FishDuck Article Administrator No. 1 Share Posted September 10 Off the top of my head, recalling Civil War games I attended from my youth, I remember that the 1983, 0-0 “Toilet Bowl” had a torrential downpour. The 1985 game was frigidly cold. The 1993 game had fog. With this year’s game in September, and most years moving forward, the third competitor in the Civil War — weather — has ... Charles Fischer Administrator No. 2 Share Posted September 10 I'll be honest; the Beavers are better than I'd thought they would be, although they have not been tested as much. It would be nice to get the offense going again, a "get-well" game, but until I see otherwise--I will assume we will see a tough contested game. 1 Mr. FishDuck
HappyToBeADuck No. 3 Share Posted September 10 The rodents usually defend the wetlands den very well. They will be fired up to knock OBD's out of the Top 10. As long as the offense plays a clean game (no drive killing, hole digging penalties and hang on to the ball) then OBD's have to much firepower for the rodents to keep up. I do owe DG and the O line an apology and a shout out. In my 3rd replay of the game i noticed that the experienced tackles were noticing and pointing to a defensive blitz headed there way.. On one such play, DG adjusted and immediately threw a quick hit TD to Holden. BSU all out gambled and the Ducks kept 7 in the box to pick up the blitz. Well done On the those two, 4th quarter TD misses that DG overthrew, the O Line gave DG enough time to throw. They will hit those against the rodents. Also in the 2nd half, OBD's converted a couple of critical 3rd and ones. That is good news. And the O drove down to win the game. Well done. This praise does not diminish the D and special teams play who kept us in the game. If you watch the game again, the 3rd quarter was near perfect in all 3 phases of the game. This old crouch needs to be less critical on what I first see and do more looks at what actually happened. Rooting for OBD''s to put a complete 4 quarter game together Saturday. I want more Happy thoughts! GO DUCKS ..... 1 2
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 4 Share Posted September 10 Thank you, Darren. The New World Order of College Football does have interesting consequences. Last Saturday, Cal scored a huge win for the ACC when it took down Auburn of the SEC on the road. War Bears! Thank you for properly referring to the game as "THE CIVIL WAR!" OBD's 'Civil War' game this season is versus UWho in Autzen. For The Beavers, it's a game on the Blue Turf in Boise. But Ohio State will still be playing That Team Up North. Blast the Beavs! And don't forget to wear your helmet and flak jacket.
David Marsh No. 5 Share Posted September 10 Are the Beavers better than Boise State? Maybe... but we'll find out later this season. But they are similar. Both are dependent on a run game to get things going. So it will be another week for the Ducks to contain the run game on defense. It would also be nice for the offensive line and the offense to get some push and get our own run game going so that the defense isn't on the field for as long. That is what really hurt us against Boise is that the defense never seemed to leave the field. Those special teams touchdowns are great, and without them we would have lost, but it doesn't give the defense a whole lot of rest.
Haywarduck Moderator No. 6 Share Posted September 10 I suppose the weather won't be a factor, but in some parts of the state the civil war will have the flavor of a battle going on with smoke at unhealthy levels. That smoke might signal the potential for an unhealthy outcome for Oregon. The smoke at Reser may come from one team becoming the tinder for the others effort. Maybe this is what our Ducks need? So far we haven't truly seen them rise up and show what they can do, who they are. They have mostly just showed up and expected to win based on what the pundits have predicted. I have a feeling there may not be a weather issue, but where there is smoke there is fire. This might be the game where we start to see some fire from our Ducks. I sure hope so because they will need some to win this game. Pundits predictions won't get you wins if you don't show some real defining effort. The beavs are burning through our money from the old Pac. I just hope they don't burn through our teams lackluster play. It is time to play with a purpose, and start define this team. It is time for this team to get a name and in honor of that I give you.

DuckFan93 No. 8 Share Posted September 10 (edited) Fingers and toes crossed for this one. Still remember the last time we were at Reser... Somehow I think the current OBD team might be even more complacent if they manage to build a 21-pt lead. Edited September 10 by DuckFan93

30Duck No. 15 Share Posted September 10 I kind of like playing the Beavs early in the season. This one is a combo of cliches, "Super Bowl" for the Beavs, "Must Win" for OBD. The last two games have me thinking it will be close. Boise State and Idaho both played solid games, could have won. But I think Lanning's, "Only Oregon Beats Oregon" won the day, and the Ducks came up with the W's.

I don't think the Beavers have a better quarterback this season. DJU wasn't bad for the Beavers and he seemed to fit their system the best. So that's something for them I suppose. So maybe the Beavers are similar to Boise but with a worse quarterback and running back?

Drake Moderator No. 19 Share Posted September 10 After 127 games in the same conference our connection to osu is now an out of conference game on the schedule. Stating that they are in state rivals seems somewhat awkward. It is like saying that Portland State is an in state rival.
HDuck No. 20 Share Posted September 10 The following week is a bye week. I would rather the Ducks be "fine tuning" the offense and defense than wallowing in defeat for two weeks. But, getting their s**t together this week should be No. 1 priority.
