  1. What a mature, classy person. This guy embodies everything Oregon football should stand for, grit, grace, determination and humility. The coaches have a wonderful recruiting narrative by simply telling his story. He could have totally given up after the Auburn debacle but he persevered. It has always been about the team and not him. I am so glad he is a DUCK and will always be.
  2. What's that old saying.... better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.
  3. Yeah, would not classify this as 'bleeding'. Oregon is at 91 scholarship players. There will be more and likely the guys who were down lower on the depth chart and maybe a surprise or two, in addition to the guys who declare for the draft.
  4. I hope the MM connection pays dividends.
  5. ^^^^^ this all day. I agree on all counts. It will be interesting to see what DeBoer does as you say when Penix, Odunze, McMillan etc. are gone. He is not recruiting well at the moment. I don't dislike him at all. He's not arrogant (looking at you Jimmy Lake and Don James, who I know is deceased) and always seems gracious and yes is a damn good coach. There have been whispers in UW circles that some think DeBoer might want to give the NFL a go at some point. Who knows if it is anything more than speculation and fan talk.
  6. Actually my question is how is this relevant? I like Holly and think she is a good reporter but this falls right into what Dan says about clicks IMO.
  7. John Canzano made a very salient point in his post game column. Dan Lanning was a 19 year old linebacker at William Jewell college when Kalen DeBoer started coaching. Not an excuse but a fact, and several others here have highlighted this much more eloquently than JC but just making the point that experience matters. Dan has all the makings of a great coach. I never felt that about his predecessor. I'm onboard till I see something that negates that.
  8. As stated, this is pretty normal. I am glad these resources are available.
  9. The sad thing to me is these people who have these meltdowns and then vent from behind the anonymity of their key boards call themselves 'Duck fans'. Not saying fans have to agree or like everything the coaches do , but vile comments are beyond unacceptable. I am not saying they can't voice their opinion but the slander on Lanning and the coaches was disgusting. I saw comments that DL should be fired, the team was not prepared, Lannimg is stubborn. It was ridiculous. Did anyone want that game more than the coaches and players???? I wonder how all these keyboard warriors would fare if it was them standing on the sidelines and have to make a split second decision with 60,000 people watching in person and millions more watching at home. Thanks for keeping it real here!
  10. Apparently this is not surpring to some.
  11. Thank you Charles. There are plenty of other sites for those who wish to engage in the behavior as described. I for one am proud of the team and coaches. They took us on an amazing ride this year and I am immensely grateful Dan Lanning is at the helm. There's always lessons to be learned and as Dan says is you aren't winning you are learning. Appreciate the community here and the respect shown the majority of the time.
  12. Another one that (to me) is not surprising. MSU maybe? Could also see him at Michigan but you never know what might happen with the mess they have on their hands. Still talk out there that Harbaugh will bolt to the NFL.
  13. Would be interesting if he does land at MSU. He seemed a bit perturbed about Smith based on a tweet he posted after Smith announced his departure. On a separate note, anyone catch the comment from Trent Bray in his presser yesterday? When asked about Smith's departure he said 'it didn't sit quite right with me...' Guessing he was pretty sure he was getting the job but again the high road is always the best route no matter how we feel privately.
  14. Not too surprising. Wish him well.
  15. Totally feel the same Charles. I am trying to really focus on work as a distraction and it's not working. I keep pausing and then find my self thinking about the game. UGH. I am very nervous. One thing I am hoping is that there are more Duck fans than Dawg fans and they make lots of noise. Can it just be Friday at 5 pm?????? Please
  16. My nerves are in high gear. Thinking about if I will be able to sleep on Thursday night.
  17. I'm admittedly not a gambling aficionado so a translation here would help. Don't understand about the money being 3/1 in favor of the Dawgs. Will appreciate a quick primer.
  18. The Thursday story seems to be making the rounds and many OS fans are running with that as the reason for the defeat. Nick Daschel, the OS Oregonian beat writer was asked about that on Twitter (X) and Nick is no Duck lover in any way shape or form (he's all in on the built not bought thing and has particular disdain for all things green and yellow) but even Nick when asked about this playing into the beavs having little or no fire or passion said, and I quote 'they were beaten by a freaking good team'.
  19. Heard they were a pretty quiet bunch starting in about the 3rd quarter on Friday night. Nowhere to run.........
  20. Gattis won in 2021 when he was at Michigan.
  21. I have no insights into the process but the conventional wisdom seems to be that Bray will get the job. He certainly at this point is not one of the coaches going with Smith so my assumption is the wheels were already in motion to elevate him. But they have to do due diligence I guess.
  22. Was talking with a DUCK friend last night and he reminded me of how all his OS friends in Portland chided him big time when Mario jumped. They said over and over, 'we never have to worry about this because we have our guy and he will be a lifer and take us to the promise land'. My friend said his OS buddies have suddenly gone silent.
  23. Always appreciate your insights Mike. Just saying, I am big time nervous. Good thing I work from home so I can take periodic breaks to calm down. Friday seems like a long time away. Maybe I need to take some long lunches these next few days.
  24. According to JC the candidates are: Trent Bray- current DC and former OS player Brent Brennan- SJSU coach Josh Gattis- was Mario's OC last year and was also at Michigan. I believe Mario fired him after last year Matt Wells- current offensive analyst at Oklahoma Paul Chryst Bronco Mendenhall- guess he is looking to get back into coaching after a couple of years away- also is a former OS player and former asst @ OS Troy Calhoun- current coach at Air Force and has been an asst for a couple of NFL teams
  25. Not trying to be nasty here in anyway so please hear me out and this is totally off topic of Mario's QB hitting the portal but it made me think about something. Maybe Mario is a better assistant than a head coach. Nothing wrong with that. Some people are great individual contributors as opposed to managers in the business world. I had an opportunity to meet Mario in 2018. It was in a social setting ( fund raiser for athletics). I came away thinking how he did not have the 'it' factor and he frankly was a little surly. He literally could not wait to get out of the event. It was almost like he was uncomfortable in a social setting. I know in college football the 'it factor' that takes on many meanings but there was something about him that just rubbed me wrong. I will always support whomever the coach is (Taggart being the exception for me breaking my rule) but something was just missing there for me. Fast forward to DL whom I also had the opportunity to meet in a social setting. Let's just say he gave new meaning to the 'it' factor. Back to our regularly scheduled programming .......
