  1. I'm with you on this! But once the B1G gets its hooks into the brand and glamour of Oregon I don't think they're gonna want to ever let go. They may tire quickly of USC, UCLA and UW, but not imo Oregon. Oregon gives them something they didn't have before even though it looked like they had everything: prestige, tradition and championships. Excitement, real excitement, the kind you get when you score TD's routinely in under 2 minutes. Uniforms to die for (yeah, Oregon largely pioneered that too). Offenses that leave opponents and announcers breathless trying to keep up. The Big was getting there, sort of, but there's a real pizazz that Oregon just oozes with that stolid and stodgy Ohio State & Michigan (much less Purdue and the like) couldn't quite generate. Oregon gives the B1G Glamour. Don't look for them to let that one go until or unless they get their own. Championships they have but in a lot of respects, they're boring.
  2. I heard Texas A&M may have offered Deion Jimbo's former job. Does anyone think he might take his two boys and move back to Texas? He could keep on wearing that hat he's so fond of. Remember, he was once a Cowboy.
  3. That was so hard to watch. It took a fluke event to cost Oregon their chance to take home the trophy. I will never forget that nor will I ever be convinced Auburn could have outscored Oregon in O.T. Even in it took 3 O.T.'s But, ka-sa-ra, sa ra as the old Doris Day song goes. This is 2021, 2nd year in the Lanning era and we move on! GO MIGHTY OREGON
  4. Not if Uncle Phil, Rob Mullens and Dan Lanning can help it. (just funnin')
  5. Yes, it was after Kelly had left that Oregon made it to their 2 championship appearances, but it was because of what Oregon had now become offensively, coupled with a solid, almost-good-enough defense. A little better defense and Oregon may have won at least one Championship.
  6. This game may be a little tougher than we think; but 42-17 Oregon 2 T.O. 4 Sacks 4 TD passes 350 yards
  7. I think we're forgetting just how refreshing Chip Kelly and his outlook on offense really was. Mike Bellotti had a solid, well-coached team that was sound on many fundamentals but it lacked that certain spark on Offense that could ignite it. He brought in this young man from some obscure little college in New Hampshire who had a host of different ideas on what an Offense could be. Kelly was most definitely an "out-of-the-box" thinker and exactly what Bellotti knew Oregon needed. When Kelly got the reins to run Bellotti's offense, the Ducks really took off. Suddenly 4th downs from the Duck side of the 50 were no longer automatic punts. The ball distribution to get skill players in position to succeed were amazing. Point totals soared for Oregon. Opponents in the Pac-12 were caught completely off-guard and had no idea, nor were they built, to keep up with what Kelly was doing. The entire nation stood up took notice, even if they tried their hardest not to and dismissed it as "gimmick". Pretty soon the University of Oregon was a football school everyone was noticing. And then, the unthinkable happened: Oregon made it to the National Title game. Then they made it a second time. It's my own personal opinion that Chip Kelly help fundamentally change the way college football was being played, probably forever. Suddenly, everyone had to think about winning games not 10-7 or 14-6. They had to learn to score 35, 45 or 55 points, not just to win, but because the fans of American football were demanding more! Oregon's Offense was the most exciting to watch and it was catching on around the country like the flue bug. No, I'll always appreciate Chip Kelly for what he did for Oregon. And I thank Mike Bellotti for having the smarts to know what Oregon needed and where to find that person to bring Oregon to true National prominence. Offensive minds like Will Stein undoubtably owe a lot to Kelly for showing the old stolid coaches of the 1970's, 80's and 90's that Offenses could be so much more than they were. "Defenses win Championships" they cried. No. Scoring more points than your opponent and ATTACKING those defenses, stressing them to the breaking point, wins Championships. And Chip Kelly, in his prime at Oregon showed even the NFL that the game of football needed to change. And it has. Bless Chip Kelly. I'm happy it was at the University of Oregon, under a great coach Mike Bellotti, where he showed fans what Offenses could and should be. Since he's left, to the credit of the university they have never looked back.
  8. Unfortunately, injuries happen. But injuries to a starter are an opportunity for younger players to 'get their shot' at playing and who knows what that opportunity brings. Pleasant would be a "pleasant" surprise for Oregon if he can come into the game and make his mark.
  9. The fans can stay home, that'd be fine. As far as the weather goes, that's a warm spring day for Oregon. Perfect weather for Ducks. What's a little rain to Oregon?
  10. I'd like to see a top 10 place kicker commit. Lewis is a Senior. Grant Meadors and Andrew Boyle are on staff but a really good kicker who can boom it from 50+ yards out would be refreshing.
  11. Gotta record this game: there's bound to be some very interesting and new playmaking going on 'twixt these two offensive staffs. I look forward to Charles, Coach Boles & Darren Perkins breaking down parts of this one.
