  1. I only remember three 4-star QB's Jake Rodrigues and Morgan Mahalak and Travis Jonsen. J-Rod transferred with Bennet because of MM, and then Mahalak and Jonsen got jumped in fall camp by Herbs for QB2 and they bailed. I can't say Frost failed when three 4-star QB's bailed out because of two high 1st round QB's won the job. Didn't Forst have a good QB at UCF when they went undefeated? McKenzie Militon? dude had bad leg injury? edit.. I forgot to reply to the Adams comment you made. VA would have got a Heisman invite to NY if he didn't get hurt. His pass per yards, passer rating was in line with MM and he would have had well over 100 more completions, 1000 yards and 10 more TD's if he played the whole season. So, i have a hard time blaming Frost for not having a guy who could beat him out. But I do get your point, Frost never really MADE his own guy, he took good QB's and had success.
  2. Helf was with Dirk Koetter at Bosie where Koetter got his first head coaching job after being the Ducks OC for two years under Bellotti. Helf followed Koetter to ASU as the QB coach and eventually became OC. Those ASU teams had some good offense and Helf's QB Andrew Walters rocked and went the NFL and set Pac records. Then Bellitti hired Helf back to Oregon as his QB coach and Chip then made Helf his OC. Certainly, Helf lacked as a head coach. But Belotti, Dirk Koetter and Chip thought super highly of Helf as a QB coach offensive mind, and those rates in my book.
  3. I just wrote an article a week ago that I had to look up Chips stuff on Wiki. Chip was never listed as a QB coach at any of his stops, and they always seem to have that stuff listed. So, if the information I read was wrong then, I could be wrong. Chip was almost 20 years in coaching before he became an OC, and was never a QB coach before that. It did blow my mind to see Chip was the DC at John Hopkins in the early 90's.
  4. I agree, Helf is a solid QB coach. Scott Frost became the OC-QB coach when Helf took the head coach job, and he is a pretty dang good QB coach too. After Frost left, we hired David Yost the Blonde-haired Surfer Dude (Spicoli looking) from Wazzu. He was topflight QB coach as he put Chase Daniles and another QB into the NFL out of Missouri. Taggart cut him loose and that was a HUGE mistake to me. He ended up at Utah State as the OC-QB under Matt Wells and then moved to Texas Tech when Wells got the job. In 2018 Yost was a semifinalist for the Broyles award as the OC for Texas Tech and we had Arroyo and the Broken Pistol. Just think if we'd have had Yost with Herbs............... Edit.. Blaine Gabbert was the other QB at Missouri Yost worked with and then Jordan Love at Utah State who the Packers drafted 1st round in 2020 to be Rodger's replacement someday. Just think if Willie had kept Yost as his QB coach and then Mario had made Yost his OC how things could have been.
  5. Helf was MM's QB coach, so he looked awesome that first spring game because of Helf, not Chip. Chip Kelly has never been a QB coach, ever. Chip started as a DB-Special teams coach, Was RB coach 3 years a New Hampshire and even spent one year as a DC. Chip later became the OC at New Hampshire but he has never been a QB coach. Helf was also the OC of the Chicago Bears for two years in like 2018-19.
  6. Helf was the QB coach for Masoli, Thomas and MM his first two years before Helf took the head coaching job. Helf was a QB coach at Bosie St going back to like 2000 or so and then bounced around other Pac schools until he landed at Oregon. So Helf had about a decade in as a QB coach when he came to Oregon. Helf saw MM play at an Oregon camp, flew to Hawaii to watch him practice and he called Chip and got the green light to offer MM a Scholly on the spot. Helf also recruited and signed Herbs. I'd hire Helf as an OC-QB coach 366 days a year!
  7. I'll take 4 stars like him on the OL all day long.
  8. Canzano brought lot of Webb's back story many Duck fans probably didn't know, it's a powerful article.
  9. Comprehensive plan. recruit them, develop them, have a scheme that lets you exploit that talent. Mario, do you hear me?
