  1. Those are great questions to ask. It probably explains why there's less hesitation to reach out to coaches with less than stellar histories with NCAA violations. I hope this doesn't turn into a "Jail Blazers" era of Oregon football...
  2. Guess that means Joe Salavea isn't being retained..
  3. Man I hope Lanning pulls Moss in, he'd be a great replacement for KT.
  4. Coach McClendon doesn't expect any more opt-outs at this point for Oregon. That being said, WR and CB are really thin going into the game. If anything, it gives the freshman WRs a chance to show out on a big stage.
  5. VT just went through a coaching change, which probably explains why BB is getting out.
  6. I always felt bad for Burmeister when he was here in Oregon. He was clearly not ready to be a starter but was forced into it due to QBs transferring out and Herbert getting injured...he was literally thrown to the wolves. He seems to have faired a bit better at VT the last couple years which I'm happy for him.
  7. I was about to point that out as well. That's a ton of coaching turnover that would disrupt the development of any QB. Had Dillingham stayed with Auburn, he might have turned into one of the best QBs in the SEC.
  8. Jeez, you step away from the computer for a couple hours and come back to shocking news. I can't say I'm enthusiastic about yet another transfer QB coming into the program. That being said, he's probably the best transfer QB to come to Oregon in recent memory. He's definitely a step up from AB since he's a better (but not great) passer as well as plenty of experience against SEC competition. I imagine Lanning and Dillingham are making an educated guess based on the limited exposure to the current QB room and bringing Nix in as an insurance policy. All the current QBs are still very young and of course, Cristobal's now infamous reputation for under-developing QBs have probably led them to make this play. I think it's likely at least one QB transfers out...maybe Butterfield or Ashford.

  10. This is a transition year so of course recruiting will take a hit. Even with Riley on board USC's recruiting ranking isn't particularly good at the moment (#82).
  11. This doesn't mean the younger QBs won't get playing time, I'm hoping McClendon will give at least one of them a shot in the 2nd half.
  12. The more I read about Morgan Malchow, the more I like him. At every stop he's been a key cog in recruiting top 10 classes, this is good news. Looking at a couple A&M sites, quite a few of their fans aren't happy with this development.
  13. It depends on the mood of the Ohio State players. If they come in feeling deflated because they feel like they should have been in the CFP then Utah has a great shot at winning. If they come in extremely motivated and ticked off because they feel like they should have been in the CFP then it's gonna get ugly.
  14. But not unexpected. Things should improve once the rest of the coaching staff is settled.
  15. I certainly hope Lanning is able to keep McClendon on the staff, he's an excellent recruiter and a good WR coach. I also hope he holds onto Joe Salave'a, Jim Mastro, and Rod Chance at minimum.
  16. A lot of this won't be cleared up until Lanning fills out his coaching roster. Most recruits want to know who their potential position coaches are going to be before making a decision.
  17. I can definitely see both of those being factors. I mean, what kind of salary would Wilcox command based on his career results so far? Definitely no where near $7 million...
  18. We may never know the actual details and sequence of events that led up to the offer to Wilcox and his declining of it. All we can do is speculate based on what we do know. My guess is that there was a lot of pressure on Mullen to include consideration of candidates with Oregon roots due to the impression of Oregon being a "stepping stone" program (it's really not). So he brought in multiple Oregon boosters beyond just Phil Knight to hear their thoughts and came up with a plan for Wilcox and/or Chip Kelly BUT with a back-up plan with a candidate of his own (Lanning). That allowed him to cover his butt if Wilcox accepted and then went mediocre or bombed in the next few years as well as getting his candidate should he decline the offer. Mullen is smarter than a lot of people give him credit for.
  19. That first game of the season is going to be brutal. As if it wasn't tough enough playing Georgia...but integrating brand new offensive and defensive philosophies as well as a slew of new coaches at the same time? Ouch. Not trying to be pessimistic, just realistic 🙂 The timing for next season's pre-conference schedule is just awful for a regime change...
  20. I'd even tolerate the occasional dumb quote from him (as long as it's not horribly bad) as long as he generally behaved well and won games.
  21. I feel like the unknown status of Coach McClendon contributed to him going to Michigan...if perhaps Lanning had already signed McClendon up to come back then maybe Clemons signs with Oregon.
  22. This one was important given that Jayson Jones is transferring.
  23. Hopefully he'll follow suit soon. They haven't really said they're a package deal, though it's kind of been implied. Tucker committing is a good nudge in the right direction for Oregon to get Florence too, though he might be waiting to see who Lanning hires for his potential position coach before committing.
