Oregon Football: Grading the Dylan Raiola Transfer
I'm going to 'Wait a Minute' before grading Raiola's signing. I'm going to wait until I understand the plan. Will Dylan be an understudy for a season? If so, or if he starts in 2026, I'm going to wait until I see him playing in the Oregon system surrounded by better players and with better coaching. Dan Lanning and friends identified Raiola early on as the guy they wanted. The deal to bring Dylan to Eugene was probably (wink, wink) agreed to before or shortly after Dylan entered the portal. Otherwise, I think Dylan would have taken a few visits, no? No fault directed at either party; this is how portal picking works. Three of the Final 4 QBs are one year (subject to Chambliss' suit against the NCAA) starters. Dante is a transfer who basically went to school last season and learned on the job this season. Until there is a collective bargaining agreement between 'management', as however defined, and a players' union, it makes sense to go with an experienced QB, even if he has only one year of remaining eligibility. This is simply the name of today's game at every position. Talented young players not assured of starting at any position will be poached, as is the case with OBD's youngsters on the D-side of the ball. Dante's maturity in spending a year in training, and possibly the same decision by Raiola, is the exception and not the rule. However, Dante in 2024 and Raiola this season, should he sit and wait, are not doing so for free. Oregon hit on every transfer it brought in for the 2025 season. Looking at programs, Florida State and Penn State, for example, OBD once again received an excellent return on its portal investment. Clemson and Penn State started QBs developed within the system and played one another in the Pinstripe Bowl. Danno 'gets it.' And I trust his judgement.

Why Did We Not Represent the Ducks in Atlanta?
I think it probably would have been better just to hold the game at Indiana and probably more Oregon fans would have shown up.

Are You Catching Up With the NEW Roster Management?
Fundamentals for me to mentally deal with portal world 2026: 25% roster churn is normal Don’t get attached to any HS recruit not good enough to start from day 1 I don’t even learn most HS kids names until fall training camp Our players that leave typically leave because they will never start, and by never, I mean next season My memory of Bo Nix being announced was fans mostly being perplexed and skeptical - I trust this staff with recruiting

WHAT? "Pac-12 Should Actively Seduce Washington, Cal and UCLA"
Here’s a nice quote today from a Beavis site that illustrates how confused they are with reality:

WHAT? "Pac-12 Should Actively Seduce Washington, Cal and UCLA"
The ACC hasn't fallen apart yet, but the Clemson and FSU settlements set the stage for it to happen. The ACC exit fee declines every season through 2029 to a far more reasonable number. Miami is the team initially benefiting from the ACC agreeing to teams keeping the lion's share of postseason revenue and media money will be distributed based on the number of fans watching a team's games. With the B1G's on-field results in football, and also this season in basketball to date, Miami, with its deep-pocket boosters, is now a more viable candidate for SEC membership than before 'It Just Means More' started morphing into 'It Just Meant More.' And the SEC could bring in UNC without upsetting an existing in-state program. UNC has deep pockets. Unfortunately, the football money was thrown at a guy who only performed at the highest level when he had TB. (Cough, cough!) Unless CAL, UCLA, and UW leadership go completely bottom-line brain-dead, there's no way they are leaving the P4 for a little league program. Also, even if these three joined the Pac-8 + Gonzo, what would the incentive be for the P4 to promote the Pac-11 + Gonzo to Power conference status? Canzano is not a bottom-line, brain-dead individual, so he feeds his customers this propaganda. Like Conference USA, the reconstituted Mountain West, now known as the Pac-12, is a media and nationwide afterthought. I like the idea of OBD kicking off next season with a blowout of pac-12 Boise State.

I was wondering the exact same thing. Perhaps too many visits to one of the plethora of available Oregon 'dispensaries.' John may need to be reminded to not hit the stuff and then write after 8 p.m.

Oregon Football: Grading the Dylan Raiola Transfer
I sure hope Dante comes back for another year. 20 starts! He is still learning how to read defenses at the college level; let alone adjusting to pro caliber speeds. As for Raiola, I believe he knows there is a chance he sits for a season and is okay with it. Dan needs find an excellent QB coach to help not only with Dante's progress, but the rest of the QB room. I'd very much like to see Akili Smith Jr. start to emerge from the pack. A high level QB coach could really bring the best out of him!

