  2. So Oregon has made 14 MILLION for the conference?! Shouldn't we be treated a little better?
  3. Lots of assumptions with only a few facts in this thread. Hard to disregard Williams’ missing the memorial for a teammate, but I will. Just suppose he wanted to renegotiate his NIL, and was denied. So his agent said: “Enter the portal and see what kind of offers we can get for bargaining stock.”
  4. I have my doubts that Dan Lanning would play a player who has opted for the Transfer Portal. JMHO
  5. I think we have enough in the run & screen game to implement an AR offense. AI-No, you don't needa traditional, heavy running game for an Air Raid offense, as it's primarily pass-focused, but a complementary, simple run game (like inside zone, counters) and effective screens are crucial for balance, keeping defenses honest, and creating opportunities for receivers by stressing defenders horizontally and vertically, turning quick passes into effective "runs". The goal is to use minimal run plays, practiced efficiently, to complement the passing game, not replace it, with RPOs and QB runs also adding elements.

  7. For this Mariners fan growing up in the 90s it was sweet Lou Piniella. One thing I love about baseball are the blowups by the managers, it isn't something that should actually be celebrated since it's awful behavior letting an adult act like a 3 year old having a tantrum, but all the great ejections are legendary, from kicking caps, drawing lines on the dirt, to literally stealing first base like Lloyd McClendon did. For what the article was about, it is definitely something to consider, Indiana has been one of the least penalized teams, but if they start pushing off or hitting the QB late, it's something that Lanning should be in the ear of the officials about.
  8. Correction regarding PO payouts, which are paid to a qualifying team's conference (and directly to Notre Dame 🤮). $4 million for making the field $4 million for teams in the quarterfinals, including teams with byes. $6 million for the semifinals $6 million for the championship game - no additional money to the champion's conference. Note - under the ACC's settlement with Clemson and FSU, Miami will keep the bulk of the PO money. 'Eat what you kill,' postseason revenue distributions to teams, not conferences, will likely be the norm under the next round of media deals. The Big Ten is first up with a new media deal that will be negotiated in 2029 and implemented in 2030. Note: Beginning next season, PO payments will be determined by teams in the field and not by how far teams advance. Beginning in 2026-27, and based upon prior postseason participation, PO revenues per conference are estimated to be $23 million for the SEC, $21M for the B1G, $13.5M for the ACC, $12.5M for the B12, and $2M for the G6. This revised payout formula is another reason why Tony Petitti wants an expanded field with automatic qualifiers, and Greg Sankey wants teams determined by a committee. Under Sankey's plan, this season, Texas and Vanderbilt would have been in a 16-team field, giving the SEC seven teams total and the B1G three. The last two postseason game results indicate that the PO Committee is overratting SEC teams and underratting Big Ten teams. Come January 23rd, we'll see if the B1G and the SEC have reached an expanded PO format agreement or if the field will remain at 12 teams. Under new media deals, media revenue, as is the case in the ACC, will also likely be distributed based on 'Eyes on the Prize,' how many people are watching the broadcast of a team's games. Ohio State and Michigan want this so ... Danno, keep on baking that bread. 🤑
  9. This has really gotten me worked up, part of it is the greed by the player, another is the underhanded nature of the program contacting Williams knowing that he has signed a contract, the fact that there are no rules at all against this sort of behavior, this then relates to the stupidity that is involved with the schedule of the playoffs and the portal. It is just so emblematic of all the problems with college sports right now. I really hope that Oregon isn't the program that enticed Williams (I don't think we are). It would make me lose a lot of respect for Lanning. No rules, everyone out for themselves, no loyalty, lying to the fans about how you love them and loved their support, "I have to do what is best for myself," no, you are just selfish and don't care one lick about anyone else but yourself, that goes for coaches as well that do this sort of baloney. All of this has trickled down to youth sports where you have adults manipulating leagues so that you get all the best kids on the same team, club sports are awful, high schools where you have kids transferring 4 times in 4 years. All of this is such a bad example of how we should live our lives as a community. I always thought that European sports were missing out on how great high school and college sports could be, but maybe they have it right by having high level youth sports operated by professional clubs, though knowing quite a bit about European football they have their own set of problems with regards to youth and young players. Depressing.
