Jon Joseph Moderator No. 2 Share Posted December 9 Thanks, Alex. But 'dominating' Penn State? My empty bottles of IPA and Pepto Bismal beg to differ. Dominate Ohio State? Just win baby! Pretty? Ugly? It doesn't matter. Georgia - Which Georgia team shows up and how serious is Carson Beck's injury? I don't see UGA even with its great D advancing to Atlanta with Beck not playing. The Georgia O has not lit up scoreboards in 2024. However, the Dawgs D held Texas to three TDs in two games. The D versus Texas in 2024 came up with 13 sacks and 15 Tackles For Loss . It was a grind but even down to its second-string QB, UGA getting points in Atlanta was a gift. IMO, if OBD can defeat Ohio State/Tennessee with one team coming off a momentum-building win, and all hands are able to go in the next two games, I like OBD's chances. Especially with a wake-up call for the D in Indianapolis. Of the QBs still playing ball, I like Gabe to blow his horn in Atlanta on 1/20/25. Our OBD guy is the best player at the most critical position heading into the CFB playoffs. Thanks again. Trash Tennessee! Blast the Buckeyes! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Athletic's Bruce Feldman has OBD winning it all. Cites Gabe as the best QB in the field. "Gaberiel has a 22-3 TD-to-INT ratio versus ranked opponents in the last three seasons. And Gabriel has played against and defeated Texas." FIRST - Vanquish the Vols or Crush the Buckeyes!
Haywarduck No. 3 Share Posted December 9 Agree Lanning has defeated the BIG little boys, now there is one team, program, in the playoffs where he has unfinished business. A game where the mentor plays the mentee is always interesting. Up to this point the mentor has been unthreatened and undoubtedly played the standard mentor role. When Lanning has called, Smart has answered and helped him out. That relationship has now progressed to the point where Lanning isn't the struggling coach looking for advice and wisdom. He is now a threat, and ready to take the next step. While Lanning would probably treasure defeating Alabama and Deboer more than Smart, that won't happen this season. Deboer has met his level of incompetence, it seems for this year. I am sure that opportunity will come, but for now Smart and Georgia are the program Lanning needs to climb out from underneath, to really clean up the season, his history. It would be a beautiful thing to see Lanning play Smart and take the flame that Smart and Deboer were looked upon to be battling for this season. The upstart program with the inexperienced coach takes the role, at least temporarily from Saban. The title of greatest college coach is up for grabs, and Lanning deserves to be considered. The question is will he take that title this year, or is he still just the mentee? I think the real story is Lanning and taking that title from Saban. That road will probably go right through Smart and Georgia, but whoever it is Lanning is ready. The big back story is the Ducks winning the title for Phil Knight, but I think the huge void that will be filled is Lanning taking the title of greatest coach in college football. That is the story we will see cemented over the coming decade, and played out over the coming weeks. 1 1
30Duck Moderator No. 4 Share Posted December 9 The last time osu2 was an option to play OBD they were down to their 3rd string QB, but they beat Alabama and Cardale and Ezekiel ran over the Ducks. Now osu2 is another SEC team away from facing the Ducks again. We know the Ducks can beat osu2, Tennessee is new. I'd rather go against Tennessee. If the Ducks play the Dawgs, I don't think Smart would defer and let the Ducks start with the ball. This would be a great game for reasons that are obvious to all. HappyToBeADuck No. 5 Share Posted December 9 (edited) Any team that has offensive firepower and balance is a threat to OBD's..... The Duck D is really good, mean & aggressive. IMHO, it is not dominant. The Ducks have played 3 Top 10, CFP bound teams in 2024. The Duck D surrenderd 37 points snd 500+ yards to PSU, 31 to osu2 and 34 to BSU. Those 3 games weren't decided until late in the game. I expect all the CFP teams OBD's could potentially face to be a solid threat. But the greatest threat for OBD's is as always the Ducks themselves. Only the Ducks can beat the Ducks. Going to be a rollercoaster ride to the finish line. DG and the offense may need 45 plus points to win a nailbiter The D will need critical 3rd and 4th down stops to steal a win. They can do it.... GO DUCKS........ MicroBurst61 No. 6 Share Posted December 9 Biggest "threat" was/is the selection committee. That being said a first round matchup for OBD between the third place team from either the SEC and B1G in the Rose Bowl will be must watch TV. How it is fair that Georgia gets the fourth best team in the B1G or an independent ND. Boise St gets second placed team from either the B1G or ACC, and ASU gets the second place SEC team (Texas) or the 3-loss surprise ACC winner (Clemson); will probably have to be addressed before next seasons playoffs, but I won't hold my breath. As I have stated before, Because of this "inequity" in the seeding of the playoffs, When OBD win the national championship in January it will HAVE to be viewed as the Greatest championship run in modern NFL-lite history, because of the gauntlet that had been laid before them. And I am here for it! Of course ESPN and it's "pundits" will still be bringing up the narrow victory vs Idaho as why OBD is not "really" that good. (Everyone else is Obviously having a "down" year). Regardless of the playoffs beat down OBD is about to release on the NFL-lite twelve team playoff, that will leave a "bad"(Duck) taste in the mouth of the BlueBlood programs mouths, they will Not be fazed (FEBU). And this too I am Definitely here for also! LETS GO, CHAMPIONSHIP OR BUST, DUCKS! 1

