Charles Fischer Administrator No. 1 Share Posted January 31, 2022 If he was a starter....great. But I am not keen on getting a reserve, somebody's Sloppy-Seconds. Perhaps he can be coached up? Vanducky No. 2 Share Posted January 31, 2022 I don't like what this implies about the staff's confidence with other recruiting targets. Riley played less than 100 total snaps in the past two years for a Nebraska team that finished a combined 6-14. Scholarships are limited and valuable commodities.
David Marsh No. 3 Share Posted January 31, 2022 I'm going to trust the staff on this one... well we kinda have to regardless we don't get to be in the room for these decisions. He has the size but he does need to be coached up, granted the fact that we have his former and again current DL coach doesn't make me terribly confident but maybe a change in scheme will change things as well. But he does have the size... and you can't teach size.

Drake Moderator No. 5 Share Posted January 31, 2022 Hmmmm…..A big body DL guy that has potential to allow our LB’s to play more aggressive….I say welcome to Eugene.

Vanducky No. 7 Share Posted January 31, 2022 I've seen speculation elsewhere that Lanning might be punting on additional HS defensive linemen this cycle and keeping his powder dry for next year when the staff will have a full year to work their magic. Riley has one year of eligibility left so he's a big body without a multi-year scholarship commitment. Might make sense to focus on high-end recruits next year rather than picking over the scrap heap now for players that will likely never be difference makers. But I think I'd still prefer to hold on to the scholarship and see if anyone interesting shakes loose in the transfer portal after spring practices. 3

Part of the idea behind the Dallas Warmack transfer was that he knew what MC wanted out of the O-line. Seemed to work out ok for all involved.
1Funduck No. 10 Share Posted February 1, 2022 I have no idea about this kid, however, not only can you not teach size, but you can't teach age. Adults at 21 act different than at 18. DL will also get a pass thus next year as he puts his kids in place.
Duck 1972 No. 11 Share Posted February 1, 2022 (edited) Heard DL Miller dropped us out of contention. This makes even more sense along with above comments. Edited February 1, 2022 by Duck 1972 Missing info
Haywarduck Moderator No. 12 Share Posted February 1, 2022 A big body, mature body who has one year to play. I think it is a great risk to take. An amazing get by the staff, well done!
