Leadership Emerging on Duck Defense
I agree, great interview. And honestly, I don’t see the advertisements as a problem at all. They are easy to scroll through. The only ones that ever bother me are the ones that pop up and cover the text in an article I’m trying to read, the ones I’ve come across on this forum are not annoying to me at all. No problem

Watch For Lanning’s Delayed Inside Linebacker Blitz!
Very cool video. A Lanning influenced defense will pay dividends with the pressure. It is very much about disguising where the pressure is coming from and forcing the blockers to make quick reads on the fly in regards to their blocking responsibility on a given play. This leads to confusion and blocking assignments being missed. It’s also effective because even if the defense is sending just 4 to pressure, the offense can never be sure whose dropping and whose coming. Very cool. One thing Lanning did at GA to add even more confusion was have his down linemen perform very quick pre-snap shifts that often happened right before the snap. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this worked in at times. All of the options that a defense such as this affords you can make it much harder and much more stressful on an O-line.

Oregon Makes Top 5 for Overrated Teams in 2022
I agree, preseason rankings mean absolutely nothing. It doesn’t matter if you are overrated or underrated in a preseason poll. The truth is never far away. IMO the Ducks are not overrated, but as in most things, time will tell.

Bama, Ducks, Georgia Have The Most Starting Linebacker Talent In FBS
Absolutely, man I can’t wait! I’ve got more questions for you, but I’ll wait for your next articles to come out and go from there.

Bama, Ducks, Georgia Have The Most Starting Linebacker Talent In FBS
It absolutely sounds like Lanning. He is the real deal. Honestly, the spread is off IMO. It’s no wonder that UGA is definitely a favorite coming off of last season, but this spread is clearly skewed to even out the betting lines. I will be surprised if Oregon doesn’t cover the spread.

Bama, Ducks, Georgia Have The Most Starting Linebacker Talent In FBS
Wow. 6.5 and 6.3 playing safety. Now that is interesting. I’ve enjoyed reading your articles and look forward to reading your upcoming ones. I’m very excited about Sept. 3, also nervous. I’m a fairly knowledgeable football fan and I’m not exactly sure what to expect. Folks such as yourself writing and analyzing helps with my anticipation, and helps me to see the bigger picture. Plus I’m just a huge CFB fan and I love reading good articles about teams that I like.

Bama, Ducks, Georgia Have The Most Starting Linebacker Talent In FBS
Yes I’m familiar with DJ. I was also thinking he might be one to challenge a good TE in coverage being that he is so familiar with the position. I’ll admit this guy has play maker written all over him.

Bama, Ducks, Georgia Have The Most Starting Linebacker Talent In FBS
As a UGA fan I can say with confidence that there is great anticipation among Dawg fans when thinking of the matchup nightmares that our TEs will give opposing defenses this season. It is warranted as GA does have a ridiculous amount of talent at TE and OC Monken has shown that he will strategically take advantage of this. Most Dawg fans think this will be a big advantage on Sept. 3. To be fair, many Dawg fans don’t realize just how talented Oregon’s defense is. Especially at linebacker. I’m not as familiar with UO defense as many Duck fans, but I’m certainly of the opinion that the D will be very much better than 2021. IMO the D will be a major strength for Oregon this season. My question to Duck fans is- Do you think the GA TEs have great impact on this game? If Monken does emphasize their use in the passing game, can the Ducks keep them contained? To be honest, my opinion of this game is similar my opinion of most big games. The team that performs best on the line of scrimmage (both sides) will have a big advantage. This likely leads to success in the run game and being able to work in other directions because of this success. In contrast, if the run game is shut down it drastically reduces options. My opinion on the TE matchups is that if UGA is somewhat successful in the run game the TEs will likely make a big impact on this game. This isn’t a slight on Oregon’s LBs or secondary at all, I honestly think any defense would have trouble handling these guys. Of coarse I might be wrong. There is the Lanning factor. Which brings me to my other question. Do you guys think that Lannings knowledge of UGA makes a big impact on this game? I think it certainly helps Oregon, how much I’m not sure.

