  2. Cornerback is one of the most difficult positions to play on defense. A CB’s reaction times and quickness are negated if a decent QB has the time to throw the ball. The most effective secondaries get a huge assist from the pass rush, or blitzing scheme. With 39 sacks Oregon was ranked #6. Oregon’s passing defense allowed 187 yards/game, and total defense allowed 19.4 points/game. Our red zone defense was below average allowing teams to score 85% of the time. To compare, tOSU pass defense allowed 167/game, and total defense 12.9 points/game. Their red zone defense allowed scores 60% of the time, and was near the top in the nation. Our secondary is just part of the entire story.
  3. Great article! Hoping to see this defense take on DL's personality, and start to resemble those defenses he coached at Georgia.
  4. One of my favorite collaborations: Bussin' With the Boys and Josh Pate. If you recall from the win against tosu at Autzen, Dan Lanning immediately went berserk and body slammed into two guys . . . it was the guys from Bussin' With the Boys. My favorite part was Josh Pate saying that he went to Oregon's practice recently, and he said: "I got no doubt about Dante Moore". (see 52 minute mark) I try not to get my hopes up too much, but I'm hearing this from other national sports folks once they observe an Oregon practice.
  5. There aren't many of them... But there is ONE that we cannot ignore, Ohio State. Many will argue that Ohio State has a pretty balanced attack which is pretty true as well but they have elite receivers and usually quarterback talent that can destroy secondaries. Then the playoff itself will have plenty of elite receivers that we'll have to defend to reach the natty.

  7. Spot on, great read! I’d equate having a good passing attack to having a good 3-point shooting team in college hoops. Any team with a draft-able QB, a couple good WRs and an air first scheme has a shot to win a shootout on a given day, especially at home. The great equalizer for talent which our buddy Mike Leach (RIP) made a career out of. Relying on this probably won’t get you to 10 wins very often, but it can make a team consistently bowl eligible that otherwise wouldn’t be. That being said, there aren’t a lot of air it out “buzz saws” in our new league, so it may take a while to find out if we have the same weakness this year.
  8. Agreed . . . also think it would be great in the weight room.
  9. The moniker "student athlete" is now truly a misnomer.
  10. Isaiah World turned down 2 Mil? But what did he get? Oregon Ducks' Top Transfer Turned Down Lucrative NIL Deal At Other School?
  11. Former Duck Jackson Powers-Johnson moves to Guard and wins the starting position for the Raiders! Autzen ZooDuck fan favorite and Rimington Award winner proves again...When Jackson Powers-Johnson was a freshman offensive guard at Oregon in 2021, the Ducks ran short of defensive linemen for the Alamo Bowl against Oklahoma.
  12. Stunning admission by Dante Moore! Autzen ZooDante Moore makes a stunning admission about Oregon quart...In the last week of Fall Camp the media asked Dante Moore to compare himself to Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel.

