  1. No fans should not feel compelled to donate to NIL. Being a fan is enough and one shouldn’t be made to feel guilty bc they don’t think it’s right or in their financial wheelhouse to donate to NIL. In contrast, one shouldn’t be made to feel guilty if they want to donate.
  2. I absolutely agree with you. I’m not so much trying to defend my fellow Dawg fans and their smack talk, but it is college football, and talking a little trash really does fit in with the experience. Sure you should be respectful, and I would say that most are. But if you can’t get away with talkin a little smack after your team wins a natty then when can you. I have friends that are die hard Bama, LSU, Clemson, Florida State, and even Ohio State Fans. Needless to say I’ve taken my share of ribbing over the years. Of coarse I stuck the knife in a bit this past January. I may have even twisted it a bit! It’s all in good fun. It adds to the experience. And it’s a fact, what goes around comes around eventually. I think the Ducks are on the front end of another nice run with Lanning and Co. Will they win a NC? Who knows, but I think they will certainly be contenders and have shots at it.
  3. Yes, it’s true. There are some UGA fans that are a bit delusional, and there are some that are arrogant in their views of college football. To be fair, these fans are still a bit on a high from their first NC in over 40 years. It’s ok if they are a bit arrogant for the time being. And really, most probably know very little about Oregon. They know Lanning is the coach, Bo Nix transferred in, and Utah really put it on Oregon twice last season. Many don’t believe the whispers the might have heard about Oregon being extremely talented. There are also UGA fans that have a better understanding of Oregon and the Pac-12 in general. As for me, I’m absolutely concerned about playing the Ducks. Most of the other Dawg fans I’ve seen post on this forum would likely agree. The Perception of the Pac-12 is just not good at the moment, so lazy fans just assume every team in the conference will be sub-par. As amcDawg said, win big games, put teams in the playoff and perception will change. While there are Dawg fans that take Oregon much too lightly, I think some of that will change Sept. 3. I don’t think this game will be a blowout. It’s really hard to tell though. Too many changes from last year for both teams. Time will tell.
  4. Yessir, we do talk a might different! Mindya, we don’t judge other folks for speaking incorrectly.
  5. I agree, it is high time they get deserved recognition. I’m no Utes fan but they have certainly earned respect from the rest of college football. And I must admit Billy Napier is likely to prove to be a very good power 5 Coach given time. But UF must commit to giving him time. At the moment I think Utah is the favorite.
  6. I have to agree. I grew up in South GA, and I honestly thought I didn’t have much of a southern accent when I was young. At least not when compared to others. I quickly learned when I moved out of the country, that not only did I have a definitive southern drawl, people picked up on it instantly. It was most fortuitous for me, bc I found that many people that live elsewhere really love a southern accent. I lived out of country for a number of years and it did get a bit old after awhile.
  7. Yep, not saying it’s exactly a neutral field, but the Ducks do catch a break by playing in Mercedes Benz stadium rather than Sanford Stadium. It’s likely that Utah feels the effects of summer weather in the Deep South while taking on the Gators in Gainesville. I do hope that the Utes can overcome this and handle the Gators. Don’t get me wrong, I do normally pull for the SEC. Unless that SEC team is UF or the opposing out of conference team is Oregon. I am also likely to pull for an out of conference foe if they are a big underdog and have a chance to beat an SEC team that isn’t GA. Honestly, I wish that UGA and UO could have worked out a home and home, but playing at 72 degrees does benefit all involved this time of year.
  8. I’ve heard of this before. My dad played football and he told me they specifically used orange slices at half time. He also said that during practice you didn’t get regular water breaks. The coaches would allow them to suck on wet rags for a water break. Yep, back then they thought drinking water while playing or practicing was bad for you.
  9. I agree that Nix is very capable of making plays with his legs, but not too sure it would be the wisest decision in this game. Aside from picking up a much needed first down or turning a second and long into a third and short, it might not be worth the potential consequences. If he does find success running I hope that he gets what he can and then quickly gets down or out of bounds. Otherwise he will likely take some hits that no team is comfortable with their QB taking. On the upside, Nix is familiar with GA defenses. He is probably aware of what he can and cannot get away with.
  10. It’s very encouraging to hear positive remarks about Bassa and Addison. Especially referring to player communication and being on the same page as far as knowing where you should be and knowing responsibility and recognizing the correct call on defense. With the talent the Ducks have on defense, if they can become exceptional at working together as a unit, that could be the difference in being a good defense or being a great defense. Or as Kirby puts it “becoming an Elite defense”. I don’t claim to know much about Coach Lupoi yet, I’m still learning about him. It sounds like he is taking the right approach to get the defense to maximize its potential. Like I said before, it sounds very encouraging.
  11. I agree, great interview. And honestly, I don’t see the advertisements as a problem at all. They are easy to scroll through. The only ones that ever bother me are the ones that pop up and cover the text in an article I’m trying to read, the ones I’ve come across on this forum are not annoying to me at all. No problem
  12. Very cool video. A Lanning influenced defense will pay dividends with the pressure. It is very much about disguising where the pressure is coming from and forcing the blockers to make quick reads on the fly in regards to their blocking responsibility on a given play. This leads to confusion and blocking assignments being missed. It’s also effective because even if the defense is sending just 4 to pressure, the offense can never be sure whose dropping and whose coming. Very cool. One thing Lanning did at GA to add even more confusion was have his down linemen perform very quick pre-snap shifts that often happened right before the snap. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this worked in at times. All of the options that a defense such as this affords you can make it much harder and much more stressful on an O-line.