Dawgs Focus on Dawgs, Claim Ducks Not in Focus...Yet
I love the confidence, I respectfully disagree but you never know. One thing I will agree on is that it would be awesome to meet again in the final game!!!

First USA Today Coaches Poll, Ducks Just Miss Top 10
It’s odd that Texas is starting out ranked in the top 20. (edit)…. It’s also odd to me that USC is starting out ranked in the top 20. I understand major changes are afoot, but they were not good last season.

Watch How Happy Bradyn Swinson is with Dan Lanning...'Has Changed Team for the Better'
I’m a huge Lanning fan, and I absolutely agree that he will inspire a team to produce at a higher level than the sum of its parts. Moreover, I agree with your assessment of how he will accomplish this. Team first, accountability to each other, having fun, etc……. I apologize for referencing GA football so often in my posts here, but I do so bc it is a good point of reference for me and I think concerning CDL it is appropriate. So just one quick example that emphasizes Lannings ability to inspire a team to work together so well is how the GA defense played last season. By all accounts a defense full of ridiculous talent. That might make some think it an easy job to make an elite defense out of them. In some cases it could actually cause friction. Lanning was able to have his players really buy into the team first mentality and the idea of playing for each other. In truth no one player on that defense put up crazy stats, Travon Walker (#1 overall pick) didn’t post alarming stats. Rather he played a significant role on a great defense. And they all had fun! Given time Lanning and Co will achieve this at Oregon. One last thought, I’ve pulled for the Ducks since I was basically a kid. Never really thought of myself as a true fan but always pulled for them. For me that has changed lately, primarily for two reasons. 1 - Coach Dan Lanning becoming the Head Coach. 2 - I joined this forum and have become much more familiar with the Duck Football Program and Duck fans. Reading articles and fan posts here has been enjoyable and enlightening. I’ve enjoyed interacting with Duck fans and I consider myself a fan of the Ducks now. Albeit more in a 1.b status, as one Duck fan humorously pointed out to me, Of coarse I bleed UGA red and black. But I’m excited for the future of Duck football and I’ll be pulling for them (except Sept.3) and watching every game I can.

The Difference Between This Year and Last?
I agree with most of what has already been posted. Especially that the Ducks will be bringing more talent to the field, have better coaching across the board, and be using more exciting and effective schemes. More specifically, I agree that the Defense will improve dramatically. Not just bc of talent and scheme, but also bc of communication. One of the reasons the GA D was so good last season was talent, but it was also bc the players were amazing at working as a unit. The players knew each other’s job as well as their own and communicated well. This helped them perform well as a team in shutting down offenses. I expect the Ducks coaching to strive for this and I expect the players to really buy into this and excel as a defensive unit. I truly expect, barring terrible injury luck, that the D will get better every week and will become a force to be reckoned with.

Regarding Bo Nix: Beware ‘Bandwagon Buy-In’
I can certainly understand your concerns about Nix being named QB1, if in fact he does win the job. To date he hasn’t lived up to his 5 star rating coming out of high school. Although IMO, he has never been in a great situation for his game to flourish. He started as a true freshman, for a team that wasn’t very good at pass blocking. Not the easiest of jobs. Then he had 3 different OCs over the next 3 years. I’m sure that added to his difficulties in gaining a firm handle on things and growing as a QB. Making things even more difficult, while starting as a freshman and then changing coordinators, he was also going up against SEC defenses. Also not the easiest of jobs. Perhaps there is reason to be optimistic with Nix this season though. He will have Dillingham as OC again, I think that’s a plus. He will be playing behind a very good O-line, definitely a nice change. And while he hasn’t been spectacular in his first 3 seasons, he does have experience. Maybe things are lining up in a promising way for Bo and he can live up to former expectations.

