I don’t have much faith in “valuations” without actual data on earnings. High “valuation” estimates strikes an emotional trigger and generates clicks. But I would treat them like Monopoly money, complete fiction. Let’s stop treating NIL valuations like actual earnings WWW.SPORTSBUSINESSJOURNAL.COM When I began as an NIL educator more than three years ago, I never thought name, image, likeness would serve as a case study in how our beliefs can be influenced by repetition and source...

First Round of 2024 Playoffs Were an Unmitigated Disaster
Pocketchange replied to mikethehiker's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I like it! I had an extra weekend to hang out with friends, have some good food, a a couple of stout beers. As for the format, we found out the right teams got in and on no earth should a 3 loss team from any conference get in. Any conference has about 2-3 really good teams in their conferences. The two issues I have with the CFP so far is the seeding (I think that subject has already been brought up) and I would rather have had next top team in the B12 in the quarter finals that Tennessee or Indiana. Going forward I would like to see a 3 team cap on the amount of teams a conference can submit to the playoff -
Are Duck Fans Suffering from PTSD?

I happen to think that Randy the Plumber has an accurate take on how other teams view going against Oregon. -
So...How Does This Win Make You Feel?

This is the best I have seen the ducks all season, both on offense and defense. -
It is Ridiculous that Miami is Above Georgia in the CPF Rankings
Pocketchange replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
If Miami wins today, they have done what Georgia has failed to do. Win games. I don’t know which team is better than the other. However, Miami is more deserving to be in the CFB with a better seeding because they won their games and are at the top of their conference. -
So, Who is the Best Team in the SEC?
Pocketchange replied to David Marsh's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It’s not Alabama -
I’m such a negative Nelly. We have a solid offense, it’s good, however the metrics and the eye test are not lying to us. Our defense and passing attack are winning the games. We can especially see the underperformance on 4th downs, 2 point conversions, and red zone conversions. This offense certainly doesn’t match Coach Lanning’s personality.

The Enemy of Your Employer: Oregon Football
Pocketchange replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I may have spent a little time trolling THE Ohio States by calling them a bunch of soft-batched cookies for all of the whining I have seen on Twitter. -
Spitting on a player is vulgar and unacceptable. However, the punishment should NOT be anymore harsh than a player intentionally spearing someone in the head. Holden was ejected from a game, accepted responsibility, apologized, and had off field discipline. Way more punishment than a spear that could break someone’s neck.

This Intentional Penalty is Next Level Coaching
Pocketchange replied to David Marsh's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think people are overreacting to this for three reasons: 1.Any change to the rules will likely be exploited more than this. 2. How often is burning 4 seconds more valuable than limiting yardage? 3. It is a risky play This is certainly not any worse than committing a PI to prevent a touchdown or hurrying a play to prevent a replay -
So Many Doubters...Lanning Wins a B1G One!
Pocketchange replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Hell yeah! Great Game! -
I think that a lot of doom and gloom about OBD is overblown. Our defense is playing lights out. However, our offense often looks like it struggles to go down the field. It’s as if we have great players and a scheme that works against them. Secondly, this is the second year in a row the ducks were not prepared to play from day one.

Oregon Fans Reappraise Expectations, or NOT?
Pocketchange replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This might be a little harsh but my expectations went from questions about how are we going to beat Ohio state? Is Dillon Gabriel going to win the Heisman? What second stringers are we going to see play on cupcakes? to How does Oregon plan to beat the beavers when our offense play calling and online is awful Is it the Oregon standard to fail to be ready to play day 1? At what game is Gabriel going to have a career ending injury because of Stein’s play calling and Terry’s Oline? How on earth did Lanning fail to realize that the offense is playing atrociously and not correct it before the game? with the talent and resources put into the football team there is no excuse for the offense to play flat against Idaho and Boise at home. With these players, this schedule, and our opponents, we should be excited about playing in the national title game not worried about why the coach’s can’t move the ball on average teams. -
How much of that “valuation” is actual money and how much is imaginary?

I don’t see a reason for him to go. Coach lanning has everything he needs here to go to the national championship and play at the highest level. He has the next three years of QB’s in place and his personnel. His family likes it here and even though he lost to the huskies 3 times, we love him. There is nothing but downside to a move to Alabama. He would have to move his family, work to put his culture in place, and deal with a hostile fan base and athletic department it you don’t win quickly. Meaning he could be moving his family again in the next 4 years if things don’t go well. This seems like a high risk move with little upside other than the name “Alabama”. He has everything he needs to do what he wants here without the risk.

Mike Farrell Has a Solution to Opt-Outs
Pocketchange replied to Steven A's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
So … bankrupt players if they don’t play a meaningless bowl game? Just wow. Jonathan Smith, Mario Cristobal, and Kenny Dillingham get to get a pay raise to leave during the season but you want to bankrupt every player that doesn’t play in the “SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl”? I am on the other side of this argument. Because of player empowerment which includes NIL, the extra year of development due to COVID, and the transfer portal we have had the most magical season of football yet. We had 7 teams that could legitimately could be in the playoffs this year. Has that ever happened? The majority of labor relations changes in football has made the game better. If we want bowl games to matter we need to move the transfer portal dates, make the bowl games part of the award’s criteria, make coaches sit out 3 years if they leave the team before a bowl game, and lastly fill the seats of bowl game’s stadiums. -
Don’t be to hard on Mari no O. He helped Rutgers win their first bowl since 2014.
