  1. It's feeling more and more like Oregon needs to beat UW by a convincing margin, much like they did Oregon State. I fear a narrow, close, or come-from-behind win in the last moments gives impetus to Texas' big win over TT even though that team is nowhere near UW in the rankings. It's probably just my own "nervous nellie" feelings, much like what Charles stated above. But, I also feel the CFP just HAS to include the winner of the toughest conference in the country (from top to bottom): the Pac-12 Champion. How can it not?
  2. I simply can't image any scenario where Oregon, if they beat UW, isn't in the CFP. Not a Georgia loss to Alabama, not a Texas win in their Conference game nor a Louisville win over FSU (which I think is likely).
  3. Call me a cynic but I think it's in the interests of the CFP to have the winner of the toughest conference in foot ball this year, either O or UW, in the playoffs rather than two teams from the Big 10 who have already faced off together. Does anyone think the fans around the country really want to see another rematch of those two so soon? Sorry Ohio State. You probably don't beat Michigan in a rematch unless you can figure out how to have the rest of their coaches thrown out of the game along with Harbaugh and their starting QB. The winner from the West makes more sense than Ohio State, again.
  4. We're all worried about Camden's kicking and all hoping it doesn't come down to a last minute kick again like in Seattle. That said, as we all worry - about that time Camden comes in and makes an unbelievable kick no one is expecting him to make. That's often the way football goes. GO OREGON!
  5. IMO, no, no such luck. I think he's been struggling a bit because his team is struggling and perhaps the pressure is getting to him a bit; the Heisman talk, the Championship game talk and then the talk about the CFP Playoffs. Unlike Bo Nix, this young man hasn't been thru the wars. Certainly not like Nix has. The narrow escape yesterday against WSU may have shaken the confidence of UW as a team a bit but I strongly expect them to come out against Oregon next Friday "loaded for bear". The problem may be, though, this bear is even bigger and stronger than it was back in October. And they won't be meeting in Husky Stadium.
  6. Yeah, a huge recruit, if Oregon can land him. After what he saw against the Beavers and after what he's about to see when they play UW I think Oregon has a very good chance of convincing this young man Oregon is the place he should be. Oregon could find itself in the Top 5 with this commitment and maybe one or two others.
  7. Now that Smith is leaving, they may be forced to dial back financially - unless - they get extremely lucky and land their own version of Dan Lanning. But, even then things will be tough for the Beavers due to their difficulty in recruiting enough talent to compete with the better schools like Oregon. And when they do get some great players, the transfer portal is always there to see them jumps ship to a better program. The Beaver future at this moment is looking a little bleak.
  8. Ruh-Roh! Bad news for the Beavers. Bad news for MSU opponents, including Oregon. Give this coach a stacked roster of talent and he could be a force. He had clearly taken OSU just about as far as OSU was ever gonna go given the recruiting potential of that school. The Smith/Lanning rivalry continues, eh?
  9. While very happy with the win last night I am still impressed with the level of play JS gets out of his limited talent pool. The Ducks are so much deeper than OSU has ever been (may be deeper than O has ever been) that it's an overmatch OSU just can't win. But, boy, are they a game bunch and they did effectively slow and almost stop the run game. They just couldn't stop both the run and the pass. When Smith goes to a team that can stack him with talent like Oregon, watch out!
  10. To pass Jon's "eye test" O needs to win this game decisively (ie: by at least the -14 points they're favored). But the Beavers, nasty creatures that they are, seldom like to comply with the script. I'd love to see a 56-21 game too. But...
  11. Am I the only one who thinks this will be close? Apparently. That's OK. I'd be happy to be wrong! 38-28 Oregon
  12. I don't suppose some of these jerks in India might actually be Duck fans? No, not likely. Thanks for what you do Charles to keep this site alive and working so well. I'll certainly help out a bit.
  13. LOL - Oh, it'll be cold all right. Down into the '30's by game time and maybe 20's by the 4th Qtr. What happens when the pond freezes over? Beavers go into their dens and hide. Duck get up a fly away to warmer climes. I hear it's warmer in Las Vegas.
  14. Fortunately, the Beavers are a run-oriented offense. After what they did to Oregon last year in Corvallis I'm pretty certain they'll be trying it again this year. But this year, Lanning & Co. are ready for it. Oregon's "weak-link" at DB may not get too many tests in this one. Not with the pass rush the Ducks are gonna throw at the Beavers. Stephens may hold up just fine in this one. Let's all hope.
  15. This will be an exciting game for the recruits to watch. They're going to get a real good taste for what a terrific rivalry at the collegiate level looks like. OSU will put up a real dogfight in this one - they always do. But if Oregon can get out on top of them and stay there they're gonna see what real brute strength means for a football team - unlike anything they've ever seen at the HS level. Lanning has built this team to do to OSU what OSU did to O last year in Corvallis. And he has the talent and depth to overwhelm them. The 'kids' are gonna be impressed with what they see tomorrow night. And if they watch the Championship game they're gonna see it again when Oregon crushes UW in the rematch. Then they'll know where they want to play.
  16. I don't think this is the case. What I think Lanning is doing is building depth at very key positions along the O & D lines so he can continue to rotate players in and out for certain situations, to cut down on injuries and to keep fresh bodies in the game. Remember last year's Civil War game when OSU just flat wore down the Oregon Defensive line and basically ran the ball right down their throats. 27 straight running plays and two ~10 minute drives killed Oregon. Look for a very different outcome tomorrow night. Oregon will be doing the wearing down and OSU will be the team exhausted at the end.
  17. This one is gonna be a doozy; 38-28 Oregon 2 TO's 3 Sacks 300 Yards passing
  18. If Oregon decides to go the transfer route for another QB (they still have TT & AN, remember) then I'd rather see them grab one with at least two years of eligibility left, not one. No 'one-and-duns' here at Oregon. That just doesn't make good sense to me. Just my own opinion.
  19. Good article by Darren. I never thought about Chip Kelly ever moving down to some lower Division school but really, Perkins might be right. If teaching and having players hungry to learn is Kelly's forte (certainly the opposite of the NFL or prima donna collegiate athletes who've been coddled all their careers) might be an excellent choice for him. It's likely he doesn't need the money any longer, he probably has a lot already and is set for life.
  20. Sure you are. The last thing your wife probably wants right now is her husband hovering over her while this important process begins. But stay close! Oh, yeah. Stay close! Congratulations and have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Bring in the New Year with a New Duck fan.
  21. Football-wise: grateful for Dan Lanning and all his coaching staff. Greatful for the wonderful season the Ducks have had so far. Grateful for everyone on this board and for Charles and his friends making this a fun place to post and learn about football. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
  22. So far, one could say DeBoer has been Lanning's kryptonite. He's the first coach to beat him twice. Beating the Beavers will prevent Smith from going the same club. So there's that. Getting a rematch with the Dawgs and beating them in Vegas will end any speculation by doubters Dan couldn't beat DeBoer. I have to think that as focused and unselfish as Dan Lanning seems to be, these little things might be lurking in the recesses of his mind. He has a golden opportunity to put both of these devils to rest. The next devil to exorcise will be Kirby Smart. And like coach Prime once famously remarked "We Be Commin". The Ducks are Coming.
  23. SOS will soar if they beat the Beavers & Dawgs. #16 & #4. Better than a lot of other teams.
  24. You certainly behaved better than a lot of us would have probably. He was clearly trying to bait you (pun intended) into an argument - to ruin your day on the river. I hope you had a great day anyway!