  13. I agree, preseason rankings mean absolutely nothing. It doesn’t matter if you are overrated or underrated in a preseason poll. The truth is never far away. IMO the Ducks are not overrated, but as in most things, time will tell.
  14. Absolutely, man I can’t wait! I’ve got more questions for you, but I’ll wait for your next articles to come out and go from there.
  15. It absolutely sounds like Lanning. He is the real deal. Honestly, the spread is off IMO. It’s no wonder that UGA is definitely a favorite coming off of last season, but this spread is clearly skewed to even out the betting lines. I will be surprised if Oregon doesn’t cover the spread.
  16. Wow. 6.5 and 6.3 playing safety. Now that is interesting. I’ve enjoyed reading your articles and look forward to reading your upcoming ones. I’m very excited about Sept. 3, also nervous. I’m a fairly knowledgeable football fan and I’m not exactly sure what to expect. Folks such as yourself writing and analyzing helps with my anticipation, and helps me to see the bigger picture. Plus I’m just a huge CFB fan and I love reading good articles about teams that I like.
  17. Yes I’m familiar with DJ. I was also thinking he might be one to challenge a good TE in coverage being that he is so familiar with the position. I’ll admit this guy has play maker written all over him.
  18. As a UGA fan I can say with confidence that there is great anticipation among Dawg fans when thinking of the matchup nightmares that our TEs will give opposing defenses this season. It is warranted as GA does have a ridiculous amount of talent at TE and OC Monken has shown that he will strategically take advantage of this. Most Dawg fans think this will be a big advantage on Sept. 3. To be fair, many Dawg fans don’t realize just how talented Oregon’s defense is. Especially at linebacker. I’m not as familiar with UO defense as many Duck fans, but I’m certainly of the opinion that the D will be very much better than 2021. IMO the D will be a major strength for Oregon this season. My question to Duck fans is- Do you think the GA TEs have great impact on this game? If Monken does emphasize their use in the passing game, can the Ducks keep them contained? To be honest, my opinion of this game is similar my opinion of most big games. The team that performs best on the line of scrimmage (both sides) will have a big advantage. This likely leads to success in the run game and being able to work in other directions because of this success. In contrast, if the run game is shut down it drastically reduces options. My opinion on the TE matchups is that if UGA is somewhat successful in the run game the TEs will likely make a big impact on this game. This isn’t a slight on Oregon’s LBs or secondary at all, I honestly think any defense would have trouble handling these guys. Of coarse I might be wrong. There is the Lanning factor. Which brings me to my other question. Do you guys think that Lannings knowledge of UGA makes a big impact on this game? I think it certainly helps Oregon, how much I’m not sure.
  19. I love the confidence, I respectfully disagree but you never know. One thing I will agree on is that it would be awesome to meet again in the final game!!!
  20. It’s odd that Texas is starting out ranked in the top 20. (edit)…. It’s also odd to me that USC is starting out ranked in the top 20. I understand major changes are afoot, but they were not good last season.
  21. I’m a huge Lanning fan, and I absolutely agree that he will inspire a team to produce at a higher level than the sum of its parts. Moreover, I agree with your assessment of how he will accomplish this. Team first, accountability to each other, having fun, etc……. I apologize for referencing GA football so often in my posts here, but I do so bc it is a good point of reference for me and I think concerning CDL it is appropriate. So just one quick example that emphasizes Lannings ability to inspire a team to work together so well is how the GA defense played last season. By all accounts a defense full of ridiculous talent. That might make some think it an easy job to make an elite defense out of them. In some cases it could actually cause friction. Lanning was able to have his players really buy into the team first mentality and the idea of playing for each other. In truth no one player on that defense put up crazy stats, Travon Walker (#1 overall pick) didn’t post alarming stats. Rather he played a significant role on a great defense. And they all had fun! Given time Lanning and Co will achieve this at Oregon. One last thought, I’ve pulled for the Ducks since I was basically a kid. Never really thought of myself as a true fan but always pulled for them. For me that has changed lately, primarily for two reasons. 1 - Coach Dan Lanning becoming the Head Coach. 2 - I joined this forum and have become much more familiar with the Duck Football Program and Duck fans. Reading articles and fan posts here has been enjoyable and enlightening. I’ve enjoyed interacting with Duck fans and I consider myself a fan of the Ducks now. Albeit more in a 1.b status, as one Duck fan humorously pointed out to me, Of coarse I bleed UGA red and black. But I’m excited for the future of Duck football and I’ll be pulling for them (except Sept.3) and watching every game I can.
  22. I agree with most of what has already been posted. Especially that the Ducks will be bringing more talent to the field, have better coaching across the board, and be using more exciting and effective schemes. More specifically, I agree that the Defense will improve dramatically. Not just bc of talent and scheme, but also bc of communication. One of the reasons the GA D was so good last season was talent, but it was also bc the players were amazing at working as a unit. The players knew each other’s job as well as their own and communicated well. This helped them perform well as a team in shutting down offenses. I expect the Ducks coaching to strive for this and I expect the players to really buy into this and excel as a defensive unit. I truly expect, barring terrible injury luck, that the D will get better every week and will become a force to be reckoned with.
  23. Great article DazeNconfused!!! You have inspired many interesting and enjoyable posts to read. It’s awesome to see a thread have so many contributors interacting.
