FishDuck Article Administrator No. 1 Share Posted October 8 The Ohio State-Oregon game will be the B1G version of Georgia-Alabama. It is a battle of conference heavyweights that should set the tone for the rest of the season. If the Ducks play like they did against Michigan State, with a strong defensive performance, good ground game, and flashes of passing brilliance, they can win if Dillon Gabriel can make ... 30Duck Moderator No. 3 Share Posted October 8 (edited) It is interesting that if the Ducks beat the Buckeyes, the sky's the limit, if they lose, it's not the end of the world. If USC loses to Penn State, the crumbling down at USC will take on epic proportions. USC hasn't been a "Destination" since Carroll left. It hasn't worked with Riley. Is another high profile coach going to want to take the job? This will be the first time at Autzen for the Buckeyes. They're saying the right things, but I don't know how seriously they're taking the Ducks. Hopefully, OBD will jump on them early and the Buckeyes will need some Dramamine. HappyToBeADuck No. 4 Share Posted October 8 IMO, so far this season OBD's have not put a full 4 quarters of football together that would cause tOSU to be concerned. Upon what the film shows, the Buckeyes will build a solid game plan to exploit the weaknesses and inconsistencies of OBD's. The thought of losing this game will never enter their minds. They will not overlook the Ducks and they will bring their A plus game. However, this will be their first game this season on the road in a hostile environment. A very loud and hostile environment. Hearing the snap counts and audibles will be difficult. The crowd needs to bring their loud A plus effort from start to finish. They have played teams with no chance to beat them and completely destroyed them. The Ducks, however can beat them. In all the Buckeye articles I have read since spring ball, their O line was a concern. The Duck front 7 will be their first true test of 2024. Put pressure on their QB, force him off his mark and timing. Make him hear and feel footsteps. Force him to hurry his throws. If the Duck D creates havoc and DG plays mistake free ball then this will be a a true BIG Heavy Weight Matchup. No clue who wins but GO DUCKS... 2
MicroBurst61 No. 5 Share Posted October 8 Even though this game has been "circled" on the calendar for many NFL-lite pundits, the teams seem to be focused on the processes that have gotten them to this week, in a very long season. I hope and believe that both organization have focused on the "tasks at hand" and have been working to improve their "product" leading up to this game. I am expecting a very close and competitive game with the final scores being in the twenties. (Will put forward my official guesstimate once Charles opens up the prediction thread.) Point is that with a 12 team playoff a single loss to a TOP 5 team is not going to hurt either teams chances for making the playoffs with a decent enough seed. That being said, the loser WILL have only a one game "buffer" and a second loss before a possible B1G championship game could very easily require an invite AND a win to said championship game to ensure a slot in the playoffs Having three losses at the end of the season WILL preclude Some 3-loss team from the playoffs, depending upon how the rest of the conference's seasons go. Rather Not have that "possibility" hanging over our heads come the first of December. Just play to our capabilities and talent, then there should be NO problems. Easy-Peasy, right? GO DUCKS! Beat down the Buckeyes!

USC just hasn't found the right guy. They can be top-notch again, I have no doubt. Riley isn't a good head coach, he's a great OC. His problems were hidden in the Big 12 because nobody played defense in that conference and he could just out score everybody. Also, Texas was down. He couldn't win in the playoff. His 11-3 2022 team did not play the Ducks or UW, they lost to Utah twice and Tulane.

Charles Fischer Administrator No. 12 Share Posted October 8 As always, I enjoy your articles Darren. I do appreciate your patience, and the tolerance of the other FishDuck writers when I slip in a sentence with a gambling link to pay the bills. Today's was especially interesting because the SEO company that contacted me is in the country of Georgia, not the state. (A WAY eastern European block nation) The link went to a gambling site in Australia, and I am in Eugene Oregon. How much more global can it be than that? DanLduck No. 14 Share Posted October 8 A real heavyweight bout! I compared the stats of both teams in their game against MSU. Amazingly they were virtually identical. Total yards made, allowed, 1st downs, etc. Scores were similar ,tOSU 38-7 and we were up 31-0 in the 4th before all the subs. I think both teams are really equally matched. Great skill players, powerful defense, solid O-line, well coached, this really should be a classic game. Quite possibly going down to a last second play. Special teams could be the difference maker in this one. Can't wait for Saturday!
Solar No. 15 Share Posted October 8 I expect the ducks come to play, all lit up like they were against Colorado last year. Fully locked in and executing at a high level. My biggest fear is if we build a 14+ point lead at any point and take our foot off the gas mentality and with play calling. I really don't want to see a Cal-Miami type of scenario. That is my worst case.

