Ducks vs Washington: Game-Prep Article Thread
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Sorry, PennDuck, I just don't view Washington (7-2) as "another bad opponent". They beat OSU. OSU probably has at least as good a Defense as Oregon does, maybe better. OSU can't score points like Oregon can but, they were unable to hold Washington below 24. Who knows, they may score 30+ against O. They're strongest where Oregon is weakest - in the passing game. Washington is not (imo) a bad opponent. Besides, beating the Huskies is always a big win. Even if they're 0-9 entering the game. Go Oregon! Just as long as O or Bo Nix don't wind up on the cover of SI magazine At least, not until February. -
Joel Klatt: Oregon Made Scheduling Mistake with Georgia
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It's probably about the same now and with USC & UCLA leaving probably even more important that Oregon plays some strong OOC trams to keep their SOS up. Let's just say USC & UCLA leaving didn't do Oregon, (nor the rest of the Pac) any good. It's not something either of those two teams probably give wit about, tho. -
I feel the same way. No way Lanning & Dillingham are asking him to go out there and dog it. It's very puzzling. I suspect we won't know more until either we see Nix go down in a game to injury (Lord forbid!) or next season when Nix moves on (if he does).

So you see where the Duck's weak points are (above). And you see where the Husky weak points are. I like our chances. -

Thanks for that reminder. Oregon does not, or I should say, has not had to rely on his foot to win games this year but the day is coming where it could make the difference against a really good team that holds Oregon to under 30 and scores against us like we score against them.

Joel Klatt: Oregon Made Scheduling Mistake with Georgia
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
In my own opinion, without any outside knowledge what-so-ever, I would disagree (with respect) to what Klatt said when he says "There was no reason and no benefit in playing that game." Sure, If Oregon had scheduled Idaho or some such opponent instead, Oregon might be 9-0 right now but ranked any higher than #6? Possibly #5 but probably not #4 due to a 'soft' SOS. I'm going to assume the Georgia game was scheduled long before Dan Lanning came on the scene. It's been the thought of many fans and coaches that to learn how to play with the big dogs you have to play the big dogs. Playing it always safe with lesser teams doesn't show a team where they need to work to get better and just how a really good team looks and plays. There might be just a bt of prejudice here. I've never been a big fan of Joe Klatt. And I don't really remember him being a big fan of Oregon either. -
Dan Lanning Weekly Press Conference: Addresses Auburn Rumor
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
We'll see (probably) how this all changes or stays the same after season 2, 3 & 4. If the Ducks are still putting up 40+ pts/game and winning 10/12 games per season, Lanning has a pretty secure job here. If he falls down slowly, (going 9-3, 8-4, 7-5) that might be another matter entirely. If I were to lay odds on this I'd be inclined to bet Lanning continues to keep Oregon very competitive and in the run for the Roses more often than not. -
And what do you suppose might happen should this 5-star wonderkind we've all been hearing about (Donte Moore) decides to commit to Oregon? The Transfer portal opens up once again Dec. 03. Maybe the answer lies there.

No, I certainly agree with that.

If I might be allowed to disagree here I don't think Ty's performance (or lack luster showing) has anything to do with a rope-a-dope technique. Dan Lanning doesn't strike me as the type of person to put Ty through this sort of charade. I've voiced my concern numerous times as well as my puzzlement on this matter. Truth is, none of us really know what the reason(s) are. One possibility I've yet to express is that perhaps (?) Ty's performance has much to do with the fact that by the time he gets into the game, the game is essentially decided. There is no urgency to score any points but more emphasis on just avoiding turnovers and disasters. The problem with this thought is that it would make very good sense for Ty to help the team achieve at least one first down to control the ball longer. Even that has been a challenge for him. (Disclaimer: the above post is not meant to be snarky or disrespectful in any way.)

Fortunately not - otherwise we'd be burned out by the time the game day arrived. (Disclaimer: the above post is not meant to be snarky or disrespectful in any way.)

Dan Lanning Weekly Press Conference: Addresses Auburn Rumor
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
To be fair to both (tho we're all happy they're not here anymore) both were known to have expressed a :"dream job" elsewhere (FSU & Miami). It was just a matter of time before that dream job opened up. Lanning hasn't (as far as I know) ever voiced a similar sentiment. -
How the Passing Game of the Huskies Can Bite the Ducks
Mic replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The passing game has been O's most glaring weakness - even Colorado had an 81-yd throw for score, (they're only TD) against the secondary. Hill will be out to start the game and UW probably knows running the ball against O is not going to lead to a lot of scores. But I just don't think UW will be able to keep up O in scoring, not without some Oregon turnovers. Still, Oregon needs to get pressure on Penix and force him to throw the ball away or make bad throws. It's Washington's best chance to beat Oregon and they probably know that as well. I'd really hate to see UW score more points against O than they managed against OSU. -
The WINNER of the OBD Prediction Contest vs. Colorado is...
Mic replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I keep underestimating the Ducks Defense. Or maybe I just keep overestimating the opponent's offense. I even figured Colorado would score twice as many points as they did. -
Dan Patrick Reporting the Pac-12 Expanding with San Diego State

SD State makes sense if you consider the market size in San Diego. Players will like the away games better than say, Montana or Eastern Washington. -
whoops.... uh .... yeah ... thanks! Back to square One.

Canzano: Oregon coach Dan Lanning not Interested in Auburn Opening
Mic replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Not so sure this is true, maybe, but not necessarily. Becoming a HC means you no longer get to focus on just Offense but have to deal with all the little things like keeping your O.C., D.C. and all their assistants on the same page, dealing with player issues, recruiting duties, tough decisions relating to almost every facet of day-to-day operations, dealing with media a lot more than an O.C. has to, and so on ... Not to mention the one person who shoulders the blame for almost anything negative a team experiences. -
This latest ranking now makes Oregon the highest ranked 1-loss team; higher than Clemson. Alabama now has 2 losses, the team formerly above Oregon in the 1-loss category. With Michigan & Ohio St., both unbeaten, yet to play each other it will be interesting to see if Oregon can hold that spot after one of them lose to the other. Im guessing not.

Unfortunately I must agree with you and I think just about everyone on this site would as well. Our backup QB's have shown us nothing to inspire any confidence this complex offense of Dilly's can continue to function without Bo running it. When you figure how many TD's Bo accounts for, it's most of our entire Offense.

Canzano: Oregon coach Dan Lanning not Interested in Auburn Opening
Mic replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
A snapshot today. It'll change next week. One big reason I think Dan Lanning might be reluctant to leave is that he has a pretty good staff put together right here. If he were to leave for some place like Auburn (or another team) he'll need to put together another a whole new staff all over again. He has less risk, career-wise, and more up-side potential in the near term by staying right here. For now. -
How the Passing Game of the Huskies Can Bite the Ducks
Mic replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The Beavers made Penix's game difficult and held them to 24 points. If Oregon can do as well and still score in the 40's, they'll not only cover the spread (not important) but put the 'beatdown' on the Huskies fans want. I think it'll be tough game for the Ducks because I think the Beavers have a better defense than O. Their problem was they can't score like the Ducks and they continue to lose close, lower scoring games. We should probably expect UW to score more points than 24 and O needing 40+ to win. GO DUCKS! -

Nope, late evening start. If this were set for 12:30 then perhaps. We just set the clocks back, it'll be getting dark just after end of the 1st qtr. But it'll be a big crowd, all right.
