Charles Fischer Administrator No. 1 Share Posted November 11 In one article in The Athletic, it was predicted that Oregon will be the first team of officially qualify for the new 12-Team Playoff. But in another article Stewart Mandel says this... "Oregon has done absolutely nothing wrong, but I’m back to riding Ohio State if they meet in a Big Ten Championship Game rematch." Ohio State is a good team, and will be intensely ready for us, but I like being an underdog in the eyes of many. We still have to earn our spurs... 1 3 Mr. FishDuck
Charles Fischer Author Administrator No. 2 Share Posted November 11 He also predicts Oregon to be the No. 5 Seed and host Boise State again in the first round, and with a win would face his predicted winner of the Big-12 in Colorado. Beyond that round would loom Ohio State again (No. 1 Seed) in the National Semi-finals. He places Alabama as the No. 2 Seed that the winner of the third game between Oregon and Ohio State would face the 'Natty. Ohio State is going to drive us...nuts. noDucknewby No. 4 Share Posted November 11 Well maybe, but first they have to make it to the B1G Championship. They still have to get by Indiana and Michigan, while we only have to get by Wisconsin and Washington. Personally I hope Indiana wins out as well as OBD, I think that would make a great championship game (and story). 1 2

Solar No. 6 Share Posted November 11 It's a toss up between these two teams right now. And if we both win out to the CCG, then the loser will get the #5 seed as discussed, which is a pretty nice path to have if it truly ends up being the G5 and B12 opponents as mentioned above. Nobody has it better than us right now. There is so much to lose, so the team needs to keep it's head on straight and keep working hard and competing.
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 7 Share Posted November 11 Early line for a Ducks vs Bucks rematch is Ohio State -3. Considering the game will be played in the Eastern time zone and in a stadium tOSU is familiar with, at least was familiar with going back 4 seasons -3 is close to a Pick 'Em. To be nationally respected OBD has to win a Natty and then win a couple of more for the first one not to be a "fluke." I'm certain Dan would love first to get to the game and would be happy to be an Under - Duck in the game. BLAST THE BADGERS!

Calling for a split and putting tOSU at -3 isn't a huge lot of shade being thrown at OBD. Based on the 1st game, declaring Oregon to sweep tOSU, this time on a neutral field, might be a bit much, (though UW did it last season). I prefer a Bye until the Rose Bowl on 1/1/25 rather than having to play a physical quarter-final game vs a Boise team that will come in confident after a last play 3 point loss in Autzen. More time for Tez, Marcus and other dinged-up Ducks to get healthy. OBD does not defeat Boise without TJ's punt return. 1 3
HappyToBeADuck No. 12 Share Posted November 11 As mentioned by others, we need to take care of business in Madison and secure the spot. Handle the huskies..... No more injuries and hope all the starters are healthy by mid-December. If we do face tOSU in the CCG then it truly is anyones guess. They could have beat us on our home turf and OBD's were fortunate to beat the Buckeyes. Rematch # 2 could go either way. A loss in the CCG, as others mentioned won't keep us from the CFP. However, the 5th spot is not guaranteed.......we have to be 12-0 going into the CCG. if we go in 11-1 and lose, well a 11-2 Duck team may not grab #5. Just food for thought. Going undefeated is difficult at the P-5 Level. And while this is fun info to ponder, this old Duck fan has witnessed many November slip ups by favorites. Long ways to go but this team has all the ingredients and shoild be 12-0 heading to the CCG. GO DUCKS.....handle wisconsin. 1

"9-3 is not cutting it...You are not getting into the playoff at 9-3...And I'm telling you that a 10-2 team is going to get left out."

DanLduck No. 17 Share Posted November 12 It almost seems to me that Mandel and others have put $$$ down on tOSU to win it all preseason. That would explain the bias and blinders. Oregon doesn't play their best and immediately we're the problem. Alabama lost to Vanderbilt and almost to a UGA team that's struggling. tOSU almost lost to Nebraska after losing to us (when we left 8-12 points in the field). Why are we the only team to get down graded after less than perfect game?! All I can say is, bring em all on. Lanning is prepared for a 2nd season. Is anyone else? Maybe having a late bye will end up being a blessing. 1

If either game was a harbinger of trouble ahead, it wasn't Oregon's 21 point win, it was Indiana's 5 point escape. OBD had higher expectations placed on them for the first few games of the season-hype. IU had zero expectations but now have the "magical" season moniker placed on them. OBD have proved those higher expectations to be true. As a side note: three of the four west coast teams have had to play 7 games before a bye. OBD is the only team to have to play eight straight before their second bye!! Stacking cards against our team??

"Magical" should be the last requisite when grading coaching. A Texas team that could be ranked 2nd by the Committee tonight has one win against a P4 team with a winning record, Vanderbilt. The Horns next best win, over 5-5 Michigan. Georgia has played 4 teams currently ranked by the Committee, 3 of the games on the road and is 2-2. This includes destroying Texas in Athens. Next up for UGA, a top 10 Tennessee team. Should Texas be ranked above Georgia because it has one and not two losses? Does Sark deserve COY over Cig? A subjectively determined PO will screw a few teams over year after year. At least the Basketball Committee reveals the metrics it uses along with the rankings and folks are still ticked off over Team 68 being in over Team 69? 2026 will see automatic qualifers from the B1G and the SEC and 14 to 16 teams. If it's 14 the two top ranked teams will have a 1st round bye like we see in the NFL. Seedings will match rankings.

It is the case that in the COY, Cignetti and Indiana fit the bill perfectly, Cig has exceeded 0 expectations by a lot this season. If he was coaching the Indiana team from last season, and was 10-0, He'd have my vote. But this isn't that team, transformed into championship contender. We've gone over all the great coaching moves Lanning has made, What moves had Cignetti pulled off? What did he do in the 5 point win over Michigan? I think that Lanning meeting the expectations that were set for Oregon is impressive.
