Women's basketball transfer Skyler Gill will not play at Oregon North Alabama transfer Skyler Gill will not play basketball at Oregon, sources have told DuckTerritory.com. The decision comes about two months after she announced her commitment to join the program back on June 1. Gill has already been removed from the official 2023-24 roster, and is no longer enrolled at the university. Gill was twice the Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Year, and was expected to improve Oregon's defensive prowess over her two seasons of remaining eligibility. She blocked 3.0 shots per game over 53 outings with the Lions despite standing at just 5-foot-11 in height. The team now carries 11 scholarship players on its roster ahead of the 2023-24 season. Gill had been one of four Division 1 transfers brought in to help build out the roster this season. Oregon Extends Contract With Dan Lanning Through 2028
Pennsylvania Duck replied to a topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Contract details emerge for Dan Lanning's extension with Oregon Ducks On Tuesday evening, it was reported by columnist John Canzano that the Oregon Ducks had signed head coach Dan Lanning to a contract extension that would keep him with the team through the 2028 season while also making him one of the 15-20 highest-paid coaches in the world of college football. Now we have more clarification on what the numbers behind the contract actually are. According to The Oregonian’s James Crepea, Lanning’s extension has brought his yearly salary from $4.7 million to $7 million, increasing by $200,000 each year through 2028. Lanning’s original contract with the Ducks, which was approved back in December of 2021, was for six years, $29.1 million making him the fifth-highest-paid coach in the Pac-12 conference. He earned $4.6 million in salary last season, plus $100,000 for winning nine regular season games and $100,000 for appearing in the Holiday Bowl. Oregon and Washington 'hold all of the cards' in Pac-12 realignment talks, per ESPN The topic of further conference realignment has been held at bay over the past several months with the claim that any further movement was only “rumors” or “speculation.” It felt like water was building up and the dam holding it all back was starting to crack with every day that passed without a new TV deal for the Pac-12. On Wednesday evening, the dam was breached with the report that the Colorado Buffaloes are fleeing for the Big-12, a move that will be voted on and likely announced later this week. Now the biggest question is how extensive the damage will be, and how many teams end up leaving the Pac-12 before the dam can be rebuilt. For fans of the Oregon Ducks and Washington Huskies, that’s a pertinent question that many fans in their own area are split on. Both schools have aspirations of making it to the “big boy’s table” and moving to the Big Ten to play alongside USC, UCLA, Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State. But will this Colorado detraction be enough movement to get them the leverage that they need to jump ship out west? Or does the Pac-12 still have enough juice to try and smooth the surface and keep its nine teams in place? Oregon Ducks, Washington Huskies have leverage in Pac-12 realignment DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM With the topic of conference realignment back on the table, the Oregon Ducks and Washington Huskies “hold all of the cards” per...

Three things the Pac-12 needs to do in order to survive Colorado to the Big 12 Colorado making the jump to the Big 12 has potential to be the nail in the coffin. One year removed from USC and UCLA announcing their intentions to leave the Pac-12 for the Big Ten, Colorado is now set to be leaving the conference for the Big 12. A move that not only takes the wind out of whatever momentum the Pac-12 had going in their media rights negotiations, but could be a domino that ends up contributing to the collapse of the conference all together. The reason for this being the fact that whenever the Pac-12 expansion was discussed, the conference made it very clear they were focused on their media rights deal first. Something that makes sense if there were signs of progress, but as of last week when Colorado asked to see numbers there were none. This news has sent the college football world into a frenzy, which is why I've decided to break down the three things that the Pac-12 absolutely must do in order to survive. Oregon a finalist for 5-star guard Cam Scott The Oregon Ducks are a finalist for one of the nation's best shooting guards. Dana Altman and the Oregon Ducks are a finalist for one of the nation's top prospects in the 2024 recruiting class as the 5-star announced his final group of schools, plus a date in which he'd issue a verbal commitment. 5-star shooting guard Cam Scott of Lexington (S.C.) was on campus in June for an official visit to Oregon. A month later the Ducks along with Auburn, Alabama, South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Texas made the cut for the schools he'll be choosing between. Scott announced he'd also give a verbal commitment on August 11th at 11 a.m. PT. "It was a great visit with me just getting to know the coaches," Scott said to 247Sports after a visit to Oregon. "I already had a previous relationship with Chuck Martin because he is from South Carolina. Meeting the coaching staff and getting to hoop with the players was pretty fun. It is one of the spots I can see myself at." Oregon assistant coach Chuck Martin was one of his recruiters, but Martin has since left Oregon for Kentucky. Oregon assistant coach Mike Mennenga has also been involved in the