When Oregon Almost Entered Program Purgatory
Augduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
100% accurate and it was not just about assistant coaches, it also was about how he had to recruit and who he had to hire to run his recruiting program. There was a reason for the stipulations/requirements. It was known beforehand that he would turn it down if there were stipulations and requirements, and that would then give both Oregon and Wilcox a way to gracefully 'exit'. The search committee which consisted of several people (and NOT just that 'big donor') who did not want JW from the very beginning. They had their eye on one candidate the whole time based on what I was told by people with direct knowledge of what transpired. One of the people with direct knowledge also indicated that the interview with JW was referred to internally as a 'courtesy interview'. I like Justin. I think he is a great guy and certainly comes from a family of great DUCKS but in no way would he have been the right fit for Oregon. -
It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like 2014
Augduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I am superstitious so I am not going to weigh in on this. -
Seems there are some rumors circulating that Grinch will be gone at the end of the season no matter what happens. Darn, I think he’s a great D coordinator.

Nick Aliotti on Lanning Decisions: 'That's Just Who I Am'
Augduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
East Bay DD- agree with your sentiments on why Dan is recruiting quality edge and dline guys and I think that is why he is pushing so hard to get Rushing. I think he sees him as the prototypical kind of guy to fully fit his scheme along with Tuioti and Uiagalelei -
Nick Aliotti on Lanning Decisions: 'That's Just Who I Am'
Augduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I've had an opportunity to talk with Nick on a couple of occasions. He likes Dan a lot and thinks he will do just fine. I agree too with the sentiments about Ken Woody. Don't dislike the guy in anyway but find his analysis to always be a bit too caustic. It's certainly fair to point out what doesn't work but I find he rarely points out what does. -
Here's a great example of why Dan might be 'distracted'. I imagine he has a pretty singular focus this week and what Michigan is doing or did is probably not at the top of his list. I get it involved Oregon (and Georgia when he was there) but not sure what it has to do with Utah. Just sayin' James Crepea @JamesCrepea · 55m Dan Lanning said he didn’t have a lot of thoughts on Michigan in-game scouting Oregon last season: “Ultimately, I think that’ll all sort itself out.” Re: if anything was unusual about 2021 Orange Bowl vs Michigan after it scouted SECCG: “I just remember the result of that game.”

EB DuckDad- thanks for the call out. You nailed exactly what I should have more clearly said. DL saves his fire and brimstone for the right times. Taking questions from Crepea and others, which I honestly think he does far more respectfully than his predecessor has to be hard. By the end of the day I am sure Dan is ready to unwind just like all the rest of us. Only thing is Dan's job is 24x7 now and is that way until the ink is dry on NLIs on the that first Wednesday in February. In reality Dan never really gets a reprieve other than a couple of weeks in July when he goes on vacation.

Honestly, I think we're reading too much into things. I am 1000% guilty of doing the same thing at times (a lot) as well. Dan puts in 16-18 hour days. When his 'football coach' day is over Dan heads home and is a husband and father to three boys so his day is not really over once he leaves his office. He is a passionate guy and he knows very well he is in a very good situation. I have been told by several people inside the AD Dan is the first of the last three coaches who truly realizes what he has. Just as a point of reference his predecessor's pressers were so lacking in any emotion that it was often hard to watch. I sort of detected last week that he might have had a cold. My $.02 take is no one has clipped his wings and if I had to sit down and take questions from Crepea I might be a little weary too.

First item of business- Acho talks a lot and says very little. Clicks vs substance (hmmm, seems I have heard that one before ) USC seems to be in a world of hurt with football right now. The post game episode with none of the players showing up and Riley blaming the officials was a really bad look. Caleb sitting on the bench and not exchanging post game handshakes was bad. I hope DL does not allow that sort of thing. The AD who spent big money on LR is gone under rather messy circumstances but that's a discussion for another day (remember the pronouncement of said AD that the LR hire would change the landscape of college football?) and now Jen Cohen has this mess to clean up. LR also has a big decision to make soon and that is what does he do with Alex Grinch. Grinch is his buddy and let's be honest no one likes to fire their buddy but he may have to. Like Mr. Fischer, I never said I was noble.

I would be very surprised to see him return to Oregon. Not saying I have ANY insights but I would be surprised. Dan seems to have a certain profile he looks for in assistants and while I certainly don't know his full criteria, it just strikes me that Frost would not be a fit. Frost always viewed himself as the smartest man in the room and I can't help but think that would not fly with Dan.
-
Frost was not well liked within the confines of the HDC so there’s that.
-
Transferred from Ga . DL knew him from his days there. There’s a reason DL did not even consider him when he entered the portal. He was considered a liability and a ‘me’ guy.

Maybe was a guest of Tuioti. Tuioti coached for him and Casey Rogers played under him.

WATCH: Oregon Football Coaches Show 10-18-23
Augduck replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Steve Stephens is certainly mature and admirable that he has goals for life after football. He will have his Masters degree at the end of fall term. Very good ambassador for the program. If I understood correctly he said Lanning would welcome him on the staff as a coach. Nice. -
Was talking with a Coug friend of mine and he told me there are some rumblings of issues surrounding the team at the moment. Many in the fan base think Dickert is seriously interviewing for the MSU job. They are pretty certain he will jump at the end of the season. Certainly the current issues with WSU (and OS) are they key factors in that decision making process I am sure. Not saying this game won't be a challenge because it will but something to consider.

Do Excellent Recruiters Think Differently About Game Management?

Regarding question #1- I don't see any correlation. Agree that its wins and losses and direction of the program. -
Questions About the New Coaches Lanning Hired?

Can't argue much with this. Now just keep it rolling and good things will happen. -
One Time I Agree with Jon Wilner...(Dan Lanning)
Augduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Hope you are correct and if so will you provide stock tips? -
And (hopefully) the Ducks will be very motivated by their loss. Nothing is a given in the P12 this year and I think we knew that going in.

One Time I Agree with Jon Wilner...(Dan Lanning)
Augduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Just a little insight on Jon Wilner. He was the beat writer at the San Jose Mercury News for Stanford. Harbaugh loathed him when he was the HC there. He wanted Stanford to strip his press credentials but they could not. He literally used to follow Harbaugh around the facility in hopes of getting a ‘scoop’. During his time at Stanford which coincided with Chip’s time at Oregon, Wilner loathed Chip. Don’t know specifics but just know he did not like him at all. Harbaugh leaves and goes to the Niners and guess who becomes one of the 49er beat guys? Yep, good ole Jon. Harbaugh obviously had greater leverage with the 49ers than at Stanford so they gave him limited media access. Jon was known among the press corp as Jim’s lap dog. He then went back to college football but he was not well liked among the sports press in the Bay Area. -

Chip coached at a time when the P12 was far less competitive. Just adding for context. -
