Charles gives keen insight, bringing an amazing article that informs and educates the reader. If you want to understand Lanning's scheme approach while seeing how its deployed, then this article is for you. Don't miss it and be left behind. I was floored reading it. ASU is a dumpster fire first and at the bottom of the Pac-12 -- and it's a long way to get to being in the top half of the pac-12 for that program. Dilly is in his first season as an OC out from under a head coach mentor in Norvell and Malzhan. I think he is better served staying at Oregon and proving he can field an elite offense alone under out from under offensive HC wings. By doing that he will build up Cred that will help him draw in sone decent coaching staff. He isn't a Broyles award finalist Coordinator coming off a Natty like Lanning. I also think if he waits, he can get a better gig that's not a dumpster fire.

Stanford's Upgraded Offense: 'The Slow Mesh RPO' ?
DazeNconfused replied to DazeNconfused's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Great post. It will be interesting to see how Lanning schemes for this. This is something we haven't seen yet. Post a link to the video if you would. I kept the videos short in the OP as to give readers a quick look and not drag their time out. -

Stanford's Upgraded Offense: 'The Slow Mesh RPO' ?
DazeNconfused posted a topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Stanford has come out of the Dark Ages and ditched its Power Run play action offense this season. They have turned to the Wake Forest "Slow Mesh RPO" Below are links for two short videos. The first is a just over 2 minutes of the Vanderbilt head coach explaining what the "Slow Mesh" is, and what it aims to achieve in attacking the defense. This video will educate you quickly and hits KEY points. The second video is a under 1 minute collection of Wake Forest running some "Slow Mesh" plays. I would suggest watching both sort videos so you can understand the challenge this "Slow Mesh" will give the Ducks defense, and you will have an idea of what 'Slow Mesh" looks like ahead of the game this Saturday. Charles and I have discussed how we expected lots of more sacks. Swinny looked amazing in the spring game and is the odd guy out, I thought he could maybe hit double digit sacks. I thought DJ could maybe hit double digit sacks. I thought with Lanning's blitz schemes we might set the team record for season sacks. I also thought Flowe and Sewell would set season highs for Sacks and TFL. We're not seeing that aggressive blitz and relentless into the backfield play I expected. Bennett Willimas and Jamall Hill have been solid though as I thought, especially in run support.

