A Great Win ... But What's Going on With Ty Thompson?
Mic replied to Mic's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Normally I say no - we need to develop our own kids, and this is why what's happening with TT is so concerning - he doesn't look like he's progressing or even wants to be the #1. But looks can be very deceiving. The young man might just step it up next year (if Bo moves on) and really shine. I just don't see it in him when he comes into the games now. This 5-star QB Oregon's wooing from Michigan right now might just be the kid who wants the ball in his hands and if that's the case, TT might be moving to another team.. I hope not, but ... -
The WINNER of the OBD Prediction Contest vs. Colorado is...

That's not just a motorcycle. It's a Tardis machine. He's cheatin'. He time-traveled then came back and made his "prediction". -
A Great Win ... But What's Going on With Ty Thompson?
Mic replied to Mic's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
What's most puzzling is Ty doesn't "look" like he's trying. And Jay Butterfield isn't getting any chance to see if he can do any better. What is Lanning doing here? I give up. -
yeah

With plenty of time left for Alabama to either win it or tie it. Oregon should be so lucky to see LSU win it. We'll see.

A Great Win ... But What's Going on With Ty Thompson?
Mic replied to Mic's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It'd be easy to joke about it and believe me, I'd love to make it a joke. But I see what he does on the field when he comes out to play and I'm just left puzzled. Maybe he's already made his mind up he's moving t another team or, well, I just don't know. I hate to be a debbie-downer after such a good win but it really has me concerned. -
Well, Oregon finally gave up another sack, with Ty Thompson at QB. I don't know if I've ever seen a team that could look SO good with one QB and then so ...differently ... with the backup in. I'll repeat what I said a couple weeks ago about Ty (and I like this kid). Ty looks like he's either afraid to be out there or is absolutely not interested in being the QB anymore. Has he shown any flash of excellence this year? What do you guys think? It's important because Bo Nix is just one tackle away from getting hurt. This is not meant to be a knock on Ty, just an honest inquiry.

Forget About Notre Dame Joining the B1G...
Mic replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
As regards 1) above, Charles, what contract is that? And, as regards the last point: Exactly. In my humble and unknowledgeable opinion, it is precisely this (money and independence) that has enabled ND to do exactly what they please for so many years that everyone expects and accepts it. It's also why (imho) so many fans are getting sick of 'em. But I could be all wet on that. Independents should not be allowed into the CFB Playoffs. Imagine an 'Independent' expecting to play in the Super Bowl or World Series after setting their own schedules with the opponents where & when they want!. Not even ND deserves that. -
Aaron Fentress wants to see O score into the 50's in this one, with a 5 TD lead at the Half. Joey H guesses 77-3. My 45-20 is looking rather meager!

That's a lot of dreaming' all right! I'll see if I can slip into that somnambulant state with ya because I think that's about what it's going to take. Two dreamers are better than one!

Revenge is a Dish Best Served Cold–and at High Altitude
Mic replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
After I wrote my little tease above I went back and looked up Ore State's win over Colo and I see the Beavers beat them 42-9. So, you may have been closer than you thought. Like you say above, it might come down to how merciful Dan Lanning is and how well the subs do against the Buffs. OSU certainly had no problem with 'em. +6 TD's might not be enough! however, OSU got them at home (Corvallis) whereas O gets them on the road -

Nice Edsel. Should'a bought the one I had a chance to buy once - but back then, as a kid, I though they were hideous. Well, they still are ... -
Oregon 45-20 2 TO's forced 4 Sacks 300 yards passing 250 yards rushing half a dozen penalties (at least) 1 targeting call (Pac-12 refs)

Ah, well ... there you go! Geoffrey Chaucer - THE hardest to understand writer in "English" I ever tried to read. Probably why I didn't remember his crafty rooster. Thanks!

