  2. Lanning was great, Canzano hmmm?
  3. Jim Mora is back in the Pac-12 (technically speaking). ESPN.comUConn's Mora leaving to coach Colorado StateUConn coach Jim Mora is leaving the school to become the next head coach at Colorado State.
  4. I know, I know, you think Conzano is a Beaver honk, so you turn off at the sight of his name. I don't. Been a John Conzano subscriber for years, ignoring any perceived loyalties, and just enjoying an experienced sports news guy who has a heart. This interview, linked below, I hope, shows why Conzano is one of the most outstanding communicators in sports today. Enjoy! https://open.substack.com/pub/johncanzano/p/canzano-dan-lanning-says-he-never?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email

  6. North Texas HC Eric Morris is moving on and up and will be on the sidelines when OBD visits Stillwater in 2026. I expect he will bring many Mean Green players along with him. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/oklahoma-state-eric-morris-coach-north-texas-mike-gundy/?ftag=SNL-04-10aaa0b&ET_CID=493117&ET_RID=52482716
  7. Basket ball needs SHOOTERS that can make BASKETS.---just sayin
  8. That was painful to watch. It seems these players lack confidence. They can't seem to get the ball inside, and when they do they often can't finish. I heard Altman said "we can't guard our own shadow". Maybe a little harsh, but how else do you explain a team shooting nearly 70% against you? All the fast break dunks? Yikes. It feels like they've taken a step backwards. I can't deny Dana's success, but one might wonder if the modern game with the portal and NIL has passed him by.
  9. Yeah, we all know about the piddly jobs open like LSU, Florida, and Penn State. Virginia Tech got the ten win man with Franklin, no Ohio State, Michigan, or Oregon to worry about in the ACC. Oklahoma State got the other Morris(not Chad). UCLA is looking for a Kenny Chesney song. But who is going to take the jobs at Beavis, and Woo Piggie?
  10. Screw all this debating about teams, let the fans vote! Each vote costs a dollar and the top 12 vote getters are in! (Also the vote money goes into my bank account!) Make it like dancing with the stars! It is not about the best team, its about the most popular team anyway. I am joking, but I could see this happening years down the road. Remember the movie Idiocracy?
  11. If you play Alabama in the first round, or Georgia, should they lose to Tech and still get in. Beat the Finebaum out of them please.
  12. That was a great explanation. I hadn't noticed Dante pivoting right side when it was live. Though it also looked like USuC linebacker #18 was bored on the play. I have never seen our Bryce Boetcher chase down a play with such a lackluster effort.
  13. This game has me worried a bit. This is Washington's super bowl this year and their players and fans will be ready. It's a rivalry game and if Oregon is not mentally prepared for this environment after the USC game, we may see some stunned looks on the sidelines. I'm excited, because this may be our best apples to apples to comparison with Ohio State so far this year. I want us to look impressive and stay ahead of Ole Miss in the CFP rankings and maybe leap frog Texas Tech. There's an outside shot BIG still finishes 1-2-3 in the final rankings heading into the CFP. This happens when Texas beats Texas A&M, Alabama beats Georgia again in the SEC title game, B1G Championship is very close, and Texas Tech trips up.
  14. I get head to head has to matter, but it can't be absolute. Miami squeaked by Notre Dame with a 3 point win, even though ND had 2 TOs vs none to Miami. That isn't total dominance. Massey SOS Miami 50 Notre Dame 29 ESPN SOS Miami 48 Notre Dame 34 ESPN FPI Miami 10 (19.0) Notre Dame 3 (24.9) ESPN SP+ Miami 11 (20.2) Notre Dame 5 (24.3) Every computer score says Notre Dame is the better team over Miami. If Miami had won by 14+, then it is a different story.
  15. One example. Massey Rankings Oregon SOS No. 20. Texas Tech's SOS is ranked 51st by Massey. The Committee's metrics cannot be that much different than Massey's. The Massey rankings take every meaningful CFB stat into play, except perhaps for the color of the Red Raiders' socks.😁 This is not a Playoff. It is bowl extrvaganza owned and operated by a media entity. The CBB Committee throughout the season lets fans know the quality of wins and losses across 4 quadrants. But they have one top 16 sneak peek before 'judgement day' and that's it; not a six week sideshow. I sense support for the Big Ten's PO format growing.
  16. Great example of what the pistol can and should do. It's about deception and flexibility. The Cristobal version used it like the spread offense version of the i-formation which it isn't. The pistol under Cristobal was predictable... It always sent the runner into the A-gap in a power run... But unlike the i-formation the runner is even farther back and the defense knowing it's coming could send someone around the side to stop the run from behind. Love seeing the pistol under Stein because it is a wild card... The play could go anywhere.
