That whole list is pretty random. What’s the rationale of say, Fleck over Bielema? Scandal free mediocrity gets you in the top half I guess? 

Jonathan Smith is too low. 

 

What he did with Beavis was impressive and if the Pac-12 had survived I would have bet the Beavers make the playoff before USC with him in charge. 

Getting absolutely blown out in three playoff games by letting teams score 50+ points on your defense and being 1-4 in NY6 games, including a loss to a G5 school, gets you second place on this list?  
 

The bar is set pretty low for Lanning.  
 

And yeah,  as someone pointed out, the fact that Smith is not in the Top 5 is a complete joke.

Whoever wrote that list is not being fair. Of those I watch regularly, IMO the Illinois coach and Smith are better than ranked. Day, should be down the list in the middle. LR......the USC fans don't recognize yet that they hired a con man. Rhule should be up a bit more.

USC hired the coach they deserve. 

 

Riley is a perfect fit for USC. They hired the flashy coach who won games in the Big 12 where defense is merely a suggestion.

As with most lists, entirely subjective. 

 

DL has only 2 years to look at. 5 losses, 3 to the same team. All but 1 by 4 pts or fewer.

In a couple years it will become obvious even to the B1G pundits that we have the best coach.

 

In the meantime, let them underestimate us.

 

Coach Lanning is building a dynasty.