recruitment of Scott and the entire Oregon staff has picked up their involvement following Martin's departure. Saturday marked the conclusion of summer workouts, and with it came the annual trek to the summit of Spencer's Butte to commemorate Spencer Webb. A good portion of Oregon's football roster is now enjoying time away from Eugene. After a full offseason of strength and conditioning, this week provides down time to be with family and friends back home before the schedule spikes in just a few days time. Many of those who remain in Eugene will be on hand to support Oregon's staff this Saturday for the program's Saturday Night Live (SNL) camp inside Autzen Stadium. More details will be shared once the event grows closer. Since its inception under Willie Taggart in 2018, the event has acted as the school's the premier summer recruiting event. It will feature many of the program's top targets in the 2024, 2025 and 2026 classes. Instruction during the day will be led Oregon's coaching staff, providing the recruits unique access to Division-1 training, and coaches opportunity to further relationships with top targets. Oregon will hold its own media day a few days later on July 31. Head coach Dan Lanning and quarterback Bo Nix are expected to speak first in a traditional press conference format before approximately 40 members of Oregon's team will field questions in a small group setting. Fall camp will begin shortly after that. The first day of practice is set for next Wednesday (Aug. 2), and will provide media members their first glimpses of this year's team in full. Given that nearly two-dozen scholarship players have joined the program since spring, the first week of fall will feature many new faces. Fall camp will run through the month of August before the team opens the 2023 season on Sept. 2 with a home game against Portland State. Before you know it, football will be back... With season on the horizon, next week a busy one for Oregon football 247SPORTS.COM Three major calendar landmarks will hit the Oregon football program over the next week as the summer comes to a close.

Kenny Dillingham's time in the Arizona State QB meeting room is a whirlwind. He's built his career on mentoring players like Jordan Travis and Bo Nix, but as the first-year head coach of the Sun Devils, his time with the QBs has to be short and sweet. He's there maybe 10 minutes, and he flicks through a dozen or so clips of film, peppering his quarterbacks with questions. Where's the safety? Where's the free rusher? Which direction should you shift protection? Football knowledge is almost ancillary to the discussion. It's all a math problem, really -- a pretty simple one, at that. "There's a lot of people who want to sound smart, and they think if other people don't know what they know, then they remain powerful," Dillingham said. "My goal is if we have a freshman here, by the time he's a senior, he should know everything I know." Bronny James has Heart Attack

Jon Gold: Bronny James does not deserve to be anybody's poster child It’s not a normal thing to hear a mother describe the death of her son. It stays with you as a reporter. It can haunt you. It’s even stranger to hear a mother describe her son’s rebirth. Yet that’s where I found myself in December 2016, standing outside a hospital room in Tucson with Heather Cunningham. Her son, Craig, was a center for the Tucson Roadrunners, a team captain before the new franchise had dropped its first puck, an NHL pro for parts of 4 seasons anticipating his call-up back to the show after scoring 13 points in the franchise’s first 11 games. On Nov. 19, with the Moose in town visiting from Manitoba, Cunningham skated out for the opening faceoff. Just after a Scottish bagpipe and drum band had finished a rousing rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, the then 26-year-old, in the prime of his life, collapsed in a heap on the ice. Twitter reacts to Justin Herbert's mega contract extension with Chargers Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is not a fan of being in the spotlight, but he got the shine on Tuesday afternoon after signing a massive $262.5 million contract extension that ties him to the team through 2029. Herbert is the latest QB in the NFL to sign a mega five-year deal, and he is now among the highest-paid players in the league. That makes sense, with Herbert growing to be one of the most talented passers in the NFL, though the playoff accolades have managed to elude him in his three years since leaving the Oregon Ducks. However, with Kellen Moore going to Los Angeles as the new offensive coordinator, there is a hope that things will turn around. Regardless of the outcome, there was some celebration from Chargers, Ducks, and NFL fans at large on Tuesday as they news was announced. Here are some of the best reactions. Four-Star '25 QB Bear Bachmeier talks recent offers and previews upcoming visit to Oregon Coming off scholarship offers from Alabama and Notre Dame, Oregon will host one of the nation's top junior signal callers this weekend. Murrieta Valley (Calif.) junior quarterback Bear Bachmeier is set to check out the Oregon Ducks this weekend. Bachmeier is one of the top quarterbacks in the ’25 class. He’s rated the No. 153 prospect nationally in the 247Sports Composite and No. 243 in the Top247. He put up big numbers as a sophomore, throwing for 2,853 yards with 26 touchdowns with just four interceptions while rushing for another 644 yards and 18 score. He’s a true dual-threat quarterback who can stress a defense with his arm or his legs. Often times the term, ‘dual-threat’ is used to define a quarterback who’s more advanced as a runner but Bachmeier