Not ready to go there yet. Besides, even after Uncle Phil flys off the the Great Gig in the Sky, there'll probably be some sort of Trust Fund set up - some sort of perpetual Memorial Endowment for posterity. At least, that's everyone's hope. ps: don't forget Oregon did make it to 2 National Championship games right here where they are. Even after USC flees for the cold winds in Michigan and Ohio a 12-0 winner of the Pac-whatever, (13-0 after the Championship game) will be invited to play in the Natty, esp if they go to a 12-team format.

After watching this game I think I could be a Chanticleer fan too. (whatever the he_l a chanticleer is). Looks like they've been studying Chip Kelly's playbook and recruiting all the speediest players they can find. Pretty soon, the CFB is gonna have to deal with them too - but they're SOS will hamper them.

Is It Possible for Ducks to Reach CFB Playoffs?
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Only if lightening strikes - in at least 4 different places at once. During outside practice. Alas ~ -

Wow! 6 TD's and take the over? Let's see, if I count all my toes & fingers three times I still don't get to a number high enough to count that far. I know the Ducks are favored by -30.5 (I don't have a 1/2-toe but I can 'wing' that one) but when it comes to the O/U ... well ... that's just way too many fingers and toes for me to be counting. How about a 'gentleman's bet? Oregon wins but the skating Buffs cover the points? No $, just bragging rights - a "I told you so" sorta thing? I'd like to think the Ducks could hang a Georgia-type whooping on 'em but that high mountain air and the "it's a poor dog" quote I mentioned earlier won't allow me to wrap my pointy head around that many points. Sure hope you're right, tho! 30.5 !! GO DUCKS! -
While us die-hard Ducks fans would like to think Oregon is a coaching position to die for, a dream job (for some) that might not be the case for a lot of coaches, including Dan Lanning and Kenny Dillingham (not to mention other staff as well). The only individuals I ever remember hearing voice a desire to coach here (when not asked) were Justin Wilcox and Chris Peterson, both whom would have been great individuals to have landed. For reasons we aren't aware of, they were passed over with Cal getting Wilcox and Washington getting Peterson. I also seem to remember that Bill Musgrave was once interested in the job, too, but I can'r remember for sure. Regardless, I think we should all expect the coaching carousel to continue into the future, maybe not this year or next, but as Oregon's fortunes rise, so will the offers for out coaches and Eugene, Oregon just isn't a place a lot of these fast-rising coaches see as a permanent place to hang their hats. Alas~ but that's for another day. For now I'm gonna enjoy the sun while it shines its face on Oregon football. GO DUCKS!

Ducks vs Colorado: Game-Prep Article Thread
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Expect a tough fight - early. Colorado's over-matched, no doubt about it. The betting line has Oregon -31.5 with an O/U of 63 so O is expected to score a lot of points while giving up few, say 45-14-ish. They're 1-7. 2-time Super Bowl champ Booger McFarland had a great quote tonight on Sports Center when he said "It's a poor dog who won't fight in his own backyard." I expect the Buffalos will make it a fight. The high mountain air in Boulder and the long flight out will take its toll. But O should roll because I believe Oregon has a coach who has this team totally focused on winning; both at the line of scrimmage and in the open field with talent at all positions. But nothing in the Pac-12 is automatic. GO DUCKS! -
No doubt about it - winning games is fun. As long as the winning continues so will all those smiles.

This Week’s Other Games. Pick the Winner.
Mic replied to DrJacksPlaidPants's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Georgia, Alabama, FSU and Beavers. The Beavers pick is my "out-on-a-limb' pick. But then, I just...can't... well, I've said that enough about the Huskies. -
There's also this 'little' thing called "buyout" that O received for riding themselves of MC. $10 million buyout. OK, maybe not so little.

All this talk about the Ducks Offense & Nix' performance (Luv it!) deserves attention all right, but I'm sitting here in front of the boob tube watching Appalachian St. vs Coastal Carolina. Talk about an electric offense! C.C. has what looks like what Oregon had under Kelly going on right now. And they've got a kid that looks like DAT came back in a Tardis machine. About the same kind of defense, too.