But it just wasn't to be, much like the 2001/2002 squad. What if is never going to satisfy you. I don't believe Lanning will allow this, but I hope the team doesn't let the game go in the fourth should Ohio State be up a couple scores because of the fact that this loss doesn't sink them. Complacency is the mother of failure. Every game still matters. Seeding is going to be important. We don't want to see Boise State coming into Eugene for a first round game if possible. Jon Joseph Moderator No. 19 Share Posted October 9 Thanks, Darren. The level of competition has not been all that; however, the Buckeyes D has surrendered 28 points in its last four games. (LOL. Paul Finebaum dumps on Ohio State's 2024 OOC schedule shortly before No. 1 Bama and No.4 Tennessee lose to unranked teams and Mizzou is undressed in College Station.) Paul, here are a few of the Ohio State University's future OOC games. Texas 2025/26. Alabama 2027/28, and Georgia 2029/30. With the Power 2 Poohbahs meeting in Nashville ((Nashville, Paul, Nashville, also known in Tuscaloosa as Mashville )) tomorrow, I expect we will see more B1G/SEC regular season matchups down the road, in Autzen, and on the road.) In the 2nd half this season Ohio State has outscored its opponents 119-10. In its last three games, OBD has outscored the opposition 114-37. OBD has a Top 25 win vs No. 17 Boise State. This will be the Buckeyes 1st game vs a Top 25-ranked team. Will a Three Time Zone trip, trip the Bucks up? Go Ducks! Crush the Nuts!
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 20 Share Posted October 10 A Few B1G Tidbits While Waiting For the B1GGEST Game in Autzen HIstory 82% of tOSU's WR Jeremiah Smith's catches have been for a 1st down or a touchdown. Holy Hoosiers! Indiana is 6-0 and bowl-eligible for the 1st time since 1967. What would the preseason odds have been on Indiana and Nebraska being a combined 11-1 heading into Week No. 7? Indy has one win against an opponent with a winning record, 3-2 Maryland. Both Nebraska and No. 18 Indiana have Week 7 off before the Cornhuskers journey to Bloomington for a significant B1G game. Football College Gameday in Bloomington? In last Saturday's loss to Minnesota, the Gophers O-line was 42 pounds on average heavier than the Trojans D-line. The last time Oregon was a home UnderDuck was in 2018. Oregon won the game defeating U Who 30-27 in OT. Ohio State is traveling three time zones to play OBD. In 2024, nine B1G teams have traveled two time zones plus for conference games, Record 1-8 with conference 1st place team Indiana getting the win in Pasadena vs UCLA. The airport runway in University Park, PA. is too short to accommodate aircraft that can fly nonstop to LA. Today, the Nittany Lions will travel two hours by bus to Harrisburg to fly non-stop to LA. The LA Two-Step - Minnesota - Week 6 vs, USC. Week 7 at UCLA. Penn State - Week 6 vs UCLA. Week 7 at USC. Week 7 sees 7 B1G teams with one or fewer losses. No P4 Out-of-Conference Opponents for Ducks and Bucks. BEWARE OBD - After Wazzu blew out Texas Tech, canceling the game seemed like no big deal. The Red Raiders are 5-1 and in 1st place in the B12. 30Duck Moderator No. 24 Share Posted October 11 This game is maddening! Of course, like is said about every game, you have to stop the run. Make them pass," But with Smith & Egbuka, you don't want Ohio State to pass! So, the front 7 are the most important 7, they've ever been. Control Henderson & Judkins. But most important, a pass rush like we haven't seen from OBD ever! The Ref's hand is on the flag as soon a ball is close to Smith or Egbuka. Howard has to be picking himself up all game.
