  1. Past hour
  2. Oregon has done well. They have positioned themselves near the top of college football in the minds of highschool recruits and portal transfers. The leadership at UO and Nike have been brilliant at maneuvering in this rapidly changing landscape driven by money and power. There are so many layers to the college game outside of fall saturdays. Oregon has played this game as well as any other program in the country. From NIL to conference realignment to portal transfers, Oregon is at the top of the game. Now they just need it to translate on the field. With the massive changes in the game there will be a ton of losers and a few winners. Looks like Oregon is in the winners bracket. With the culling of the herd and Oregon leaderships ability to see around corners of an ever changing landscape, Oregon will continue to attract a high level of blue chip talent. In the end, there will be only two conferences elite talent will be looking to. Oregon, so it seems, is perceived as one of the elites of the Big 2 in the minds of recruits. Oregon is in position to become the elite program of the west. That is a huge advantage over Trojan and Fusky. It appears soon Oregon will be on equal footing as UGA, tOSU, Bama, Mich... So these visits and increasing commitments of elite talent, to me, isn't surprising. I said it months ago, Lanning and the Ducks will simply reload every year. Soon, instead of me saying at the end of seasons "we are losing this guy or that", I will be saying "ok... who's next". And that's pretty cool!
  3. I think a big part of Nebraska's problem is that talent isn't afraid of distance as much as they used to be. Texas and Midwestern talent would go to Nebraska because it was a rather close destination for a good program (they were good back then). Now if you're a Texas or Midwestern kid and you're offered Nebraska or Oregon which might you consider? Especially if you didn't grow up a big Nebraska fan.
  4. Today
  5. I truly believe that Lanning is very close to that hallowed ground that Saban and Carroll were in.......he is not recruiting......he is selecting. Once you enter this ground you don't rebuild, you reload. All that is left is to win a NC. Once he does that he'll be able to have 5 star folks at backup positions across the board. He is close....very close.
  6. What is a small class anymore? I'd guess a class of at least 24-25. A look at a post spring two-deep shows 23 seniors (Holden, Johnson, Harper, Bedford, Cornelius, Ferguson, Gabriel, Burch, Caldwell, Harmon, Bassa, Jacobs, Muhammad, Alexander, Tysheem J., Brandon J., Savage, Manning, Reed, Ware-Hudson, Herbert, Strother, Silva) plus Soelle (unless he is on a NIL deal) and Boettcher (who has to be on football scholarship if he returns and is still listed post spring on the GoDucks roster). In addition, one spot that just has to be considered uncertain due to legal concerns. There have to be at least 3 more guys who, with expected big seasons, could test the NFL waters in Conerly, Stewart, and James. Given the huge number of seniors expected to start this fall, one might expect the Duck staff to be working the portal pretty heavily for 2025 (and possibly holding extra spots open); but, that isn't necessarily required as transfers in can always be balanced with transfers out. I guess one could suggest among the young guys, there isn't a ton the staff isn't going to try and hang onto; but, I'd probably argue it is equally hard to say no and stop at 18 or 19 recruits when there are 5-6 more blue-chippers ready to sign (a good problem to have for sure).
  7. The word is, we backed off, recruiting him with using the scholarships of the recent offensive line high school verbals.
  8. Isn’t this impossible to know? Have to think there will be some portal churn of 4 star guys that leave because of playing time. Could be 5, could be 25.
  9. Kansas lands Texas A&M transfer Bryce Foster 247SPORTS.COM The Jayhawks have landed one of the top available players in the portal.
  10. Still waiting . . . what's been, 6 months and counting?
  11. Not really surprising. He'll probably compete for a starting spot there whereas he'll probably be a backup for the Ducks. It also sounds like he'd have an NIL scholarship with the Ducks. So basically be a walk on.
  12. Within 5 years, poof ACC, Big12 are no more. The viable members will split up and join the SEC and B10. TV forces a merger into 2 leagues (think NFC and AFC) combined 48 to 60 teams.