I wrote the Ducks could be Top 15 in total offense and they sit #17 with the Georgia game still dragging them down. The Ducks are right at the 40 point and 500 yards I predicted. But I missed on Cardwell being the 1000-yard feature back. I think I nailed that Nix might end up finding the game easier will all the weapons and having the most fun of his career. GO Ducks! Bo Nix Gives Oregon’s Offense New Life
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Charles, we discussed how Dilly needed to hit on one of his five stars to establish his Cred as QB whisper. I think he has done just that whit the first five-star QB up and has two to go in Thompson and Moore. Dilly will also be an attractive option to blue-chip transfer QBs that they will want to consider after he turned Bo Nix around. Bo's jump he has made under Dilly is a win in several ways for the Ducks going foward. Stable of 5-Star QB's: The Pressure is ON Coach Dillingham FISHDUCK.COM The pressure to develop the highest-rated quarterback room in Oregon football history lies squarely upon Oregon's 32-year-old offensive coordinator Kenny... -
There Is More than One Way to Coug It
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Great article Darren! The WAZZU defense was well coached and played mostly one deep safety. The redzone play we ran Seven on the fly sweep shows show well coached. When Seven went in motion the safety moved up and over into the play side Seven was heading to. The cornerback who had Seven before he went into motion filled in for the safety. It was great execution and they stopped that play cold. WAZZU's scheme gets numbers into the play along with the team speed you can't go lateral with the condensed field inside the 10-yard line. I loved the play Cam slipped put to the back of the endzone, that play was there in the first half too. I thought we could have gone over the top like you said with a fade to 6;5" Thornton as well. I think Dilly made some play calls into the strength of the WAZZU defense, but he also learned. The QB throwback he called because of the WAZZU pursuit to the play side. Dilly also came out to start the second half and went deep on WAZZU and their one deep safety. Dilly really killed them with mid-range crosses and deep balls, and that was what WAZZU was giving us. Dilly is a better play caller from what he learned from this game. -
Dillingham's Passing Attack Unveiled and Impressive
DazeNconfused replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Dilly's play calling almost cost us this game is my take. -
The WAZZU defense likes to stack a lot of defenders in the box, they have more speed than size and they run well sideline to sideline. By doing this they want to take away the run, the screen passes, any lateral run, and get into the backfield. I saw plays they had 8 and 9 defenders in the box, I saw plays all 11 men were within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. WAZZU does this scheme to get a numbers advantage and blow-up plays! A basic rule of calling plays as an OC is you take what the defense gives you. Wazzu is giving you the deep ball. The first play of the second half Dilly threw the deep ball and we hit it. We hit everything we threw 20 yards down field - bcuz that's the weak part of the WAZZU scheme. WAZZU leaves the Corners in a ton of man-to-man as a consequence of the scheme they run. The deep go routes, and deep crosses were there all day, Bo could have had 600 yards passing if we called plays right. Let's turn to the Red Zone issues in the first half and Dillys play calls. First time inside the five we ran a sneak got stuffed and then lateral plays to the edge. Those plays let WAZZU use its strength, the team speed to run the plays down. We ran a fly sweep inside the 10 that they ran down. We threw the same lateral pass to Dollars two plays in a row that ended up as a pick six. I don't recall us throwing a ball into the endzone in the first half - all redzone plays seemed to go to the sideline. It was our second or third possession that Dilly came out trips WR to one side and we ran three straight plays for around 45 yards. The trips WR took three defenders out of the box to the sideline, now WAZZU didn't have the numbers. We had the size and ran straight at them and through them. My conclusion here is Dilly ran way too many plays into the strengths of the WAZZU defensive set and scheme. To pass we should have early in the game gone deep on their corners and attack the one-on-one matchup. WAZZU would have continued to get beat or they would have to drop the safeties back into a cover two - then we could run our screens and short crosses on them. If WAZZU pulled the safeties up, then we would go back over the top of them. In the redzone we should have thrown a FADE to Thornton, Chapman, Kasper all over 6'5"- everything we ran was lateral and they stuffed it in the first half. Why didn't Dilly think attack a corner with a FADE to a big WR????? Dilly didn't keep WAZZU on a yo-yo by attacking the weak spots, WAZZU kept us on a yo-yo bcuz we ran to many plays into their strengths. To run we should have spread them out and then ran at them. No running at them from bunch formations, or power where they can stack the box. In the game thread Debbi-duck and some others were saying these things and so was I. Dilly needs to get better with his in-game calls. His scheme is strong, he just needs to be better at what plays in his scheme he attacks the defense with. It seems to me Dilly is more of a call the plays he wants to run that he likes. I want a play caller who says, "ok you going to show me that look then here is what I'm going to call to wreck it" The Ducks should have been up with a big lead at the half and not sitting on 9 points.

I'm on the Bo Nix bandwagon and I'm the guy who wrote "Beware the Bandwagon Buy In" The jump Nix has made in his play is AMAZING... this in the new Bo and here is his stat line His 72% completion that's a 12% increase from last year His 8.3 yards per attempt is 1.2 yards increase from last year His 162.4 pass rating is a 30.2 increase from last year While I was critical of Bo making a jump he has done so. I said I would be happy if he made a jump to the production level Herbs has his senior year as he kept up in the playoff mix until late. Bo has made such a jump his has surpassed Herbs senior year stats. Right now, Bo has the highest completion percentage in the Pac-12, tied fourth best passer rating. Bo is playing elite, and his pick six I blame on Kenny Dillingham for running the same pass play to the same side of the field back-to-back.

Dilly ran the same play back to back to Dollars. of course, the LBs going to read it better.. I don't understand why we dont throw a fade to Thornton of Chapman both 6'5" -

Dilly is getting beat inside the 10. you can't go lateral. throw a fade to a big WR against the Db they are leaving one on one.. Need to adjust -

Their speed is their strength - we should probably go trips to the wide side of the field and then run straight at them. That will take defenders out of the play and attack their smaller D line -

Wazzu is going to screen us to death, we have to read it and get a defender out in front of it. They also showed 8 in the box the 2nd play and we ran into it well. If they keep going 8 in the box we have to throw the ball deep -
Lanning Takes Ducks From Top-25 Beatdowns to Blowouts
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks guys. I already strongly feel if our Lanning's Ducks played Utah that it would be an entirely different game than the last two matchup's. -
This will be interesting to watch as Robby was behind Ty and Butters on the depth chart. Robby is a third-year players and was part of the 2020 class with Butters. He looked good in the 2021 Spring Game and scored the winning TD. If Robby is successful today, then we have to think Ty and Butters would be just as good if not better.

Oregon vs WSU: How Oregon’s DBs Will Win the Day
DazeNconfused replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The use of the TEs has been nice... but I'd like to see some endzone fades to Chapman-Thornton both 6'5' and Franklin 6'3".. even Kaper is 6'6" It appears Dilly isn't a endzone fade to the big WRs type guy in the Redzone