  10. Neither do I. I want to see one of our homegrown QBs develop and take over after Dante Moore (hopefully) leaves next year. Just an interesting development in the news cycle!
  11. I've searched everywhere I can, but I can find no detailed information on the Big Ten crew for the Peach Bowl, including looking at the CFB PO site. I'm sure that the 'wise guys' betting the game have this information in hand. Frustrating! 🤬
  12. Great take, Gat. Thank you, Forum Friend. The calendar in the NFL makes sense, as do restrictions on transfers, salary, but no NIL caps, a draft, better teams the year prior playing tougher schedules next season, and every other rule and regulation that results in more parity. Players being paid are referred to as 'employees' and not whatever the NCAA wants to call them. The NFL billionaire owners get along. The players being paid are allowed to form a union and negotiate with management. There is one commissioner and not ten, plus someone representing The Irish. 😁 There are simple fixes to what ails CFB, but good luck getting all of The Powers that Be on the same page.
  13. It shouldn't be B1G refs the goal of non-conference affliated refs is to take the bias out of the the officiating. However, I would say in this scenario there is still potential bias because these are officiating crews who work in the conference and they probably have their preferences. The reality is that there should be centralized officiating and it should be organized all across the sport in that the NCAA (for lack of another entity) should manage the officiating and training and not the conferences. With that said.... I know every conference grades out their officiating crews to determine which are the best and worse. I'd imagine here that only a crew that had the highest scores get this job appointment for the playoff.
  14. Yes, Limar can stay with the team to play even if he enter the portal in the playoffs.
  15. Mike...that was a great article bringing up a crucial point that NONE of the other hundred media outlets have covered. Frankly--I had forgot about this, and I hope your article gets passed along to Coach Lanning.
  16. Isn't your point above THE major point with them? Oregon has added enormously to the conference, and should be treated at least equally compared to the old powers. But then, we DID win the most conference championships in our first year last year...didn't we? So how they will treat Oregon?
  17. Thank you, Mike, for another terrific article. This Grey Beard loved the Billy Martin reference. My mind (as much as capable) turned back to 1977 when Billy and Reggie Jackson almost went at it after Reggie dogged it on a ball hit to the outfield by the Red Sox's Jim Rice. Reggie's lack of hustle allowed Rice to turn a single into a double. Reggie was benched. Yankees owner George Steinbrenner was not pleased with the manner in which Martin treated Jackson in this game and throughout Jackson's time with the Yankees. In 1977, the Yankees won the World Series. In 1978, Martin quit over the owner's interference with how he treated Jackson, and on the way out the door, said of Jackson and Steinbrenner, "one's a born liar, and the other's convicted." Martin was rehired by Steinbrenner, but the Yankees did not win another World Series before Martin was permanently fired in-season in 1988. Sorry for the OT recollection. I wasn't all that happy to learn that Big Ten refs would be reffing the Peach Bowl game. I hope it's not the same crew that called no penalties on Iowa in a war at the LOS game in Iowa City. Is this an all-star crew, or has this crew previously worked an Oregon game(s)? OBD won the conference title last season and is earning millions of semi-final money for the conference in back-to-back seasons. (No additional money is paid to the two teams that advance to the championship game.) But Oregon is still a new kid on the B1G block and will be treated as the same for ??? years. I expect no favors from the refs. If Dan gets in a ref's grill ala Cignetti, we will see a 15-yard penalty and not sideline interference called. Thanks again for another winner! Put Out That Cig!
  18. Noah Whittington embraces home-state return as Oregon prepares for Indiana Noah Whittington returns to Mercedes-Benz Stadium and his home state focused on Oregon’s standard, family balance, and physicality ahead of the Peach Bowl rematch.
  19. "I agree with UW, .... you have to honor a contract or you have to pay compensation for breaking said contract." Often the terms for breaking a contract are in the contract. Wonder if they are in his case? Still think it would be problematic to force a kid to stay...not very motivational for the kid's playing performance? Even if there is some kind of breach of contract provision.

