ESPN FPI increases Oregon Ducks' win probability vs. Penn State Ducks not worried about Penn St's extra prep. 4. Dan Lanning could land No. 1 DL Jalen Brewster in stunning 2027 class recruiting move The Oregon Ducks are already working ahead on the 2027 recruiting cycle, and head coach Dan Lanning may be closing in on a major piece. Five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster, one of the most coveted prospects in the class, has locked in Oct. 4 as his commitment date. According to the On3, Brewster holds the No. 8 overall spot nationally, is rated as the top defensive lineman, and sits at No. 3 among players from Texas. His final list of schools includes Oregon, Ohio State, Texas Tech, Indiana, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and LSU. Can Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks beat out Big Ten powers to land the No. 1 defensive lineman?

  6. Great take David. Another thought provoking article. We are now a third of the way through the season and even with a BIG game under the belt, it's felt more like a series of fun but low intensity Spring Games. It seems to me that the coaching staff has been more managing the games and just getting through them than attempting to dominate them and make statements. A couple passes to Moore here a few more to Sadiq there, hand off to running back A, then B, then C and on down the line, get a four score lead and call it a day. It feels like we've just been taking the Ferrari out to run a few errands and I think that has been by design. I think Lanning has been load managing his team right up to this game. I would expect the offensive game plan to look much different come Saturday with our marquee playmakers becoming much more of the focus. Dierre Hill has just gotten a couple touches a game and is averaging around ten yards a carry. I'm expecting to see much more play calling attention going towards these playmakers Saturday and I'm also looking forward to the creativity Coach Stein will bring to the play calling. Saturday should be a great game. I'm way over hyped for it. Can't wait!
  7. The Ducks are 4-0 but far from perfect, and the warm-up games are over. Penn State is coming up Saturday. The Nittany Lions are going to be the first real test for the Ducks this season, and the Ducks the first competitive team Penn State will face. For the Ducks’ Offense to find success against a top B1G team, they ... To Become an Elite Offense the Ducks Must Learn Patience
  8. I much prefer coaches to give the backups reps in one-sided games as opposed to running up scores for whatever reason. Game reps are super important for player development and a coach never knows when those backups may have to be thrust into action to (hopefully) keep a team headed toward its seasonal goals.
  9. I think that’s totally right. Lanning wants to win the game and doesn’t really care about the score. He is wholly unconcerned about the spread - outside noise. He doesn’t care about padding stats either. Jayden Daniels is clearly awesome, but Bo could have had many more TDs / yards if that was a priority for us. Dante only played for a half and a bit for the first three weeks. He wants to see the perfect game. For him that seems to be defined by depth, perfect execution beyond the 1’s. He knows that snaps at game speed and intensity are so valuable for the non starters. And he knows the season is a marathon. Not worth over rotating on any game after the outcome is determined. Prepare-Execute-Celebrate-Correct… and then on to the next. Maybe the thumbs up/thumbs down game at Michigan was the only time where we punched in another TD late in the game when we already had the outcome guaranteed. I was surprised at that. I also loved it! 😊
  10. I may be proven wrong at some point , but Bray is not the guy. They were so unprepared for that fake punt that you could see coming so clearly. Also what am I missing with regard to Malik Murphy? They paid $1.5m in NIL money for him and i'm not sure that was a good investment. Also unless i missed it somewhere else, he (Bray) never really could bring himself to say Oregon was good. Last three opposing coaches acknowledged that the Ducks are good.
  11. First off Lanning doesn't care at all about the spread. He's concerned about winning and ensuring the health of his team for the long run of the season. We have depth and can take some hits, already have taken some hits but can't take needless hits. Second off... the line for Oregon to beat Oregon State at 34 points was absurd from a betting standpoint. The Ducks got pretty close but a spread like that usually requires running up the score and with Lanning as the head coach that is a tall order to ensure they get those points. The Ducks did it against Ok State because they couldn't stop anything. Personally I'm just happy to see the Ducks break the 40 point mark this season.
  12. The darkest part of the web I ever go is to "Charlotte's Web". The love that spider had for that pig brings a year to my eye, even as an adult. As far as Philadelphia Founding Father Ben-James Franklin, I stay out of those big game discussions. I'd just like a coach that could get to ten wins first.
  13. Ok... It's probably just the British side of me but every time I see "Mummy Duck" I'm thinking of a mother duck. Not a mummified Duck thing. But a full glow in the dark white uniform for the Penn State whiteout could be absolutely insane. But... If we do that we better win.