  17. Though Matayo's sacks are down from last year, I believe his TFL's are on par. For PFF fans, he actually grades higher this season. The pass rush this year seems to be better at creating a cage and squeezing in than last year's team. Last year, we saw edge rushers often get too far upfield and allow the QB to leak out of pressure laterally. While that may mean fewer sacks, it is also true that most teams are trying to release the ball before the sack gets home. Better to contain and get hands up to tip passes than to over pursue and leave escape lanes.
  18. I'd like to hear what the players have to say about their performance, and how they feel about representing the University of Oregon. Just curious.
  19. ewe dub D, what to expect What the Oregon Ducks should expect from Washington Huskies' defense on O What the Oregon Ducks should expect from Washington Huskies' offense
  20. I completely disagree. Oregon’s strength of schedule is rated higher than all those teams and our only loss is to #2 Indiana. Coach Lanning does not care about margin of victory. He is perfectly content to put the 3/4s in the 4th quarter or play a low scoring slugfest, if that’s what’s called for.
  21. Or, clean out your tire chains.
  22. Agreed. But Indy could win the BIG and then the 4/5 is Ok. But I definitely want osu last. A chance someone else pulls a miracle and we do not have to face then. Or a BIG Natty and revenge game for OBD
  23. Man vs. Machine. The committee has come 4th with a ranking we can translate to a 12-team PO field and compare the committee's rankings with the Massey Computer rankings. COMMITTEE MASSEY 1. Ohio State 1. Ohio State 2. Indiana 2. Indiana 3. A&M 3. Oregon +3 4. Georgia 4. Georgia 5. TX Tech 5. A&M -2 6. Oregon 6. Notre Dame +3 7. Ole Miss 7. Alabama +3 8. Oklahoma 8. Ole Miss -1 9. No. Dame 9. Oklahoma -1 10. Alabama 10. TX Tech -5 11. Miami 17. Miami +6 12. Tulane 37. Tulane -25 (Massey would have No. 36 JMU at 12.) The Massey Computer has no concern over OBD's schedule, but is concerned about the Texas Tech schedule. SOS: OBD 20 - TX Tech 51 With a game left at Washington, Massey No. 19, OBD will finish with a schedule ranked 15. With a game left at West Virginia, Massey No. 66, the Red Raiders finish with the 54th most difficult schedule. Massey's Computer Ratings are well respected. Can the Committee's machines be that much different from Massey's? If so, we'll never know. The computer favors 2-loss Notre Dame, No. 6, over 2-loss No. 17 Miami by 11 spots. So much for head-to-head results. In this case, it looks like the Committee's computers agree with Massey. Again, we'll never know. Committee - 5 SEC, 3 B1G, 1 ACC, B12, Notre Dame, G6. Massey - 5 SEC, 3 B1G, 1 ACC, B12, Notre Dame, G6. The same number of conference members in the PO fields, with a higher Massey seeding for OBD and far lower for Texas Tech. The Committee is far more impressed by the B12 than is Massey. 3-loss ASU and Arizona are ranked, and not 3-loss Washington? 8-3 Washington, Massey No. 19/SOS 39. UW 12 game SOS - 24 (The power of OBD) 8-3 ASU, Massey No. 24/ 31 SOS has a Week 13 case. ASU 12 game SOS - 35 8-3 Arizona, Massey No. 28/SOS 53, when compared to UW, has a weak Week 13 case, and a weaker than UW, Week 14 case. AZ 12 game SOS - 51 If the Committee's metrics are not much different than Massey, and how much data input difference can there be, the Gurus of Grapevine use metrics when they so choose, and go by their gut when they want to. Greg Sankey may well have access to the Committee metrics. 'Logically," there can't be anything justifying Alabama with four wins against the Committee's top 25, being ranked on the cusp at No. 10. Sankey's 2024-25 concerns over the Committee valuing a team's losses and what teams you lost to more than what teams you defeated, seems to have continued into this season, enhanced metrics or not. Back channel, and with ESPN extending the new PO format date from December 1st to January 23, 2026, between the SEC and the B1G are likely happening, with the SEC with no objection from one bid ACC and B12, possibly moving closer to an automatic qualifier (AQ) PO format. Another thing moving the parties toward an AQ, many programs are making it known that a 13th conference champ game is not a reward for teams looking forward to a 16 or 17 game season. With all teams ranked above OBD being strong favorites in Week 14, OBD may have reached its PO zenith at No. 6. Mari-oh-oh in Autzen? Bring It On! GO DUCKS! Waste Washington!

  26. Wilcox has had a very solid D most of his time at Cal with pretty mediocre talent overall. He really had their D humming at an elite level, then cratered in the immediate post-pandemic world, but had built it back up. In the 2024 season, the Cal defense ranked 14th in scoring defense, 2nd in turnover margin, and 23rd in sacks nationally during the season. At Cal! Now he wasn’t DC, but it’s clearly his trademark. I think he’d be an upgrade personally.
