  1. It was not a secret in coaching circles that this was probably Nick's last ride. Other interesting factiod, Saban, Norvell,Lanning and DeBoer and Sark all have the same agent, Jimmy Sexton. Guessing when they talked it was about more than the local weather.
  2. This is exactly what I see him doing. He is a Florida guy and that job could very well open next year.
  3. Wow- they are really reaching. But then again maybe, just maybe Wilcox is the guy to lead them into the Big.
  4. I would give anything to hear Softy crying on the air. Pure gold!
  5. Kamerman won't be getting press credentials from UO anytime soon.
  6. Could not agree more about the defense. Dan knew when he took the job rebuilding the defense was priority 1. He continues to address it via the portal and recruiting. They were so much better coached than under the previous regime.
  7. I hope Dan did not make a home visit unless he did so on Sunday. The dead period for recruiting is 1/5-7. There is an exception for transfers so if he did visit it would have had to have been on Sunday which is plausible. Just hoping this is the case.
  8. Not to hijack this excellent thread because these responses are fantastic and show the depth and breadth of the knowledge on this board along with the well thought out responses but..... I was thinking last night as I watched the neighbors from the north incur that beating, Dan has pretty much revamped the roster 100% now. I know Hutson was a Cristobal guy as was Pat Herbert (clearly other factors there) but are there any MC guys still left? I'm not including the guys like JPJ and Franklin who declared for the draft either. Who am I forgetting?
  9. Very good and thought provoking article. Certainly there are positives that all of those coaches brought to the table with the exception of Taggart. Yes, I know he helped change the face of recruiting to Oregon and Cristobal further (and to his credit) enhanced it. Chip was an enigma. We loved what he did on the field and in some moments he displayed a wicked sense of humor, but he was just not someone who seemed invested from the very beginning. Not much more to say about MH. Just not the right guy. Not going to ruminate on Mario because we have filleted that topic many ways here. That brings us to Dan and what makes him different. I remember the day Dan was hired, he was genuinely overjoyed at getting the job AND he stayed on at Georgia to finish what he started there. He chose not to leave them in a bind as they were prepping for a national championship. I also remember his introductory presser when he thanked his wife and kids with real and genuine heartfelt emotion in his voice. He also profusely thanked all those who had given him an opportunity previously. The 'thank yous' did not come across as perfunctory. All of that struck a chord with me. You are at this point probably asking yourself what is the point of this diatribe. Well, in my line of work there is one thing that I learned early on and it has served me well, you have to build and cultivate relationships because that's what matters most. You can be the best sales person, best lawyer, doctor, plumber etc. but what really matters are the relationships you build with people and that is what I think makes Dan different. Mario and Chip had little interest in relationships although they talked a good game. Helfrich tried but just did not have the right DNA. Not a slam at MH. Some people just don't but they are still often times successful. The net here is in my mind a simple one, Dan doesn't have to be the smartest man in the room, he is not arrogant and the absolute most important thing that makes Dan different (in a very good way) IMO is a simple premise, Dan is comfortable in his own skin. I think he has what it takes to take our OBD to new heights.
  10. Has it been confirmed Dan did a home visit? There were rumors but wasn't sure if it was just that, Twitter rumors.
  11. The truly best part- Husky fans and those pesky Colorado fans were in a total meltdown over it. Beav and SC fans were no where to be found. Mission accomplished.
  12. The fact that Casey Kelly is in the portal makes me wonder about Ferguson. With Herbert and Ferguson and Sadiq it might mean Kelly figured his playing time would be limited. Just guessing. No inside info.
  13. Charles- is this article from a current edition of the The Athletic? I have been thinking about a subscription for awhile now so was just curious if this is current or from a past edition. Thanks
  14. RUMOR- he wants to play corner and UO sees him as a safety or nickel. Interesting none the less
  15. I was just conversing with a DUCK friend and we both said the same thing, UW has been very lucky this year and yes, sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. I still get incensed that after every reception the UW receivers claim they were interfered with. They did it non stop on 10/14 and also in Vegas on 12/1. Speaking further with my friend, we also commented about DeBoer's coaching during the last few minutes which CalBear95 also so astutely pointed out. I too think DeBoer is a very good coach but just goes to show that in the heat of battle some coaches don't make the right calls and to further add, Saban not over ruling his OC on that last run play, well that might merit a whole thread of it's own. Point is it's easy for all of us to know exactly what to do from the comfort of our sofa, but in real time in a pressure situation it's tough. I get coaches get paid the big bucks but we sometimes forget they are human too.
  16. This is how the Pac 12 media voted in August . Ducks @ #4
  17. I can't help but wonder if Brown is/was another one of MC's 'he has a lot of stars so be must be good' evaluations. No aspersions on Keith as he seems like a really good young man but I was never sure he was a fit at Oregon even when Mario signed him. Just my $.02
  18. Definitely detected a level of confidence in Novosad. Yes, the game was in hand but the fact that the play calling gave him opportunities, he did a good job. IMO, things like that are confidence builders and go a long way in building maturity and respect from teammates.
  19. Hayward- you hit on something that has stood out to me since Dan came on board. He knows how to cultivate team leaders and team chemistry. What do I mean by that? He seems to understand the personalities of his players much better than his predecessors (note that plural designation) and understands how to tap into what makes each person unique. It's clear the players are willing to run through a wall for him. Tez commented post game yesterday that Dan knows how to push the right buttons at the right time. The fact the players recognize that says something. Sure Bo is gone as are JPJ and others who were probably team leaders behind the scenes. Bassa, Burch and maybe Gabriel will possibly be some of the guys who will take on the leadership role next year. I hope everyone on the team carefully observed how Bo conducted himself because that is the blue print for team leadership. Dan will continue his Wednesday "Get Real' team dinners during the off season which nothing football related can be discussed, and I am sure they will continue their players only team meetings on Thursdays. These are the kinds of things that build culture and comradery. The bigger more urgent issue is now that Bo and Casey Rogers are gone who will be the designated Lanning babysitters?????
  20. Suggest Googling Leavitt. There's some serious skeletons in his closet from his USF days. He was never going to get a head coaching job. Jim Leavitt Struck Player, Lied, and Interfered, Investigation Concludes SYNDICATION.BLEACHERREPORT.COM The internal-external investigation conducted by the University of South Florida documents that per... The other issue with Leavitt was he never moved to Eugene when he coached at UO. He kept his home in Colorado and rented a hotel room during the season. That totally aggravated MC. Aggravated is my way of not using the politically incorrect vernacular. He was a loose cannon at events and was eventually not allowed to attend any events involving donors. Also toward the end of his tenure he was not allowed on the road to recruit. I was at an event at which both MC and JL were in attendance and the tension was so thick you could have cut it with a knife. Safe to say MC hated Leavitt
  21. Just for context, Leavitt and Cristobal hated one another when they were together at Oregon. They literally never spoke to each other.
  22. Yeah, same here, I have heard zero about Mullens 'sniffing' around at other jobs. aTm?? The boosters run that AD. UGA, Can't speak to that one but please enlighten us.
  23. Well, at least the picture is getting clearer for them. No refunds, no returns. He's yours Miami!
  24. Mario doing his usual thing. Bad game management, horrible play calling and the Canes getting multiple unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Many think of Kenny Wheaton's play as one of the greatest days in Oregon football history and rightly so. December 6th 2021, (the day of Mario's resignation) is right up there in my book.
