30Duck No. 1 Share Posted October 15 We saw Jeanty earlier in the season and I'm fine if we don't see him again. Gabriel has led the Ducks to No.2, with a win over Ohio State. Jeanty is on pace for a record breaking season, and when the regular is done, Boise State's only L will probably be to the Ducks. That's important. If the Ducks want to get to the Playoffs and win the Natty. Gabriel's game against Ohio State will have to be the norm. No slip ups the rest of the way. It's going to take Heisman level play from Gabriel. David Marsh No. 2 Share Posted October 15 Every year there is talk about a Heisman candidate needing a Heisman moment. A moment where they lift their team over their opponent and lead their team to victory. Gabriel had one of those games and moments... I think Gabriel's Heisman moment was pulling the ball and running for a 20-something yard touchdown against Ohio State and giving Oregon the lead back. Ashton Jeanty and Boise State are playing in a league that doesn't have any real competition for them. He's putting up incredible stats but in the one game against what is considered to be a good team, Oregon, Jeanty was bottled up for long portions of the game and they came up short. I guess his Heisman moment came with his long touchdown run against Oregon... but Boise didn't close that game out. And if Oregon and Boise State were to meet again today... I think the game gets lopsided real fast. This Oregon team is just growing at an exponential rate right now. The Heisman has been dominated by SEC athletes lately as well. That southern voting block for Heisman voters want to protect the SEC Heisman candidates and they vote very well together. That guy is so frickin' good, he deserves it if he approaches the single season rushing record, and it would be good for the sport if a running back from a group of 5 team won it. If Hunter had stayed healthy I could see him as worthy as well. He just pops, and if you watch him, he has elite breakaway speed and a Jonathan Stewart-like ability to stay on his feet no matter what hits him. I understand the argument that he plays in a "lesser" league against "lesser" talent, but the other side of that coin is he is on one of those "lesser" teams, playing along side "lesser" talent, especially on the OL. Imagine Jeanty behind the Ducks' OL. That is the argument used in basketball circles to keep Wilt Chamberlain out of te GOAT discussion. Jeanty is on pace to shatter Barry Sander's season rushing record, a magnificent achievement. But I think there is a reason quarterbacks have dominated the Heisman. A quarterback has to do more than a running back does in a game. Gabriel's game against Ohio State called on him to produce everything, at the highest level, and he will need to match that every game for the rest of the season, and if he does, he'll deserve the Heisman. More than likely Jeanty will be on a top 10 team when the season is over. And even if he isnt that shouldn't matter. The heisman last year was on a team with 3 losses. If he keeps it up for the rest of the season I will be disappointed if he does not win the Heisman as he is absolutely dominating. Hard to not root for this kid. I respectfully disagree. The Heisman Trophy is supposed to go to the “most outstanding college football player.” It doesn’t include any criteria on the level of competition. Lately, it’s turned into an award for the QB on the best team but that is not the intent of the award. I’d like to see other positions win the award and would love to see a defensive player win it again, as there have been some terrific players on that side of the ball (and the offense always gets all the love). 3 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

But that Oregon is not the Oregon, that led by Dillon Gabriel, beat Ohio State, while Boise State and Jeanty were playing Hawaii. RBs have to be that much more special and BSU is playing at a lower league, so I think it will be tough for Jeanty to win against other QBs, DG included. If Jeanty finishes even close to Sanders record that is an accomplishment that can't be ignored, I don't care who he's playing, he deserves it. Hunter could be a top 10 player at two positions in the country. The Heisman should be given to the best player in college football, not simply the best QB for a top 5 team. There have been way too many times greatness hasn't been recognized. 30Duck Author No. 16 Share Posted October 18 The Heisman has definitely become QB heavy. Between 1972-85. it was RB's Archie Griffin, 2 times in a row included. Tim Brown a WR, won it in 1997. Reggie Bush, Bo Jackson, Rashan Sallam and Derrick Henry have sprinkled in as RB's and Desmond Howard, Davanta Smith were WR winners, before the latest QB storm. Jon Joseph Moderator No. 17 Share Posted October 18 Hunter is expected to be full-go tomorrow in Tucson vs. Arizona. Jeanty has no Network games left. The Boise games are on CW. Boise's game at UNLV, the likely MW game of the regular season, will be shown on CBS Sports Network. If he doesn't beat Barry Sanders's rushing record, he may be invited to NYC but will not win. And it also won't hurt Dan's chances of bringing in a stud QB from the portal in 2025. Jeanty is draft-eligible in 2025 and is projected to be a 1st round pick. How many carries do Jeanty and his agent want against inferior competition? The young man after the 2025 draft will be a multi-millionaire. Risk this to injury? No matter what the young man does he will not attract enough votes outside of the West to win the Heisman. From a financial POV, he should shut it down now but thankfully, he's too good of a person and a teammate to do so.
