CFP Rankings 11/25 - Oregon at No. 6
Man vs. Machine. The committee has come 4th with a ranking we can translate to a 12-team PO field and compare the committee's rankings with the Massey Computer rankings. COMMITTEE MASSEY 1. Ohio State 1. Ohio State 2. Indiana 2. Indiana 3. A&M 3. Oregon +3 4. Georgia 4. Georgia 5. TX Tech 5. A&M -2 6. Oregon 6. Notre Dame +3 7. Ole Miss 7. Alabama +3 8. Oklahoma 8. Ole Miss -1 9. No. Dame 9. Oklahoma -1 10. Alabama 10. TX Tech -5 11. Miami 17. Miami +6 12. Tulane 37. Tulane -25 (Massey would have No. 36 JMU at 12.) The Massey Computer has no concern over OBD's schedule, but is concerned about the Texas Tech schedule. SOS: OBD 20 - TX Tech 51 With a game left at Washington, Massey No. 19, OBD will finish with a schedule ranked 15. With a game left at West Virginia, Massey No. 66, the Red Raiders finish with the 54th most difficult schedule. Massey's Computer Ratings are well respected. Can the Committee's machines be that much different from Massey's? If so, we'll never know. The computer favors 2-loss Notre Dame, No. 6, over 2-loss No. 17 Miami by 11 spots. So much for head-to-head results. In this case, it looks like the Committee's computers agree with Massey. Again, we'll never know. Committee - 5 SEC, 3 B1G, 1 ACC, B12, Notre Dame, G6. Massey - 5 SEC, 3 B1G, 1 ACC, B12, Notre Dame, G6. The same number of conference members in the PO fields, with a higher Massey seeding for OBD and far lower for Texas Tech. The Committee is far more impressed by the B12 than is Massey. 3-loss ASU and Arizona are ranked, and not 3-loss Washington? 8-3 Washington, Massey No. 19/SOS 39. UW 12 game SOS - 24 (The power of OBD) 8-3 ASU, Massey No. 24/ 31 SOS has a Week 13 case. ASU 12 game SOS - 35 8-3 Arizona, Massey No. 28/SOS 53, when compared to UW, has a weak Week 13 case, and a weaker than UW, Week 14 case. AZ 12 game SOS - 51 If the Committee's metrics are not much different than Massey, and how much data input difference can there be, the Gurus of Grapevine use metrics when they so choose, and go by their gut when they want to. Greg Sankey may well have access to the Committee metrics. 'Logically," there can't be anything justifying Alabama with four wins against the Committee's top 25, being ranked on the cusp at No. 10. Sankey's 2024-25 concerns over the Committee valuing a team's losses and what teams you lost to more than what teams you defeated, seems to have continued into this season, enhanced metrics or not. Back channel, and with ESPN extending the new PO format date from December 1st to January 23, 2026, between the SEC and the B1G are likely happening, with the SEC with no objection from one bid ACC and B12, possibly moving closer to an automatic qualifier (AQ) PO format. Another thing moving the parties toward an AQ, many programs are making it known that a 13th conference champ game is not a reward for teams looking forward to a 16 or 17 game season. With all teams ranked above OBD being strong favorites in Week 14, OBD may have reached its PO zenith at No. 6. Mari-oh-oh in Autzen? Bring It On! GO DUCKS! Waste Washington!

Wilcox has had a very solid D most of his time at Cal with pretty mediocre talent overall. He really had their D humming at an elite level, then cratered in the immediate post-pandemic world, but had built it back up. In the 2024 season, the Cal defense ranked 14th in scoring defense, 2nd in turnover margin, and 23rd in sacks nationally during the season. At Cal! Now he wasn’t DC, but it’s clearly his trademark. I think he’d be an upgrade personally.

For me, we’ve been mostly borderline unwatchable since 2020, we just don’t play a modern brand of basketball imo. My expectation every season, was/is/and continues to be 12+ losses and being on the bubble. I’ll continue to watch, but we don’t seem to be very serious about basketball overall. If we’re cool with the above, it is what it is. Love me some historic Dana, but I’m not sure about 2025 Dana if we want to ever actually pursue a title.

How Will Stein Messes With Defenders
Nobody stops Davison with an arm tackle. He really has good vision, and is elusive for a big guy. A lot of big backs in high school just run over smaller defensive backs. Look forward to watching him become our feature back.

Constraint plays would also be awesome with Dante Moore faking the toss to the left and then attacking the right with a RPO (run or pass).

