  1. I did not watch his commitment but a friend of mine did and said Rushing did not look super happy during the announcement. Said he sort of had a nondescript expression but that both parents looked very happy. My friends 'arm chair' opinion was that Mom and Dad might have tipped the scales by playing the closer to home card. Just an observation. No special insights.
  2. Yep, that seems to be conventional wisdom. Apparently the opportunity to play with his brother and UA upping the ante on an NIL deal are playing a major role.
  3. They are obsessed with Oregon. Oregon lives rent free in their heads 24x7. I would think they are only worthy of USC's commits.
  4. Actually the 'prowessed excuses' coming from them are pretty good. I mean it makes for some good reading. I wonder if there is a class offered at UW on the Existential Merits of Being Academically Prowessed. Could be offered in the philosophy dept. or maybe psychology. Bottom line here is there are lots of options. Maybe they require all student athletes to take it. To think the quotes Charles noted above did not come from Dawgman is also very interesting. The net here is Jimmy Lake left us with an amazing legacy. Please Dan, please beat the stuffing out of them in the fall.
  5. Agree about showing sportsmanship and dignity. There are some things that transcend what happens on the field and this is one of them.
  6. That's an excellent perspective. I feel better now.
  7. Won't lie- I'm still a bit worried about him flipping.
  8. I have spoken to team members one of whom is of the LDS faith. He indicated that Dan does not inject ANY religious beliefs, interpretations, conversation etc in any discussions. Team members are welcome to discuss and practice their faith /beliefs but according to the person I spoke to, no one on the coaching staff crosses the line. Note too that Coach Locklyn is very open in his beliefs and often posts scripture on Twitter but he also does not impose or 'suggest' any sort of religious beliefs on people. My guess is that Gatlin Bair spoke openly to Dan et al about his plan to take a mission and my guess is Dan was 100% supportive so that may be interpreted as 'emphasis on faith'. I am sure Dan said something along the lines of 'we support you in your beliefs and your choices'. Something fairly simple as that. Nothing in Dan's persona suggests to me that he would do anything that would cause undue concern with regard to this realm.
  9. I have heard similar comments from others close to the program about DL and his desire to be at Oregon for awhile. He very much likes the lifestyle in Eugene and so does his family.
  10. This is actually very interesting because they tout their love and passion as second to none. Of course they will sell out when the DUCKS come to town. Very interesting fan base.
  11. If you really want to get under Beavs 3.0 thin skin ask about Pat Casey covering for Luke Heimlich. They get very defensive and quickly bring up the b-ball episode they are so certain that Altman swept under the carpet. Yet I think Pat Casey gave new meaning to 'sweeping things under the carpet'.
  12. Wow- they are an interesting lot. One would think being an adult and keeping perspective would be the order of the day. They have been relatively low key after the football victory based on my limited interactions but apparently the baseball thing really has them in a dither. They do seem to have a case of selective memory on the fact that PK saved their baseball coach a few years ago. Maybe we can remind them of that as they are swiping their credit card for those Oral Roberts shirts.
  13. Totally agree. I think Dan is much more prepared, astute and willing to listen to and LEARN from his assistants. His predecessor was a control freak and everything was done his way. We saw how that worked out on multiple ocassions.
  14. Yes, Mario's misuse of Herbert goes down as one of the all time football crimes. He had generational talent in Herbert and having him hand off and occasionally drop a 20 yd pass was just beyond belief.
  15. My thoughts as well Mr. Fischer but I did not want to come off as a negative Nancy so I tempered the discussion a bit. And yes, Gulbranson may well be in the mix too. He is not the most fleet of foot but they have a decent running back in Martinez so don't need him to be. I am not sure about the receiving corp, seems they might have lost a few to graduation and of course Musgrave went to the NFL but as much as it pains me to say it, Smith gets the most out of his guys. The question will be their D. Omar Speights who was all P12 last year transferred to LSU and again the whispers in Corvallis are that was a 'major loss'.
  16. I honestly think Dan and team know exactly what they are doing. Will there be mistakes, sure, there always are but I like the trajectory.
  17. Maybe Will Stein is the guy to help him. Hard to say for sure. I hope so because TT seems like a really nice kid and it's not hard to like him. He always comes across as courteous and sincere based on the interviews I have seen. There is also the possibility that Mario simple chased him because of stars. That seems to be more apparent everyday. I was privy to a discussion among some well connected 'boosters' and one of them made the comment that Mario's inability to really evaluate talent is showing. I was not in a position due to the setting to ask the person to elaborate but the comment stuck with me. Maybe it will become more apparent at Miami or the flip side is he will be very successful and develop the talent. I have my doubts but certainly will own up to it if proven wrong. Note, no ill will intended on my part toward Mario, but it seems that a lot has come to light recently that has certainly given me pause for thought. Anyway not an intent to highjack the thread about TT. Hope he does well at the camp and becomes QB2 that can be relied upon.
  18. This certainly is interesting. Have heard from a good source that there are some whispers in Corvallis that DJU MAY NOT get the starting job. There seems to be some vibes that Chiles who is a dual threat guy COULD beat him out for the #1 spot. Again some conjecture here but might be something to keep an eye on.
  19. Is this because they got all the guys Washington and USC did not want or in the case of UW would have not qualified academically any way???? Just wondering.
  20. At this very moment it's hard to disagree vehemently BUT I also think the DUCKS will be in the mix.
  21. And the 'Danno booked 'em' reference is golden.
  22. It was an interesting post. Hard to tell if he was just in a reflective mood or something is/was afoot. Mario hired him and he is one of the few remaining staff members that were retained so that post certainly does give pause for thought.
  23. Whew- there's a whole lot in that husky rant that is downright painful. Their standard mantra when they lost someone on the recruiting trail to UO was that he was 'NOKG'. Then they moved to verse two of the song which is always that Phil is paying people. They were sweating bullets when Junior Adams left ( 'why would be want to go to Eugene' was the cry and it quickly became 'he never was a good coach anyway'). Now we have again moved the goal posts and the new iteration is that DL was protected by Kirby and is in over his head. There's just so much prowess and creativity in dawgland I can't keep up. Waiting patiently for the next verse.
  24. I think Ty is a really good example of what is/was the biggest issue with Mario. He likes guys with lots of stars and his ability to evaluate if those stars are really warranted is very flawed. We all know the star system has it's pros and cons but I think Mario used it as his most important metric.