Haywarduck No. 8 Share Posted December 9 Agree what Oregon is tasked with may be historical, and also not repeated for a long time. Oregon just might have to beat 6 of the 12 teams in the playoffs. We have already defeated 3 teams in the playoffs. If the games play out how they potentially could that would require us to beat 3 more. Many of the teams couldn't even beat teams out of the playoffs, and most showed they couldn't beat teams in the playoffs. Only Oregon has beaten everyone, played in one of the elite conferences, won on the road, at home, and against playoff teams out of their conference. And the focus remain, FEBU, win it all, GO DUCKS!
PittDuck No. 9 Share Posted December 9 OBD just needs to win out. Much easier said than done, but if anyone can it is DL’s 2024 DUCKS. Since we have already vanquished the best the B1G has to offer, I would love to see the Ducks take out Tennessee in the Rose Bowl, then trash Texas in the Semi-final. That would set us up to beat the bulldogs for the Natty! 16-0, having beaten the best of the B1G AND the SEC, would pretty much cement OBD as a team for the ages!

The narrative nationally was Boise State nearly pulled off an upset. I don’t even beg to differ. We could easily say it wasn’t the Special Teams that won the game for OBD, but the experimenting and uncanny turnovers that allowed Boise State a shot at an upset. Remember, we got 14 "easy" points and so did they. Take away those 4 TDs and what do you have? Probably another 4 points added to our victory since we shut it down when we hit the Red Zone at the end of the game. Boise State is going to get run out of Idaho come Round One. I was hoping we’d do the honors. Kind of that “it isn’t Boise State’s fault they have to play us" kind of thing. It’s really too bad, I really wanted to serve notice to delusional BSU fans that they will never defeat Oregon again. It is time to bury the hatchet and get the G5 a financial plan by giving them their own playoff system.

This, and get rid of CCG's. Oregon went undefeated, 9-0 in the B1G, they obviously won the conference. Even if one of the teams isn't undefeated, if it has a better record than the next team, they're the champion. If the teams are tied, use the tie breaking formula, but don't have a CCG. Giving the conference champions the Bye's is ridiculous, the 4 best should get them, if they happen to win a conference, fine, but they might not and still be one of the top 4. The G5 should have their own Playoff, instead of just sticking 1 team in with the Power 4. 2

noDucknewby No. 13 Share Posted December 9 It's a brand new season and I'm going with Kirby Smart as the biggest threat, with the caveat that the status of Carson Beck is questionable. Regardless, he's beaten Texas twice in critical games and damn near came back in the Bama game. Also don't sleep on Dabo, he's got the most playoff experience and he shouldn't be here, but yet he is. From a personnel standpoint, Texas should probably be biggest threat, but Kirby's already beaten them twice. Still don't want to play tOSU again, they have at least as much talent as anyone and mega motivation to knock us off if they get the chance. I don't really fear Penn State, our defense won't look like that again.
Steven A Moderator No. 14 Share Posted December 9 The biggest threat is Oregon not being Oregon. This is not your grandfather's Oregon! (If you are old enough to know what this is from, then you are probably a grandfather) Go Ducks! 1 1
kirklandduck Moderator No. 15 Share Posted December 10 The one thing that might happen in the OSU/Tennessee matchup is that it'll be in miserable weather and those two will beat the crap out of each other, creating a somewhat weakened opponent for Oregon the following week.

KCDuck1 No. 17 Share Posted December 10 noDucknewby stated, "...I'm going with Kirby Smart as the biggest threat,... ." No problem, but believe Coach Lanning would respond the biggest threat is the next team we play, whether that is tOSU or Tenn. Should we get past either of those two teams, the next team against whom we are slated will be our greatest threat. Agree that Coach Smart is a threat, but he is just not a threat to OBDs, yet. Coach Smart has a heck of a tough, dangerous team. VR, KCDuck1 Go Ducks! Win, Ducks, win!