  12. Charles advises us to enjoy the moment. So that's what I'm gonna do. Besides, there's nothing we as fans can do to change anything of importance that happens at the University. Dan's staying on as coach. That he made abundantly clear Monday. Life's good. Go Oregon - Beat ASU.
  13. I'm prejudiced because I think Oregon is one of the very best if not THE best job in college football today. When all things are taken into consideration, I just don't see any school offering anyone a better place to live & coach. Oh, there are bigger and richer schools, but there aren't any more competitive AND offering the small-city environment and quality of life here in Oregon. Not with Oregon's name brand recognition. If you want to live in the deep South, go for it. If you want to live in the big mid-western metropolises go for it. If you want to live on the over-populated East coast, go for it. And if you want to live in the cesspool that's become of LA, go for it. San Antonio might be a nice choice but the UTSA Roadrunners aren't exactly knocking on the Heaven's door of College Football. The University of Oregon is.
  14. I'm told by some friends that officiate at the HS level that the Pac-12 Refs are well known for 2 things: Inconsistency in calling penalties and a proclivity to interject themselves into the game. I don't know if any of this is true, though I have friends that swear by it. It's even more of a problem on the Basketball court. I do know this, it seems to happen to Oregon at the most inconvenient times. With the exception of Pass Interference calls, which can save a TD from being scored against your team with just a 15 yard penalty instead, penalties can be devastating and can certainly affect the outcome of any close game. They have to be brought under control - somehow. I'm sure Dan Lanning understands this.
  15. I respectfully disagree, (tho I know the clause I spoke of is unrealistic). This 'revolving door coaches' thing can't be good in the long run, can it? I mean, we got lucky with Will Stein but if every coach who comes here goes elsewhere after one year we'll be doing this for the foreseeable future. That said, I think it unlikely Will Stein will leave after just one year. He's pretty young and still learning the craft and is sitting on a Gold Mine right now. But, the idea was advanced and I was responding with my thoughts that somehow Oregon has to be able to land and hold on to these good coaches they're getting.
  16. Should Stein leave O for a new position anywhere (HC or not) I'd have to say maybe Oregon should put a clause in the contracts for everyone they hire to STAY PUT thru the length of their initial contract or NO money for the remaining years on the contract. Do you think coaches would be afraid to sign on?
  17. College Game Day may be building the next Home Depot set in Harrisonburg, Va as we write but little James Madison University, at 10-0 isn't getting much respect either - to go along with OSU. According to a news article from Scripps JMU was hoping for a waiver (like the one that Jacksonville State tried for but was also denied) so as to appear in their first-ever New Year's 6 bowl game. As one of the nation's last un-defeated teams (with a good chance of staying that way) a bowl appearance would have been exciting and huge for the program. No deal, according to the NCAA spokesperson unnamed. The denial has to do with their changing of the Division they now play for. Apparently, there's a 2-year ban on bowl participation.by any team changing Divisions. Does this mean Oregon won't be eligible next year, and the year after because of their move to the Big-10? Article here:https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/undefeated-james-madison-told-it-can-t-play-in-a-bowl-game/ar-AA1k2QrO?cvid=9b97bdb9603e4fd4b2f4ff8ed5005834&ei=45
  18. Do you suppose ESPN might be asking the CGD panelists where they'd rather go: Corvallis, Or. or Harrisonburg, Virginia in November? I wouldn't be totally surprised to learn the panelists have a pretty big influence on where Home Depot sets up next. Congratulations to James Madison, by the way. They're having a terrific season.
  19. It sounds like if Bo could figure out a way to finagle another year of eligibility not only would Oregon benefit but so would he - vastly. Who needs to turn Pro? He'll be rich before he even inks a deal with some NFL team at the bottom in the cellar. (I'm just kidding. I know he can't play a 6th season)
  20. Kenny only mentioned the performance of the Offense. I'm pretty confident he will come up with some pretty creative ways to attack O's defense. And he has a very legitimate RB in Scattebo to set up the passing game. I think Oregon will get challenged and will have to be on their toes. They should also learn some very good lessons - lessons that will serve them well going forward from this game. O wins, but closer than some think (my guess). Ah, that Tempe air...
  21. The Ducks, under Lanning, have not shown the proclivity to overlook an opponent prior to any game this season. So far. With the "last" Civil War about to be played and ASU @ 2-5 in the Pac, one hopes they won't this week either. One week at a time, right? That said, ASU did surprise UCLA in Pasadena and held a decent offense to 7 points and score 17 on a good defense. They also played UW pretty tough. Couple that with what Kenny remembers about how things are done at Oregon and you have an interesting situation. Hmmm. This game might be closer than the odds predict. However, I did the research and the oddsmakers are pretty confident O will actually beat the spread. Are they setting themselves up to win a lot of our Christmas $$?