  24. Before the 2006-07 season concluded, this SEC narrative didn't exist. Ohio State, and Michigan were slotted for a rematch, and it took Urban Meyer campaigning to get Florida on a field that they were told they didn't belong. Remember, we were coming off the USC dynasty, and the U part 2. Auburn was undefeated in 2004, but got left out of the BCS National Championship. Auburn won their bowl game, but didn't receive the same favor USC got the year prior. USC was the undisputed champion, after pasting Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl. The SEC was looked at as pretty good, but not capable of consistently having a program that could compete with USC, Miami, Ohio State, or Oklahoma. All of that changed in January 2007, in Glendale Arizona. Florida was meant to be the final stepping stone to the crowning of Troy Smith, and Ohio State. Well, it started off well for them with the Ted Ginn kickoff return. But it quickly became apparent over the next 59:34 that there was a mismatch. The following year, LSU beat Ohio State in New Orleans. The year after that, Florida beat Oklahoma in Miami. Alabama beat Texas in Pasadena, Auburn beat Oregon in Glendale. Alabama beat LSU in New Orleans. Alabama beat Notre Dame in Miami. Then the streak stopped, as Florida State beat Auburn in Pasadena. Ohio State beat Alabama in New Orleans en route to winning the first ever playoff era national championship. There was talk of the Alabama dynasty dying that night in New Orleans. But then Alabama would go on, and beat Clemson to win another title. Clemson would get their revenge the next year. Alabama would beat Georgia the year after. Clemson would destroy Alabama the year after that, and we were apparently seeing the kryptonite to Alabama. Clemson was the new dynasty. LSU dispatched that the next year, and then disappeared. Alabama came back, and destroyed Ohio State. Before Georgia had their revenge by beating Alabama, and then a second piece of cake the next year, in that blowout vs TCU. The new era began, and Michigan won the next year. You could say Michigan officially ended the Alabama dynasty in the Rose Bowl that year. Ohio State ran through Tennessee, and beat Texas in essentially a road game en route to winning the first ever 12 team CFP title. Notre Dame dispatched Georgia, and that was it. Michigan, Ohio State, and Notre Dame had proven the gap was closed. Michigan bullied Alabama. Ohio State made Tennessee, and Texas look slow, and Notre Dame proved that Brian Kelly was a fool. This year, Indiana officially closed the book in a way that made Finebaum sick. It isn't just Ohio State, or Michigan. Indiana just did to Alabama, what Alabama used to do to Michigan State, or Washington. Totally outclassed, physically, and coaching wise. Indiana, Oregon, and Ohio State would've cruised through the SEC. Look at the line play, look at the teams still alive. Ole Miss is the last hope, but they haven't faced a line like they are going to see on Thursday. Five years ago, that statement would've seen as insane. An SEC team hasn't seen the physicality in the postseason like the one they'll see vs Indiana, or an ACC team? Yeah, that's the proof. I wouldn't say the NIL era has killed the SEC, it's just proven that those programs were playing with an extra ace, it's why they are crying about going to nine conference games. Kirby Smart crying about depth after the SEC Title Game is the result of NIL. He can't go three deep anymore, and it's affected him. Everything settled in time. Twenty years ago, the SEC was seen as good, not great. I think that statement is still true. There will be your usual suspects winning titles, but they aren't going to be doing it year after year. That era is gone, there won't be anymore all SEC National Title games. We had three, and that was enough. Nobody wants to see Alabama vs Georgia for a national title. There's parity my friends, and that's a good thing. Oregon, Ole Miss, or Indiana is going to be playing for the first ever national title. If it's Indiana, or Ole Miss, it will be the first time in their history that they will even be playing for one. This is great for the sport. The only thing that needs to be fixed is this transfer portal nonsense. If a guy signs a contract, head coach, or player. Hold them to it, it's absolutely ridiculous that you have players leaving while their team is playing for a championship. It's even more ridiculous how the whole Lane Kiffin saga played out. In the NFL, you can't enter free agency, and you can't take another job while your team is still playing.

  26. Word in the Twitterverse is LSU made a play for him and he sent out his portal announcement when the rest of his teammates were at a memorial for fellow student-athlete, Mia Hammant who succumbed to cancer. This all checks out since he seems to be getting advice from Lane Kiffin on proper timing 🙄.
