Other schools are named, including Oregon by one pundit, but Miami probably makes the most sense. And, Beck is developed enough Cristobal probably can't screw him up. Maybe Tony Montana left some treasure troves to make up for all the pressure he'll assume down there. Cam Ward had to have 2019 Joe Burrow like numbers just to finish 10-3 in the ACC. But even if he is better than at Georgia it won't make up for the deficiencies of the rest of the team. If CAM couldn't do it, almost no one could. You don’t just come back from UCL surgery in six months. Shohei Ohtani played DH only this year, he didn’t even play in the outfield. Tommy John surgery is a big deal. I’ve had elbow surgery that wasn’t for the UCL and it took six months to start throwing soft toss. Oregon doesn’t need him. I was back East then and not paying attention but have seen alluded to here that someone didn't work all that hard to maximize Herbert's potential while he was at Oregon. My understanding is that Beck would have been the clear starter had he elected to stay. There is also some buzz that Carson and OC Mike Bobo did not see eye-to-eye. The kid gave it five years in Athens, started there for two years and gave it his all every time he walked on he field. Most Dawg fans do not think ill of Carson Beck for leaving. The OC on the other hand is a different story. At the end of his first stint as OC in Athens, Bobo may well have been one of the sharpest offensive minds in college football and he and then QB Aaron Murray lit up some scoreboards. But offenses have changed a ton since 2015 and many, perhaps most fanatic Dawg partisans think the game has passed our OC by. I suspect Beck probably feels the same way. Sure he has experience, but I think we have already seen Carson Beck's ceiling over two years. Not sold. I'm ready for some in-house developed talent. Beck was a turnover machine in 2024. He isn't close to Ward as an athlete and if MIA boosters pay the same amount for Beck as they did Ward they are making a mistake.