  10. I respectfully disagree. If Flowe is healthy and plays as the prospect he was RATED to be, he won't be a late pick or UDFA. A talent like Flowe that late is like winning the Lottery! Flowe was rated just above Sewell let's keep that in perspective. He is also playing for some Cat named Dan Lanning this year who got a dude or two into the NFL last year, I think. Plus, plenty of scouts are going be watching Sewell this year and get eyes on Flowe. Flowe was a projected high draft pick, and we won't see 32 NFL GM's let that kind of talent drop to the bottom of the draft or out of it to be a UDFA. Flowe is a top 2 rounds prospect based on his physical build, speed, motor he plays with. Flowe at the NFL combine is going to STAND OUT against all but maybe three other LB's
  11. Flowe was the #1 rated linebacker and #8 rated player over all in his class on Rivals. His broken foot last year is the same type of fifth metatarsal break that Derrick Henry had happen and the Titans didn't waive Henry! Flowe also tore his meniscus his first year, and not an ACL that has more recovery time and can have less stability after recovery. If he stays healthy all season and Balls out, there is NO WAY some team doesn't take him as a high draft pick. If you're an NFL team that needs an impact LB then you are going to have to take a long think about passing on him when there were only two 5-star LB's in his class on the 247 Composite and only 6 rated inside the top 100. Flowe could be a perennial future All-Pro LB
  12. This is a great take and in line with what Charles was saying. Dilly should focus on having fun teaching the game of football, enjoy the moment and go play to win. I agree with you both, focus on the outcome you want to achieve!
  13. I appreciate the thank you! This is my second article, and Charles aka Mr. FishDuck has invested a ton of his time into me. I think people would be amazed if they took a look behind the scenes with the incredible amount of work he puts into parts of this site. I also want to thank my editor Bob Rodes for his help already and in the future. I will contribute another 4 articles at least in the next 6 weeks, and I'm able to do that only because of the mentorship being provided to me Mr. FishDuck.
  14. This is Dillys Eight Mile moment- "you only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow"....... Dilly has a shot to join the QB Guru club if he pulls this off. Top QB recruits' go to guys with proven track records Therre is reason Quinn Ewers transferred to Texas and Arch Manning just committed and its Coach SARK. He was at USC as the QB coach for Palmer, LIenart,, Sanchez, then at Bama with Tua and Mac Jones. Lincoln Riley put Mayfield, Murry, Hurts all in the NFL. Now he has Caleb Willimas and Malichi Nelson coming for 2023. Kilff Kingsbury had Jonny Football, Mayfield his freshman year, Mahomes, David Webb, if he was still in college, he would be getting 5- star QB's Davis Cutcliffe had Heath Schuler, P. Manning as OC at Tennessee, then as HC at Old Miss he got E. Manning and he just had Danile Jones at Duke.
  15. Bo Nix's second year at Auburn he had Chad Morris as his OC. Morris is the Guy who started the Clemson tempo spread offence. Taj Boyd was 2 time All-ACC and won ACC player of the year, he threw for over 10K yards and 100 TD's. Morris also recruited Deshaun Watson and was at Clemson through his freshmen year. Morris went back to Texas and took the Allen High School job after one year and then Nix had Mike BoBo as his OC-OB coach and he is no slouch. Point is, Bi Nix has had good coaching and this is the year he needs to make a jump. I feel it's all on Bo.
  16. Well in 5 years when Congress holds hearings on college NIL, Media/Super Conference monopolies he can be a star witness and tell his sob story while he is still making NFL millions.
  17. Cold calling and Phil Knight is an oxymoron. Is there anyone on the planet who answers their phone to find its Phil Knight and think, this guy is cold calling me?
  18. Dilly got swag we are too old to have. But I love how he did that! 100% we got Donte Moore tomorrow! If I'm wrong, I'll drink a shot poured into Justin Flowe;'s cleat when we win the Natty next year! A cleat shot!
  19. Oh Boy, you got another gripe of mine brought up. DeRut was terrible and I think part of it was Mario. We would sit Base Defense pre-snap and then run base on the play. Look at the first two series UCLA went right down the field and put us down 14-0. Then we started putting LB's up in the gaps on the line and dropping them. Showing base and bring the backers, running stunts and held them scoreless the next two quarters. Same deal with Stonybrook, late in that game we finally started stunting and blitzing. It was like Mario wanted DeRut to stay base unless we needed to show more, like Mario wanted to hide away our blitz packages in our back pocket. It drove me nuts at times, it was TERRIBLE! EDIT: it was more of Marios "never put a team away early that you should when you could be in tight game with them late" type stuff.
  20. Good post! Brady Breeze is a sore topic for me! I don't think it was scheme to me it was poor coaching decision on the depth chart, and I put that on safeties and CO DC Keith Hayward. They just played Pickett over Breeze and Pickett was as physical as a girl scout in the run game, but they thought he was better in pass defense and longer. Pickett got hurt in an early season game during 2018 and Breeze got in and was INSTANLY LIGHTS OUT! The scheme didn't change mid game or season, Breeze the better player just got into the game and Balled out. So, Breeze played in 9 games in 2018. In 2019 they would split game reps with the two, but Breeze showed he was way better than Pickett. It became apparent Breeze was good in the passing game and was next level reading run plays and coming up to lay the wood. I will say after Pickett got jumped, I saw him improve his run game work and start to actually hit people, sorta.. haha