Yikes! Oregon Beat by San Diego State 97-80
The crazy thing is that Oregon has some pretty good athletes, so you would think at least the defense would be average, as a lot of that comes down to effort. That was the best SDSU has shot from the floor in 13 years. That was by far the worst defensive effort by an Altman team in his time at Oregon. This SDSU team got beat by Troy at home and was throttled by 40 against Michigan.

Actually, TT deserves to be ranked above Oregon: They lost on the road to #20 ASU in a close game. They thashed all their other opponents on their schedule. Including #14 Utah at Rice Eccles and #11 BYU at home. We lost at home to #2 IU and of course we just beat a ranked USC at home. That's our resume. Their were teams like Whisky and Iowa that we won but did not thrash. As we know the Ducks SOS is much higher than TT! But scoreboard tells the story and TT just squeaks past us. I don't expect TT to lose in their last 2 games. Which is fine, we need the buffer between us and the top 4. But I dont want to get ahead of myself. OBD's must beat the huskies. GO DUCKS......

CBS hits home run with mind-blowing ratings for Oregon-USC Week 13 matchupNot only did the Ducks prevail with a 42-27 win against Lincoln Riley's Trojans, it was also a win for CBS in terms of viewership. The network, which carried the 3:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. PT telecast, was the second-highest rated college football game of this past week, per On3. And rightfully so, as both teams were fighting for its College Football Playoff. Although the Ducks came away with the win, 5.43 million people got to see two of the Big Ten's best in a meaningful game. Sometimes, CBS doesn't always hit it out of the park. However, their selection did. CBS hits home run with mind-blowing ratings for Oregon-US...Oregon-USC may be past history, given that the game is now three days old. But, in the grand scheme of things, it's a victory for CBS.

Will Stein To Arkansas??
They are the only team with two home stadiums. That's gotta count for something....maybe... that's all I got.🥸 They had a couple good years under Houston Nutt. Florida beat them in the 2006 SEC title game, and whooped Ohio State to win the National Title.

I'm Rooting For Ohio State...
Being forced to play in the Championship game, and then sitting "the guys who need rest" would never be what Lanning or the players would want to do because the consequences of losing that unwanted extra game could easily result in not getting a 1st round home game. So if Ohio St loses and we're forced to play in the championship game, then we would need to fully commit to win it against what would then be the #1 ranked and undefeated Indiana - and if successful, we would have avenged our only season loss AND get a first round bye AND get a home game in the second round. So, no, I really don't want to be forced into that dangerous extra game, but if that's the way it turns out, then we will have to commit absolutely EVERYTHING to winning it!

I don't think playing Alabama in the playoffs is an easy win. I'll take another conf champ game - just don't play the guys who need the rest and rehab. Other teams are banged up too.

Play Creighton in the "0-2 championship" and it sounds like Creighton (at the link) has similar problems. https://archive.ph/AEGWm Creighton lost twice in Vegas by similar margins of Oregon's losses. The Ducks face Creighton at 11:00 am, Thanksgiving Day, on TruTV. Creighton's already played Gonzaga and lost 63-90. The way Oregon played tonight, I might be happy with a 27-pt loss. We'll have to see how badly Bittle's ankle injury may be. The Aztecs made 39 of 58 (67%) from the field, 11 of 23 (48%) from 3-point range, against the Ducks. Michigan beat SDSU by 40. Those could be some long plane rides home from the Midwest for the Ducks if score comparisons predict the future. That 67% was the highest ever allowed by a Dana Altman Ducks team. 8 different Aztecs were over 50%. The Ducks were 28% from 2-pt range in the second half.

Oregon Football: The X-Factor Vs. Washington
Washington is a good team in all phases, but not a threat to beat the top teams. The can certainly stay in it though. Oregon has been over achieving in the running game and doing well in the passing game, and also pretty good on run defense. But pass defense has been pretty under par. From linebackers not keeping up in man coverage, to too many PI calls, some receivers left open, not defending jump balls and the disappointing lack of pass rush, my X factor is somebody doing better. Anybody. So I will pick Mr Canady to come through. He seems fairly active and he looks like he knows what he is doing out there. I don't recall a game where I thought he was a liability or an under achiever. Sometimes it is this kind of player who steps up and becomes a leader on the field. But I expect this game to be one of those where I think the Ducks are pretty close to putting it together, but still have some work to do. Overall talent should carry the Ducks to victory.
