hate on USC and the B1G!
  24. Whew, it doesn't look like they were very kind...
  25. I don't disagree with this at all. Speaking in terms as an Oregon fan, I'd LOVE to have a bigger recruiting footprint in Texas while keeping Arizona, California and Nevada. The reason I'm discounting it though is b/c it doesn't look like the B12 is interested in a merger with the PAC(10). As I've said before, personally I'd love it b/c as a resident of Texas, that would make seeing Oregon play MUCH easier and cheaper. However, it appears that the B12 is more interested in keeping what they have and adding the 4-corner schools than they are with merging with the PAC...
