  5. I think it was a given this was going to happen at some point. But I think they needed to wait a (minimum?) of 10 years before they could do it. I want to say LaMachael James was about 10 years removed from his time at Oregon before he was inDUCKted into the Oregon all of fame as well. Regardless, this is a big honor and well deserved for Mariota. I still love going back and watching those games, he ran that offense so beautifully.

  7. College football's top RB rooms: Penn State, Notre Dame battle for top spot behind loaded backfields Several national title contenders boast impressive stables of running backs heading into 2025 3. Oregon A couple of weeks ago, on the Cover 3 Podcast, we were trying to figure out who the Group of Five Star would be now that Ashton Jeanty was gone. The first name that came to my mind was Tulane running back Makhi Hughes, only to remember Hughes had transferred to Oregon. Such is life as a G5 program these days, but their loss is Oregon's gain! Hughes rushed for 1,401 yards and 15 touchdowns last year and looked impossible to tackle at times. He'll now be the head Duck at the RB spot, but he'll be spelled by Noah Whittington (540 and 6) and Da'Jaun Riggs. 9. Gimme Five! OBD is one of the five teams CBS Sports believes will win the Natty. One of these five teams will win the 2025-26 CFP National Championship WWW.YARDBARKER.COM It's not that hard to predict the national title contenders for college football this season, and one of these five teams will wind up hoisting the trophy. Penn State has the most experience coming back, and on paper, portal-plugged its WR problem. Two coaches have won it all: Kirby Smart and Ryan Day. Will one of Danno, Sark, and Franklin step up in 2025-26?
  10. Hats Off to Marcus! Oregon Makes Major Marcus Mariota Announcement on Monday WWW.YARDBARKER.COM There's no doubt that throughout their history, the Oregon Ducks have produced a number of legendary college football players, but maybe none as recognizable as quarterback Marcus Mariota.

  13. Legendary football coach Nick Saban doesn’t want Oregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning to be the “next Nick Saban.” Lanning and Saban's relationship goes back more than a decade and the two regularly keep in contact. In an exclusive interview, Lanning reveals what advice Saban has given him. Saban’s advice? “Be you and then figure out what your non-negotiables are and then be ready to adapt,” Lanning said. “And he was always great at adapting to how the game might change, great at adapting to your ability to recruit what that might look like, great at adapting to how you coach your players. I think he just always did a phenomenal job of that.” Dan Lanning Reveals Best Nick Saban Advice For Oregon Ducks Success: EXCLUSIVE WWW.SI.COM Legendary football coach Nick Saban doesn’t want Oregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning to be the “next Nick Saban.” Saban wants Lanning to be authentic and pave his ow

