We need a little fun to brighten our day, and nothing is quite like Huskies gnashing their teeth...

Riiiiiiiiiiight! 😁

Good thing the Ducks athletic program is in the black.

Or we'd be in some real trouble with the House Settlement.

Looking at those LA schools.

I don't remember where Washington sat in terms of athletic income but I know from the Pac-12 days Oregon was the top earner.

Went back to an old article of mine looking at 2022 numbers.

https://fishduck.com/2023/06/should-oregon-move-to-the-b1g-im-not-convinced/

Washington was No. 2 in the pac-12 in revenue generated but while Oregon was making money UW was not.

Is imagine now they would be in the black overall with some B1G income but Oregon should still be leading by a healthy margin.

Do Husky honks not realize the house settlement doesn't do away with NIL? 🫠

Yeah, none of these Husky tweets made any sense. Congress merely made a rule that universities themselves can't contribute more than $20.5M per year. It basically has nothing to do with NIL. The only slight difference is that schools can only allow NIL through legitimate sources.

So, for the UO that is the Division Street Collective, which is 100% legit. Phil Knight/Nike/Division Street- all good. The only other catch is that the offers to players have to have "fair market" value. Since we are only really offering 5 and 4 star players- none of that matters. "Fair Market Value" has already been pretty much defined by now.

In other words, Oregon doesn't have to do anything different when it comes to NIL...but...the athletic department can give $20.5M more to share between the different sports if it wants to.

Did we have NIL starting in 1994? Interesting logic.

The bar on NIL deals lasted about one week before the plaintiff attorneys reminded the NCAA that this was not the House settlement agreement. Thank goodness the NCAA paid attention and dropped the ban in favor of what was agreed upon, namely, NIL deal reviews, rather than blowing millions of dollars more on futile litigation.

Since being chastised by the folks they just paid half a billion dollars to, I have not heard of an NIL deal of note being rejected by the review committee. Meanwhile, Tennessee passed a law making NIL regulation unenforceable in the Volunteer State. (Huge sigh of relief heard coming from Vandy HQ. 😁)

Other schools, like Alabama for one, are not revealing the terms of NIL deals as to do so could violate federal law regarding student-athlete privacy. Right? The SEC was one of the defendant's that agreed to the settlement that Greg Sankey touted. Where was this concern over student rights when the settlement was being negotiated?

The review of every NIL deal over $600 is a recipe for more litigation. Without help from Congress, state legislatures and plaintiff lawyers (paying $500M plus to the House lawyers put blood in the water) will neuter the settlement.

No estmated valuation will come close to what SC is paying for a TE straight out of high school, who is being paid more than some TEs in the NFL. This is an egregious but not an isolated transaction. Ask the folks in Coral Gables.

I guess they choose 1994 since there is a huge hole in their memory from 2004 to 2015 when the playing field was level.

Nice to know that Husky fans now think the only way they can ever win again is with a government bailout.
