  2. Would you believe i used to pride myself on my spelling and proofreading? Im getting old, and my thumbs are getting fatter!
  3. Bye, especially for them as they haven't had any real hitting yet, and now two weeks of hitting each other. With this team, I am not worried about teams having byes before playing us. I just want our bye at the right time for us.
  4. Back in the day when RBs were king, Willhite was thought to potentially be a Hershal Walker, Marcus Allen, Eric Dickerson level recruit. He was named the HS player of the year over the likes of Marcus Dupree and Bo Jackson. Some services, back in the Prepstar, Superprep, Parade days had him #1 not just at RB but overall. Shocked the college football world flipping to Oregon on signing day. He had run a 10.5 100 meter and 20.8 200 meter in high school and apparently had dreams of running in the 1984 Olympics in LA, planning to pursue both football and track. Track was not near as big at UW and apparently there was some question whether Don James would really allow Willhite out of Spring practice to fully participate. Stories go when there were rumors Willhite was wavering on his UW committment, the Huskies sent their top recruiter down to Sacramento to lock things up on LOI day (Al Roberts) and he arrived at 7am to a Duck assistant coach (Jim Skipper) already there. Roberts reported asked Skipper why he was there and Skipper told him "He never told me no". Anyway, the short version of the rest of the story is he badly injured his hamstring as a high school senior running track and reinjured it at the opening of his first camp. Couldn't run for months and missed both his freshman football and track season. From there, battled injuries, struggled with "conditioning", and the dreaded "attitude" questions. Never recovered his speed with a top 10.92 100 meter time before leaving track, and ended up a fullback at Oregon, playing more finally as a senior where Brooks himself remarked he "had become a pretty good fullback for our team". Ended up his Oregon career with 182 carries for 731 yards (4.0) and 2 TDs. I think I put Willhite at the top because it was during a period of Oregon football I guess is sometimes referred to as "the suffering" from about 1967 to the Independence Bowl in 1989. Oregon went 89-146-6 over the period and without a bowl. The decade prior they had gone 59-38-5 with a Sun and Liberty Bowl. Willhite in 1982 was supposed to be the level of recruit that was going to turn things around. Rich Brooks famously was quoted during a preseason press session in 1987 ending his period of questions with, "Today is the first time in six years I haven't had a Kevin Willhite question." (After the laughter apparently died down, Rich went on to say, "I'm here to tell you Kevin Willhite is a graduate of the University of Oregon and I'm proud of that. He was not a total failure like some writers have said in the past several years." The Willhite saga was a pretty huge deal.)

  6. Archie Manning was a great QB for the Saints the 80s. ARCH Manning is Archie’s oldest son’s kid—not Eli’s or Peyton’s kid—Cooper’s kid. Have you ever heard of Cooper? Definitely not. I only know Cooper bc I went to Newman School with Peyton since preschool and Cooper was by far the cutest of the brothers. He also wasn’t very good at football. Maybe he took after his mom? 🤷‍♀️ Regardless, ARCH Manning is not very good.
  7. No mention of DM at all in the mid-week injury update. Hmm... https://duckswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/ducks/football/2025/09/18/oregons-midweek-injury-update-for-week-4-game-vs-oregon-state/86217924007/
  8. Bye. This young team needs more in game experience.

  10. I would agree with you David. Except later in the season a bye is good to rest the bodies from a very physical sport. It gives some a chance to allow dings to heal especially before a big game opponent. Too.bad the Ducks have a lot of games with opponents have that chance to rest before playing our Ducks.
  11. Bye... At least the Ducks get to play a real game and go through the real motions and hit people. Hard to reach tackling when you don't tackle to the ground. Only way to reasonably get those reps is in a game.

  13. As long as Oregon wants 7 home games each year, the home-and-home with Oregon State limits their options for other Power4 opponents which also want to schedule home-and-home. In a season with 4 Big Ten home games, and a game with OSU at Autzen, that means 2 other non-conference games have to be at Autzen to get to 7. Then, the following year when Oregon has 5 Big Ten home games and Oregon State is a road game, that still means the other 2 games have to be at Autzen to get to 7. So, which Power 4 school wants to play at Autzen 2 years in a row rather than home-and-home so the non-conference game with the Beavers stays home-and-home, and Oregon keeps 7 home games? Iowa plays Iowa State every year non-conference, home-and-home, and Iowa's last Power4 opponent other than ISU was Pitt. But, it was the year before the Big Ten went to a 9-game schedule. Logistically, 9 Big Ten games, and desire for 7 home games, means an annual home-and-home with OSU would limit games with other Power4 non-conference programs. Oregon would be better off, in my opinion, to avoid annual games with OSU and schedule non-conference home-and-home with Utah, Cal, Arizona, ASU - locations where Oregon has alums as fans, and coaches desire to recruit. Games with the Beavers could still occur but just less often in lieu of playing UU, UA, ASU, Cal in that slot.
  14. 30Duck brought this up on the phone; a bye for Penn State, after playing three cupcakes, doesn’t help them. On the other hand, playing Beavis has dubious value, as an intersquad scrimmage would be tougher. I think the Bye is worse, but I’m curious if other Duck-Buddies feel the same? So he posed that question to me—which is worse? The Bye or Beavis?
  15. A pound of Beaver flesh. Plus turnovers. Heavy OL line push. Stingy DL play. No injuries.
  16. I want Dan to walk away from this game saying "Boys, I think were ready for Penn State".
  17. What I want out of this game is for Dante, all of our starters, to be done at halftime.

  19. Penn St. gets an unfair scheduled bye this week before the game. First odds already posted for No. 6 Oregon at No. 2 Penn StateIt's a clash of Top Ten teams and preseason conferences favorites, both 3-0 with PSU enjoying a bye this weekend, the Ducks at home against Oregon State Saturday in Autzen Stadium. Oddsmaker CricaSports released the betting line Thursday, installing the Nittany Lions as a three-point favorite. Autzen ZooOdds already posted for No. 6 Oregon at No. 2 Penn StateA rematch of last season's Big Ten Championship Game, won by the Ducks 45-37, Oregon travels to Penn State for a White Out night game on September 27.
  20. Wichita was a major disappointment after his injury... Former Cali Prep athlete of the year who had personal bests of 20.8 @ 200m/10.5 @ 100m. At Cordova HS, Wilhite had 4902 yards rushing and 70+ tds as a RB. His career at Oregon was disappointing after he suffered a massive hamstring tear his hs senior track campaign, followed by multiple injuries his freshman campaign with the Ducks.
  21. All of those things help in the same way that a good screen game will help all of those other things. It’s a symbiotic relationship.
  22. The Beavs are now basically the equivalent of playing PSU... and no insult to PSU intended. Everything has changed so much that, frankly, the only reason I can see the game regularly continuing is if it's totally to the benefit of OBD.
  23. This one is longer, but explains a ton using Oregon's Jamaree Caldwell as the example for defensive line performance. Good stuff!
  24. This first one is Jon Gruden explaining "techniques" on defense, and is quite helpful.
  25. Ah yes, the oregon legislature. Forgot about that, good point.
  26. Getting picked last was more metaphorical, but if they had to get picked, it would have been tied for "last" with WSU. Joining the new Pac-12 is certainly being picked last, in spirit. True, that would a definite road experience.
  27. 25-35 point beatdowns if they're lucky. Might see an Oklahoma Statle like beat down. Oooooh those OSUs!