  16. I like your take. QB 's are judge jury and executioner of WR talent. They think a WR isn't open, won't catch it or won't run after the catch to get the yards needed, they throw to someone else. If a WR is not getting balls thrown to them they aren't productive and get replaced. And vice versa, someone is super productive because the ball is coming their way will get more playing time. We don't have enough data to say that Evan Stewart was going to be our starting QB 's favorite target, heck we don't even have a starting QB picked yet. I think the biggest loss with Evan being out is the threat of the home run that would keep safeties from crowding down on underneath routes.
  17. I had buddies in college, later in the Navy, when we went to games it was so they could drink beer, couldn't care less how the game was going. There weren't any bookies involved, just $$$ between friends, but that was the only way they'd actually watch a game. Perlman touches on it, and I've seen enough stories; fantasy football can get ugly. A players life can be threatened if he doesn't have a great game and his fantasy "owner" takes a hit. Or , forget fixing, just a loss can send a gambler to crazyland. To me, watching the game is where the fun is.
  18. Fantasy football is an interesting one... because I agree without it the NFL would definitely take a hit. However, fantasy football has some other things going for it other than a strictly betting perspective. There is often a social component where leagues are built around friends and there may or may not be any money on the line at all. Some people do bet on it aggressively but that isn't always the case. It can be a game within the game. For many the joy comes from just playing the fantasy football game as it combines with their love of football by default. I would get into fantasy football if I cared about the NFL but I rarely watch any NFL games. Fantasy football isn't unlike people filling out march madness brackets. Sure, there could be money on the line but often time it is for fun and I guess bragging rights. Betting can be a thing without money, people do it all the time, but to me sports betting IS about money and sports betting culture IS about money. Though I will say there is an element of sports betting that has always been a part of sports culture (or mostly about sports culture) and that is the pre-game lines. We all love looking at who is favored and by how much. What we do with that information varies wildly from person to person.
  19. My maternal Puritan ancestors, who arrived in Boston in 1628, bringing Scots prisoners to toil in the iron works north of Boston, would have loved Jeff Pearlman. Gambling was the work of the Devil. Stillworthy Faxon was a 'Roundhead' who fought for Oliver Cromwell in the British Civil Wars. His wife's name was Penelope. They departed Bristol with five children. Two died on the voyage to Boston. The Puritans were not very good at guarding the Scots prisoners, who were to be released after seven years in captivity. Many Scots, before their Indenture was served, wandered northeast and formed New Scotland, Nova Scotia. Ironic that the winners of the Civil Wars, the Puritans, wound up in the ice and cold and rocky ground of Boston and New England, while the losing Cavaliers ended up in Virginia. Descendants of the Cavaliers and the Puritans would battle in another civil war, this time in America. Class over, feel free to wake up.
  20. It’s one of them. If it wasn’t for fantasy football the nfl would take a big hit. Hard to go into a bar on without something going on with nfl betting. The lottery frowns it it because it cuts into their take.
  21. I received my notification from the University of Oregon for away game tickets. I'm guessing the Penn State game will sell out quick.

  22. I don't like betting... especially when I don't have any say in the outcome. But I am an obsessive Ducks fan. This is the case where big moneyed interests are pushing a narrative that makes them more money. You can't really blame a lot of sports casting and content creators that take their money for advertising as that keeps their businesses and passion projects alive. But we can absolutely push back on the notion that gambling is a must to be a sports fan. Being a sports fan is fun onto itself. People were still sports fans before sports betting became largely legal throughout the country.
  23. "Encouraged" by USC boosters, AD Jen Cohen took recruiting (dis)organization away from Lincoln Riley and turned it over to This Guy, who has made a significant difference in Trojan recruiting. Chad Bowden speaks on building a program that truly prioritizes players' needs at USC REIGNOFTROY.COM For some, USC's coach Lincoln Riley will never be in good graces until the Trojans are at least in the College Football Playoff picture. Wins, and compiling a l Pete Carroll, John McKay, and John Robinson were quality coaches helped by having more talent on the roster than the Other Guys. This is how SC will awaken, cogent recruiting supported by finally well-managed NIL collectives. SC may have to dump $10 M play-caller Riley to get there, but I think SC will be back as a national player in the next two to three seasons. 1-5 in one-score games in 2024, but two wins over favored SEC teams show that the talent is there. I hate to say it, but in addition to SC, I expect UW will step up to be one of the better B1G programs.
  24. No, but why do you a$k? People have been wagering on sports for thousands and thousands of years. For centuries, gaming was allowed in most of the world except the USA. Wagering is a game within a game, and in perspective, within your budget, is fun. However, it is not, of course, necessary to wager on sports to enjoy the game. Yes, the odds are there in part to 'balance the book,' but over the years, preseason football future bets odds have been more reliable than the myriad polls and projections from folks who have nothing at risk. Ducks -32 vs. Bob's Cats. For entertainment purposes only! Fun to ponder, I think? What are the odds again?
  25. I never bet actual money on a game, and really the only time I "bet" was on a now-gone sports message board where we were "given" $5,000 to bet and winner, of course, was the one who had the most money at the end of the season (college football in this case). I was the top winner two years in a row (even though I had to concentrate on how to word the bet so that it was what I was trying to bet), mostly because 1) I didn't bet much money and 2) luck. An example of luck was to bet on UConn beating the 44-point spread in a game against Alabama, and UConn losing by only 43 points.