is a legitimate pocket passer and would still be highly touted even if he couldn’t run around and make the plays he does. The Ducks will see over 50 newcomers join the program for the 2023 season and head coach Dan Lanning is confident they'll blend in well with the program's loaded returners. The Oregon offseason has been all about developing team chemistry and forging relationships so that when the games start in the fall teammates trust one another and know one another better. Mix in a handful of redshirt freshmen who saw limited action last year and the Ducks have over half their team as newcomers. Leaning on their veteran leadership will be critical to Oregon's success. "I hope a big one. We have over 45 newcomers on scholarship, almost over 50 players on our team that are new to our roster, and you hope that they do a great job of transitioning in with the guys that we already have here," said head coach Dan Lanning. "Some great veteran leadership that exists on our team." Lanning noted he's started to see his program's leaders push their way into developing the newcomers. Jeffrey Bassa 'confident' in his body after offseason weight gain Playing inside linebacker at 212 pounds didn't feel sustainable to Jeffrey Bassa. It felt "unrealistic", he told DuckTerritory.com at Friday's Pac-12 Media Day in Las Vegas, to grow as a player without physically growing too. At Mountain West Conference (MWC) Media Days last week, commissioner Gloria Nevarez addressed the elephant in the room. After a month of stress by fans and media over a series of letters sent between SDSU and the MWC, whose only practical result was an extension of the June 30th deadline, the commissioner ended all drama. “As it relates to San Diego State, I am proud to report that earlier this week, we came to a resolution, and San Diego State will continue to be a member in good standing to the 23-24 season,” Nevarez said. Absent from Nevarez’s words was any mention of SDSU in the MWC beyond 2024. When pressed about why she narrowed her remarks to include only this academic year, Nevarez sounded incredulous that a follow-up was asked. The reason she did not mention the Aztecs remaining in the conference in 2024-2025 is obvious. If extended an invitation by the Pac-12, there is no monetary reason to stay in the MWC beyond this year. For further info from the article, click here.

Bill Oram: Oregon Ducks could cut corners with beach volleyball team because it’s beach volleyball. And that is exactly the problem Come on, it’s just beach volleyball. That’s surely what the defenders of Oregon athletics are saying this week, after an exhaustive investigation by The Oregonian/OregonLive revealed just how neglectful the university has been of its lowest-funded program relative to its more prestigious sports. But character, as they say, is what you do when no one is looking. And the fact that the University of Oregon pinches pennies with a program most Ducks fans likely never knew existed is what makes this so disappointing. Institutions cut corners in the shadows because that is where they can get away with it. The Oregonian/OregonLive found that even though the NCAA allots six beach volleyball scholarships per school, Oregon’s team is the only program at any public university in the Power Five conferences not to fund scholarships for its athletes. In any sport. That is a tough fact for Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens to defend. Bill Oram: Oregon Ducks could cut corners with beach volleyball team because it’s beach volleyball. A mass exodus of Pac-12 football officials earlier this offseason saw five referees leave the conference to pursue other avenues. One retired and four resigned — three of which are now working for the Big Ten Conference. The abrupt exits made headlines back in April, and three months later, Pac-12 Senior Associate Commissioner Merton Hanks says the conference has a handle on everything. “We are excited. We have a wonderful group of officials. Moving forward I think this group, to address the elephant in the room, so to speak, we had a number of officials as independent contractors decide to take their opportunities elsewhere,” Hanks said during Pac-12 Media Day earlier this week in Las Vegas. “We took that opportunity, quite frankly, to reposition our great talent.” I remember there were many comments last season on OBDF regarding bad Pac-12 officiating. Lanning, Nix excited to face former Duck OC Kenny Dillingham this fall Dan Lanning didn't mince his words when he expressed his desired outcome for this fall's game in Tempe. His fondness for new Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham, who was Oregon's offensive coordinator a year ago, won't lessen the beatdown he hopes to put on the Sun Devils on Nov. 18. "When you play him it's gonna be like playing your brother. Like if I was playing my brother in basketball right now, I'd want to whoop his butt. That's the goal," Lanning said at Friday's Pac-12 Football Media Day in Las Vegas. "But Kenny's a competitor too, and he's a great coach. Obviously, he's familiar with that area that's home for him. I think he'll do great things with the Sun Devils." Oregon's quarterback shared a similar sentiment when was asked about facing Dillingham this fall. Like Lanning, Bo Nix has a longstanding relationship with the former Duck coach. He acted as Nix's first collegiate offensive coordinator at Auburn, and played a major role in bringing him west last year. "First of all, he was one of the biggest reasons I came to Oregon to begin with. He taught me so much throughout the season, about life, about football, coverages, offense, scheme," Nix said.