Are You Catching Up With the NEW Roster Management?
Which Oregon Duck players will be going to the NFL in 2026? Players are making decisions about what to do with their futures. For many, this means deciding between an early declaration for the 2026 NFL draft or a return to school for one more year. The Ducks have a number of players trying to make that decision this year, with several guys possessing Day 1 or Day 2 draft grades, should they choose to jump to the pros. So far, we've already seen a couple of guys announce their intentions to return for another year, while more are bound to make their decisions in the near future. So far, no players with remaining eligibility for the 2026 season have announced that they will forego their final year with the Ducks in order to enter the 2026 NFL draft. Here's a look at what we know so far, and who we are still waiting to hear from over the next few weeks. https://duckswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/ducks/football/2025/12/24/oregon-football-nfl-declaration-tracker-2026/87903938007/

Are You Catching Up With the NEW Roster Management?
I think, as always, it can be for the "haves". It is the ever-evolving world of college football . . . adapt or become a beaver. Slowly the "haves" are increasing. Texas Tech and Indy have now joined the club. Who's next? The more in the club, the more chaos and that in itself is entertaining both on and off the field. Of course, personally I love a good train wreck.

Oregon Football: Grading the Dylan Raiola Transfer
We just have to wait until Moore announces and Raiola responds to see where this is truly headed.

Why Did We Not Represent the Ducks in Atlanta?
Also, Indiana has 805,000 alums, Oregon about 205,000.
-
WHAT? "Pac-12 Should Actively Seduce Washington, Cal and UCLA"
Isn't it foundationally inaccurate to put Oregon State and the word 'intellectuals' in the same sentence?

Oregon Football: Grading the Dylan Raiola Transfer
Our Oregon football program didn’t waste any time bouncing back from a crushing College Football Playoff loss to Indiana on Friday. They’ve jumped into transfer portal action to replace key positions, as a significant portion of the roster’s depth has been depleted on offense, defense, and special teams. Monday’s haul was highlighted by landing one of the top-ranked quarterback transfers: ... Oregon Football: Grading the Dylan Raiola Transfer

Is it True About Departing Portal Transfers...?
There are a few categories of transfers, so it seems. The star players on lesser teams who want a bigger stage. You don't know how they will do vs better competition. The highly rated HS players on top teams who are not playing. You don't know how they will do against any competition. The ones on good teams in good leagues who are playing and just want a change for whatever reason. These guys you can look at film and see how well they will do. Some get pushed out the door and some just think the grass is greener somewhere else. Some have been working hard on their bodies and developing. Some have already peaked in high school. Some get injured and are never the same again. Some just don't have very good skills. And some turn into really good players. If you are a coach and you want to keep a guy, you better play him.

Transfer Portal Hails and Farewells
I would not be worried about the D line transfers IF they had some good players coming in... But all those guys are already taken by other teams. Looks like Ducks are messing up in that department. Maybe they are having 'conversations' and some players will enter the portal and sign with Oregon? They are way to thin at DT and noseguard right now. On the other hand, none of the ones leaving have really 'popped' so far. Maybe Lanning is looking for a different kind of body type? This is one area to keep an eye on it. Of course in this modern day, signing doesn't mean a whole lot. It is when a player has blown all the NIL cash on jewelry and cars is when he is really committed, so it seems. When Lanning was getting ready for Indiana, his coordinators were probably not paying much attention to the upcoming game and certainly NOT recruiting for Oregon. While that was going on, the top portal names were getting snatched up by all the other teams. Fixing the holes in the roster this late in the game is where Lanning is going to earn his paycheck. It won't be easy. And getting blown out is not a good look for the quality transfers out there.

Oregon Coordinators: Replace?
Regarding the success of OBD this season, I kind of forgot that we started this season with a lot of new starters, and there was a lot of hand wringing over how many wins we could get. It was a FANTASTIC result this year in spite of the heart breaking end. How many teams finished better than OBD?

WHAT? "Pac-12 Should Actively Seduce Washington, Cal and UCLA"
The Big Twelve is called the truck stop conference by all those intellectuals in Stanford, Cal, Washington State, or Oregon State. But one genius has to ask, with conference payouts being equal between the ACC & Big Twelve, isn't the travel cost half as much from the Pacific to the plains, as opposed to the Pacific to the Atlantic? Isn't 35 million more than 7 million? Isn't a guaranteed playoff spot better than having to be better than about six other conferences? UCLA would have to Defund most of their Olympic programs without the B1G membership. These academic elites sure lack common sense sometimes.

Transfer Portal Hails and Farewells
Biggest transfer portal losses in the Lanning era! Many are not all that surprising, namely Novosad and Moga, but this is a LOT of backups lost. Vander Ploog is not that surprising as Oregon got Olesh (sp?) from Penn State. Remember last year Olesh was Oregon's 2nd choice for Tight End and wiffed there and ended on Ploog. Cooper Perry is a little surprising that he is leaving as he got some snaps as a freshman and could build off that but a new receiver class is coming in and I could see the motivation to leave. This is cleaning house for sure... whether by player choice of Lanning's. LOTS of players going away and this will be an interesting reload.