  14. Oregon Ducks Tied With SEC Recruiting Powerhouse For Most 5-Star CommitsThe Oregon Ducks and Alabama Crimson Tide are tied for the most five-star commits in the recruiting class of 2026. Oregon's class features five-star recruits like offensive tackle Immanuel Iheanacho, safety Jett Washington, EDGE Anthony Jones, and tight end Kendre Harrison. 15. Three Keys to Win: Oregon vs Montana StateThe Montana State Bobcats will make the 860 mile trek southwest from Bozeman to Eugene for Saturday's opener. They are one of the best teams in the FCS, but have some big question marks for Oregon to exploit. Autzen ZooThree Keys to Win: Oregon vs Montana StateOregon stumbled their way to a win in last year's opener against Idaho.
  16. It feels strange to say that perhaps former Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning’s biggest weakness is his team’s defense. I mean the Oregon secondary in particular, but looking back at his first three years as head coach, that weakness is what stands out — but perhaps 2025 will be the season this ceases to be the case. Even our Mr. ... Will the Duck Defensive Secondary be a Liability Again This Year
  17. Actually, the consensus of local and national analysts is that Georgia's wide receiver room is, hands down, the most improved position group on the team. I think this will be quite apparent from the jump this year. It is also expected that the running game will be greatly improved as well. People are optimistic about the 25 offense. One virtue of the 9-game SEC schedule is that Texas may finally have to play a worthy SEC slate of games. Last year's schedule was soft and they play the same teams this year, although they have finally drawn some challenging road games. I don't understand the Texas favoritism over Georgia and Alabama (not to mention TA&M,) teams than will be better than they were last year I think. A lot of that variance in favoritism revolves around hype about the virtues of QB Arch Manning. My guess is that Arch will be good, but he has proved nothing yet.
  18. Sadly, It is not just former PAC 12 schools. The financial model for D1 college sports relies heavily on media revenue, and the lack of revenue will force many Universities Athletic departments into difficult decisions. Opportunities for athletes to compete in football, and other sports will be impacted, and opportunities for our youth to compete decreasing. Unfortunately, escalating costs and diminishing revenues have harsh consequences. The landscape is changing, and the lack of money to compete is the reality.
  19. Having two former Ducks ripping it up for a Florida team can't hurt southern recruiting.
  20. SMU bought its way into the ACC by taking no revenue for, I believe, 5 seasons. Cal and Stanford joined the ACC at a deep revenue discount. None of the three would have been accepted without the revenue discount and the approval of broadcast partner ESPN. The money the Pac-2 could have paid the B12 wasn't the issue; it was ESPN and Fox having no interest in the schools. ESPN did not want the Pac-2 in the ACC. As noted above, the smart move was a reverse merger with the Mountain West, but the Pac-2 thought it could make more money with a new Pac-Whatever. New 2026 Pac member Fresno State was blown out by Kansas on Saturday. Stanford's loss to Hawaii was Hawaii's first win against a P4/5 team since 2019.
  21. Why didn’t they try and give that $300M to the BIG-12 as a buy in. If that didn’t work, could they have offered to split it equally with the MW to merge under the PAC-12 name to create the top G5 league? Now they have no future. The money is a very short term fix, but when that runs out, they have nothing.
  22. They could not steal 300 million from the departing ten other Pac-12 members if they left and reverse-merged with the Mountain West. They had to retain the name for the theft... They have settled into where they belong...
  23. Stanford was a power from 2008-2016 Harbaugh and Shaw were darn good making them relevant. They could have said they'd take a media cut and earn their way to full membership. But that would require an honest evaluation of their own programs which didn't happen. If they were honest with themselves about their worth they would have joined the Mountain West by now instead of trying to rebuild a conference. They have some creative options if they were honest with themselves but they have insisted on making all the worst decisions. Stay independent and use that pac-12 cash to invest into football. Get some high potential coaches and show they are serious in football. That would help get the NIL collectives rolling and then do everything in their power to make good bowl games or the playoff (though unlikely). Instead the Beaver's hired Bray, Smith's DC, and didn't have any real depth in the roster and the whole thing fell apart. Could they have gotten anyone better? Maybe but that promotion seemed to happen so fast they didn't seem to care to try. Would any serious coach actually want to take the OSU job? Not with the way they were running the program and it's lack of support and no conference. But maybe.... Maybe they could have held onto Smith with a realistic major bonus and a well laidout plan for the future. Because the program Smith built at OSU would dominate the MW conference and would have been in the conversation of being one of those G5 teams that could potentially get a playoff spot. They probably wouldn't have gotten it still... But the narrative around the program is COMPLETELY different at that point. So maybe they can make a crazy deal with the Big 12 or ACC. But instead they went the route of keeping all the Pac-12 money and stabbing the MW in the back. Now in the New Pac-12 they aren't going to be the dominant team. That goes to Boise State. OSU might not even be the second or third best team either. They will be in the middle of a crap conference of their own making. That's lack of vision and a failure. That's on OSU's administration. My comments that they should have tried to get into the Big 12 isn't to say the Big 12 would take them as they were.... They weren't that desirable. The Bug 12 would be adding two mediocre teams to their already mediocre conference that's a non-starter, there's no value there. But it's my observation that OSU (and WSU) didn't even seem to try. They stayed their mediocre course and said "this is fine" and they get the bed they made. They had a strange opportunity to take a large chunk of money that had fallen in their laps (rightly or unrightly) and have made all the worst decisions as to what to do with it.
  24. Nice to see that he's still a matchup nightmare at the next level.
  25. I realize it's a new era, but it's hard for me to think paying kids to play football in college is OK. I'm not wanting to get into it, I've read all the reasoning, I get it, this is what it is. The real issue for me is jealousy. I went to college. I worked 45 years, 50-60+ hrs/wk. Split days off. Not once did I come close to making 6 figures in 1 year! I would have played for free at Oregon, course I wasn't near good enough. Oh well. Is it Saturday yet?

  27. They were not wanted, as everyone in the Big-12 would take a media split cut by adding them. They were massively overpaid by the Pac-12 for decades...
  28. Was great to see. Nice flip too! Several Ducks had great showings this past weekend. Hope they all survive the cut to 53.