Punter Tom Snee Away from Team...Mental Health Issues
I don’t know anything about Tom Snee, but I’m familiar with depression as someone I’m very close to has battled with it and continues to. I pray he finds whatever help he needs. In my limited experience it’s not an easy fix, It’s tough. My heart goes out to Tom and his family.

Kirby Smart: Thoughts on Georgia, Oregon Season Opener
I agree, I think it’s more of a compliment. As a Dawg fan, I’ll say that Sept. 3 isn’t the only game at the moment I’m concerned about but it’s definitely the one I’m the most worried about. And not just bc it’s the next game. Top 3 reason I’m a little worried…. 1- It’s the first game. I’m not exactly sure what to expect from either side. 2- The Ducks are very talented and I believe will be very well coached. 3- If UGA loses to the Ducks it leaves no room for error. I don’t care how good you are, it’s very hard to win 14 games in a row. My point is, if the Ducks win this game, it will not be bc UGA took them lightly. The Dawgs will be as prepared and as ready as they can possibly be.

Kirby Smart: Thoughts on Georgia, Oregon Season Opener
Absolutely! I’m a little bit biased bc I’m a big CDL fan, but I’m confident that he is a future star in the HCing world. I hated to see him leave UGA, but I’m also happy he is getting a great opportunity. I think the Ducks hit it outta the park in hiring Lanning.

Kirby Smart Top-Paid College Football Coach
I agree, if UGA didn’t make him the highest paid coach, there are others that certainly would be offering to.

What Is Oregon’s Most Important Game of 2022?
I said earlier in this thread, along with others, that the GA-UO game is a great barometer game for Oregon. IMO the same can be said for GA. Both teams are going to be very different than the teams fielded last season. It’s the first game, it will take some time to have fair expectations for each team this season. This game is important for both Oregon and GA. We are transversely very likely the best team each will face in the regular season. But the teams that hit the gridiron on Sept.3 will likely, hopefully through growth and not injury, be different than the teams fielded in Nov., Dec, etc….. It’s an important game bc a loss leaves no room for failure the rest of the season for either team, but a loss doesn’t put either team out of playoff contention. Having said all this, Haywarduck makes a good point. The next game is always the most important. Looking too far ahead is inviting trouble.

Terrible News...Spencer Webb Dies in Accident 🙁
So very tragic. My heart goes out to the Webb family and friends. And to all of Ducknation. 🙏

What Is Oregon’s Most Important Game of 2022?
I agree, this isn’t a trap game for GA in the sense that GA might be looking past Oregon. Their not, Oregon is likely the most talented team on the schedule and they have had all off season to think about that. USCjr could absolutely be a trap game, but considering that they embarrassed us in Athens a few years ago I think it’s not likely either. I agree with Vandownbytheriverduck (awesome name-Farley was the best) that it’s very possible that our D could struggle some from not being polished. The GA D will be physically fast but you must play with great reaction time and with great overall cohesion to be at your best. It’s the first game with many new faces starting, we will see. I also agree with his assessment that getting pressure on Bennet could be a game changer. Again we will see. Back on topic - I would say while this game is a great barometer for Oregon, it’s not their most important game. If Oregon wins it’s a huge deal, but if they lose and play well it’s still a statement. I would assume that the Utah game is Oregon’s biggest game.

Talk About Justin Flowe Being Drafted? Come On!
If he plays at the level expected and stays healthy, he absolutely could be a high draft pick next spring.

Top 25 College Towns? Eugene Snubbed!
Yea maybe, I’ve spent time in many of the cities mentioned in this list. Mostly work related. I have fond memories of Madison, Ann Arbor, Aimes, and to a lesser degree even Gainesville, Tallahassee, and Pittsburgh. All of these places I’ve encountered very friendly people and has good times. I don’t really understand how Pitt is considered a college town. I’d love to visit Eugene, but haven’t had the pleasure yet. Still this list makes little sense to me.

Top 25 College Towns? Eugene Snubbed!
What is the main criteria I wonder. I’m a little biased for sure, but if Athens, GA doesn’t even make it into the top 25, I’m not taking the list seriously.