  14. Obviously we posted a very similarly lopsided score and beat down on week 2 vs OK St. But even in those clearly game-controlled contests against MSU and NU and even against the Beavos, we are generally at the spread and don’t wreck folks by 50+. If you look at the Indiana game, and the lines of similarly dominant teams in FBS this isn’t uncommon. While OBD have been dominant thus far, we haven’t “broken their spirits”. Well maybe we did that to Gundy and Co lol. Why is that? Is it Lanning, who wants us to dominate but also seems to exude a culture of respect and doesn’t need to feel the ego need to go for 2 late in the fourth quarter? Is it that logic prevails, an we want to provide our 2nd/3rd team with valuable reps, and we want to preserve our 1’s from garbage time? Or are we actually trying to break those teams but they were better than that (we couldn’t beat them by 70). It feels like there may be coaches that are okay wrecking other teams. Cignetti didn’t do it to Old Dominion, but Indiana was mercilous in weeks 2,3 and 4. I’m personally okay with it but it has me super curious. We are only 2-2 against the spread and we were similar last year. I don’t think Lanning cares!
  15. DISinformation, I think you had a typo.
  16. Against Oregon State he did a fantastic job in one play (that I remember) that he came down into the line of scrimmage when the run bounced outside. He beat his blocker and maintained the edge and turned the runner back right into a lineman. No credit on the stat sheet but he was absolutely a major reason that that particular play went for effectively 0 yards. I haven't sat down to review all the film but I'm sure he is everywhere.
  17. Nittany Lions Wire, the USA Today Wired-In site for PSU. I think you have to go to the Dark Web for The Little Game James Wire? 🤬
  18. They said the same thing the last time Oregon played Ohio State in the Shoe (and we had one arm tied behind our backs with Mario on the sideline). Both very talented teams with a great home field advantage. Ducks will have to show up and execute at a very high level.
  19. With two ranked opponents coming up in the next three weeks, I think this is exactly where Dan wanted the team to be. 4-0, things to fix, with the Ducks still flying somewhat off the radar. This Saturday, all of the pressure will be on James Franklin and Penn State. Following the model of 2023-24 champ Michigan, and 2024-25 Ohio State, PSU has many of its top players back, and added good players out of the portal, and like the champion Wolverines and the Buckeyes, played against thin air out of conference. PSU fans are in Natty or bust mode. Jim Knowles is a great D coordinator, no doubt. However, OBD is 1-1 versus Knowles, and Caleb Williams is not on PSU's roster. OBD's wins will not rock the boat, but two wins came against P4 opponents, including a win on the road vs. Northwestern. And going on the road and winning against a B1G opponent is a plus for OBD. In chomping down three cupcakes, PSU's D has looked the part, and the run game has performed, but Allar is still Drew Allar. Like the question surrounding Clemson's Cade Klubnik, is Drew ready to win a B1G game against a roster his own size? Is James ready to win a big B1G game? I trust Dan to have OBD prepared to play its best game of the season. No faux-furor needed to have the team ready to play this game. I think the game will be as close as the 2024 champ game, but I think OBD exits with the win. Neuter the Nits!

  22. "The Ducks have been doing that and it might be just what they need. Adding a body but not committing a body." Seems like a work in progress? I see Theineman with 16 total tackles so far in 4 games. Mostly it seems like his tackles have been more in his traditional role rather than crashing the box (but I could be wrong, and I do think he has been very good). Singleton, Allen, and Allar had 29 carries for 283 yards and 2 TDs at 9.8 yards per carry. The Duck offense won the day; but, it put up 45 and I don't think PSU has ever given up 45 at home (so a repeat offensive performance would indeed be historical). I was thinking about another big body in the box and maybe sometimes a safety crashing. If the defense slows the run and makes Allar to complete 25+ passes and make maybe 8-10 tough throws (without Warren to throw to), and your offense isn't able to save the day, maybe you feel ok tipping your hat and thinking about a rematch?
  23. Not much to do there. State College is pretty small and VERY hard to get in/out of. If you’re driving from any distance, allow yourself plenty of time.
  24. This talk reminds me of last year after wins in our 1st three games. And we ended up 12 - 0. The real season is about to start. Lots of great games remain. It's too early to be in top form. We improve every week. And it's a looonng season. I think we are doing what's needed to win. 1st real test is this week. Can't wait for the game. All of you going to the game, please yell LOUD!
  25. The 1st-ranked team that Indiana has defeated under coach Cig. 481 yards in the Hoosiers' favor vs. a top 10 team is a CFB record. Indiana's 63-10 beatdown of a top 10 team is a CFB record. Are you not entertained? 🤪
  26. I think moving a safety down closer to the LOS might help keeping the explosive runs at bay. The Ducks have been doing that and it might be just what they need. Adding a body but not committing a body.
