Indiana's.LEGIT! Senior laden class (many who followed Cignetti to Indiana a couple years ago) vs. a freshman laden group anchored by senior "trench monsters" for Oregon.

I think this will play out similar to the game at Autzen where defensive/ball control offenses move the ball but struggle to get points on each drive...until the fourth quarter where all bets will be off and DL and the CIG pull out all the stops to get the victory. The team who's players execute those "stops" will move on to Miami.

That being said.

OREGON WINS!

24-23 (Sappington hits the "game winner" on Ducks last possession)

2 T.O.

2 SKS.

234 Pass Yds

Now let's go get that NATTY!

This thread is not the official prediction contest that we have each week. It will not be up as a Pinned Post until Thursday, and all predictions on this thread do not count because I am not looking them up later. Got enough to do!

And pertaining to the article? Agreed...limit the sacks!

Thanks Alex.

Alex's prediction of a game played in the twenties seems plausible, considering how well both defenses played in their previous games. Defending Indiana is a different and greater challenge than defending Texas Tech, however. There has been much discussion of Oregon's offense on another thread. It seems to be me that more discussion of the challenge facing our defense might be worthwhile.

Indiana still runs a RPO (run-pass option) offense. What I was able to glean from a quick survey online is that the QB typically reads one opposing defender, usually a LB or safety. The concept is to put the defender in a dilemma: if he plays pass, the box is too light; if he plays run, the short passes are open. There are various ways to defend it, but it appears to me the decision-making of the LB or safety is crucial. I am hoping that Thienemann is the player who is read, but Cig may not oblige us in that way. Often the player read is the weak side LB, which I believe would be Mixon.

One Indiana website noted that Indiana's RPOs are much less effective in third and long situations, because the run option threat is not convincing. Joel Klatt also noted that Indiana is good on third down because they are good on earlier downs. To use a baseball analogy, it is important to throw a first pitch strike to this hitter.

I am interested to know what the coaches, players and other experts have to say, if anyone has the time.

I know Indiana is a threat every game.

My real concern is more centered around which version of our Ducks shows up.

Exactly what I was thinking..... but people are having fun.

I wonder how many of these predictions might change with new news coming out.

IU wins 24 - 21. This is going to be a bit of a defensive battle, with neither offense looking particularly sharp (because both defenses came to play). But the winner of this game will win the natty over Miami. Just saying....

No.

Since this IS NOT the official prediction thread I think Indiana wins because there are too many distractions going on with Oregon, way too many.

I think Dante will need to throw for 300 yards in this game and our receivers will need to go up and make plays downfield which they have done all year when called upon. 1 on 1 is all they need - even if covered.

Max protect with two tight ends who then become check downs. Stein and Moore need to look for the home run first and let it rip! Otherwise, you'll never loosen up this defense. Keeping the secondary back a couple steps for a half second longer could open up an additional 2-3 yards per carry.

Thanks, I'll wait for Charles' prediction contest.

Alex, do you have a response to the predictions different than yours?

No.

Thank you for the ponder points! I too will put me prediction in the correct thread for it.

Since we don’t have JD, the RB room will need to step it up in his absence. It will be imperative that DM has the time to hit our TE tandem over the middle for 6 and 8 yard gains early and often.

That should soften the Hoosier run defense enough that we can rush for 150 yards or more. If that happens, DM can air it out to the WRs for 3 to 5 explosion plays.

OBD needs to put together one of their best games in every aspect, O, D, ST, and coaching.

If ALL Ducks (including coaching staff) play the game to OBD standard we have a chance to blow them out of the Peach Bowl. If not, we fans need to prepare for a long and uncomfortable day.