  13. Not only the seeding but also the locations of the games. 4 game sites are in Dixie. The title game is in Atlanta and many of the Playoff predictions would have SEC teams hosting 3 of the 4 1st-round games. Other than assuring that an undefeated P4 champ will not be left out, the Playoff format for 2024-25 and 2025-26 will foment many unhappy campers.
  14. Yesterday
  15. In addition to recognizing a wonderful Duck, the video highlights the awesome world class facility Hayward Field. I love the interaction between coach and athlete. The Respect for each other.
  16. That probably helps explain the seeming hyperfocus on high end blue chips only. DL and the staff are swinging for the fences and I love it.
  17. I read that as well. Between the big high school classes, and in particular, the portal classes--not as much room.
  18. I heard that the 2025 class may be smaller than previous years because of how the roster is right now. Can anyone confirm?
  19. The Oregon football program will host nine of the nation's best 2025 recruits for official visits this weekend. Check out the HUDL films of Oregon's June 14 official visitors 247SPORTS.COM The Oregon football program will host nine of the nation's best 2025 recruits for official visits this weekend. The visits will get underway on June 14.
  20. On another site, they reported a list of the ten recruits visiting this weekend and it blew me away. High 4-Star and 5-Star players deciding between the biggest programs, and Oregon is right in there. Next weekend is a list nearly double, and between the two weekends...one pundit said, "that is a future list of All-Americans being recruited." For Oregon to be so strong in the mix has me again shaking my head at our good fortune with Dan Lanning. There is not a single 3-Star visiting over the next two weeks, although I do love the project guys that we develop. The point is--the quality on the Oregon campus is so much higher than when even Cristobal was recruiting, and he was pretty darn good. Whew! We gotta count our Blessings... What a great time to be a Duck!
  21. This is the second post of a series about when Alabama was looking at Oregon's Dan Lanning, and then hiring DeBoer from Washington. The first one dealt with Husky fans enjoying how Oregon would lose Lanning, and this one is from a Husky site right after Coach Dan Lanning posted the announcement video of how "The Grass is Greener at Oregon." DeBoer to Alabama had not happened yet, so the feelings from Washington fans at that moment was one of tortured waiting, and below are their comments about the video and Lanning. Look, you know I'm a sicko for this stuff...but it is the off-season, it is great entertainment, and seeing Huskies-in-horror is fun. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Join me at Oregon! "Lanning can’t possibly have better judgment than DeBoer, right? Certainly would be the first time that’s happened…" "Kudos to Lanning, man of his word." "Credit to Oregon ... they took advantage of this chaos and turned it into a strong message from Lanning." "Lanning has come out with strong statements multiple times during his tenure at Oregon. Wish DeBoer would do that." "The reality is that for the past 18 hours or so, nearly every site had Lanning as the top target. So the perception, right or wrong, is going to be that Lanning turned Alabama down. And Oregon-Lanning leaned into that masterfully with the video released a few minutes ago. Now it's UW's / DeBoer's turn to create that same perception." Huskies about to get it from DeBoer...
  22. And he has an impressive list of schools that have offered, include our old friend in Miami, who does know a thing or two about offensive lineman. Glad that he grew up a Ducks fan and gets to play in Eugene. I’ll be cheering for him and hope he’s able to accomplish all of his goals here.
  23. 2007 Duck football team named one of the most influential in history DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Chip Kelly’s first season in Eugene as the offensive coordinator changed Duck history and college football forever.
  24. Per CBS Sneaky-Good Commit: IOL Demetri Manning to Oregon If anyone needs any further proof that Dan Lanning is building an SEC-like program out West, look no further than Manning's commitment. Kirby Smart has done his best to hoard mass at Georgia, and his protege Lanning is starting to do the same at Oregon. Three-star lineman Demetri Manning, who picked the Ducks over Washington and Miami on June 11, is one of the largest prospects that we have come across in the 2025 cycle as he tips the scales at just over 6-foot-6, 345 pounds. He's going to need to melt down and get the body right once he arrives on campus, but Oregon could potentially pair him up front with another monster of a human in Class of 2024 signee JacQawn McRoy (6-foot-6, 365 pounds) at some point down the line.
