  1. Definitely worth a scholarship. The question is, Did MC have a scholarship to give? If we want JTT, do we have a scholarship to give him if he wants it? Who else will we miss out on if we have no scholarships to give? That's the problem with a larger class: you have to make decisions based on probabilities and unknowns. It's definitely an area that hindsight is 20/20 and it's impossible to know beforehand what you will have in the end to give.
  2. On the question of the article: IF MC cost JH the first over all pick in the draft, I say, "Good for him!" I also say that, if he did, Herbert owes MC a debt of thanks. For a QB, it is not necessarily good to be drafted #1. For several reasons: 1) You are being drafted by a team that has a lot more problems that at QB. The Chargers were mostly together as functional team. 2) The expectations of the fan base is that you will come in and save the team (which is totally unrealistic) and almost dooms you to disappoint - at least on that point. The expectation for Herbert his first year with the Chargers was to sit on the bench most of the year. 3) Your offensive line is not going to be the best, and this is not good for your long term success at staying upright. JH stayed upright all year. 4) The money difference between #1 and #6 is not all that huge. My money is on Herbert making a lot more money than the #1 pick when their second contract comes around. If he has as good a year next year as he did this year, the Chargers might not wait 4 or 5 years to give him a raise. 5) Speaking of money, more success means more endorsements. You don't get that success and those endorsements playing for the worst team in the NFL. For my final argument, I will simply quote BigDucksFan: Being the No. 1 pick in the draft is not necessarily the best of possibilities. So, Mario Cristobal, if you ARE responsible for Justin Herbert being picked sixth and not first, I just want to say, "Thank you! Good job!"
  3. Hindsight says he was smart not to take the first deal out of the box. Having a ROY year and almost every record in rookie NFL history has got to help the bottom line.
  4. That would be nice. Aren't you the guy that decides all these things in the NCAA? I would vote for you.
  5. This is why I am so underrated... I'm committed to Oregon.
  6. Let's not forget that USC stole one of our best recruiters. He made an immediate impact.
  7. Hopefully, they will be ready to go with any rust getting knocked off early in the game. Hope to see WR tonight.
  8. One of the things that made DAT so explosive is that CK used him so sparingly as a runner, lining up in the backfield, doing a "regular" run. Two carries in the Rose Bowl, both for very long touchdowns. A reporter pointed out the stat to CK after the game and he said, "Yeah, maybe I should give him the ball more often." He didn't... much. In DAT's last year, when he became the "every down back" (¿for lack of a better option?) he was not nearly as effective. People on this board were criticizing the coaches for running him so much. One person here said that he was being "thrown around like a rag doll" - and he was a couple times the game before it was written.
  9. But isn't that the way it IS??? We still may agree on everything you know about just because I wasn't stating my opinion. Starting with "On the other hand..." I was just describing the way things actually seem to work in the current situation and gave some assumed rational for it. So, if I guessed right and this is pretty much how things work, I guess the regular season has already been diminished that much further and maybe that is what all the ruffled Duck feathers is about. It is my opinion, however, that the current situation is ideal for the likes of Dana Altman who seems to take a long time to get the team to be a team, but once they are...... LOOK OUT!!!! His teams seem to always start out slow but pick up momentum as the season wears on. Two years ago, that saved us. Bill Walton was vocally advocating for the Ducks to be included, but they were on the outside looking in before they one the PAC Tournament.
  10. So, instead of cancelling the conference tournament, how about we get on a soapbox and advocating for calling teams the Tournament Champions and the Conference Champions?? On the other hand, if every conference has a tournament and each tournament's champion is automatically in the National Tournament, then, the fact of the matter is that the start of the conference tournaments is really the start of the National Tournament, and EVERYONE IS IN. Say what? Every single team in the country is in the National Tournament. What is wrong with that idea? Once the teams are honed to 64, it is single elimination after that. #1 seeds don't get a second chance if they fall to a #16 seed just because they are obviously the better team. The National Tournament starts with some single elimination rounds -- they are called the conference tournaments. Then, an all wise committee (*cough* *hack*) decides to invite several more teams that were initially eliminated but worthy to join the party so the tournament can continue with an even 64 teams (just so they can have more games and make more money). (Okay, so there are a couple more play in games). With the previous losers added to the mix, the National Tournament continues in single elimination fashion until a National Champion is crowned. If this is the way it works, nobody, but NOBODY can complain that they were left out. It is all decided on the court. Can we say that about NCAA football?
  11. COVID Concerns: Should Conference Basketball Tournaments be Cancelled? The fact that we are even having this conversation is proof that a "normal spring practice" in Football is an impossibility. This, of course, is very upsetting, because we all just want it to be OVER. A year later COVID Concerns is still a hot topic. The Good News: We do have vaccinations available that are being rolled out as fast as possible. According to the Oregon Health Authority, my wife and I should be able to get the first immunization shot by the middle of March, the second one by the middle of April. That means we will have a 95% chance of not having to worry about this personally by the beginning of summer. I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL SUMMER!!! Of course I can. It's just what people say. Squarely on topic: The Ducks should go if they need the PAC 12 tournament to get into the dance.
  12. Because sometimes, you have a lousy regular season trying to get everyone to play together and truly "buy in". But you have one of the best finishing coaches in the NCAA, who, if given enough time with his team, will eventually pull them all together to make a deep run. SO, even though you are a very low seed in the PAC 12 tournament you GO because it is your ONLY CHANCE at getting an invitation to the Dance. You go, you win it, and then you go to the tournament in spite their disrespecting you with a 12th seed (which, by the way, means they thought that 47 teams in the tournament were better than you). At the tournament, you make a deep run into the Sweet 16 where you are finally ousted by the team that eventually won the NCAA National Championship. That's why you go to the PAC 12 tournament.
  13. So, I read the list, took a look at reality, and came away with the idea that this guy is good enough to be making MONEY at this. He should be writing articles for SI and guest speak on ESPN about the upcoming draft. Could he be any farther off than what some people said about Herbert's draft stock last year???
  14. Well, I guess they can claim a "Mythy" half championship... for not showing up at the deciding North game and not showing up at the championship game... But if they coulda, they woulda; and if they woulda... they shoulda, woulda, coulda won the championship.
  15. In what kind of world does a team win a conference by not showing up for the deciding game - the only away game of the season?????? They probably also thought that they won the PAC 12 championship game by not showing up for it.
  16. I successfully signed up and I haven't even won the lottery yet. Very disappointed. Uh... what? I have to buy a ticket????? but that cost MONEY! Thanks for letting me post Charles! I hope all the glitches get lost forever!
  17. Rose Bowl should be the goal... not just getting there but WINNING it.
