  1. Stats say otherwise. Michigan offense is off almost 20 points with Harbaugh absent. Most of it is the night and day difference in QB play.
  2. In this case it was advantageous to have the ball intercepted downfield and tackled there rather than taking a 10 yard loss. It's should be better taught by position coaches to not intercept a pass on 4th down unless you think you have a clear path back to the line of scrimmage. It just dawned on me there must be some exception that the placeholder can hold a live ball while his knee is on the ground, even when he isn't placing the ball anymore.
  3. They absolutely should and will. I assume when they announce each of the seniors Webb will be announced post-humously, and likely with some production fanfare.
  4. One could think the combination of DeBoer's coaching and the available recruiting infrastructure at A&M would be a deadly combination, but DeBoer's inability to recruit would need to be addressed in some manner before they would actually offer him.
  5. The insidious part of the ranking system is the bias that comes into play when a team loses. When a PAC12 team loses to another PAC12 team they can fall a long ways, like WSU did. Farther than if they were in the B1G or SEC and lost to their conference teams. Now that WSU is considered a poor team due to their losses, it would be devastating for UW to lose to them, even though WSU is Jekyll and Hyde like Stanford and Utah and really punch above their weight When Ward and his receivers get going as we saw when we played them. If this was in Pullman I'd have bigger concerns, but it's in Seattle, so it would require 4 quarters of excellence from WSU with another ASU type outing from UW for an upset to occur. I'll put the odds at about 10%.
  6. DL is well aware of the beauty contest we are in. I see the starters playing nearly the entire Civil War game even in a blowout, and 100% of the conference championship even with a blowout. I don't see him slowing tempo in either game until the last drive or two of the 4th quarter either. We must clearly dominate both games. There is no alternative.
  7. Come on. FOX or ESPN will gladly take the $200 million windfall to show their games every weekend on FS1 or ESPN2.
  8. The only person they could find to take this job is: A) A fool B) Somebody that doesn't mind if this is his last coaching job in the big leagues. We saw what LR did to Grinch. That guy had an excellent D under Leach at WSU and now he is a pariah with with multiple years of nearly unlimited resources.
  9. I certainly felt Oregon fans were extremely loyal to suffer the Cristobal offense after the Kelly/Helfrich years. Mario was pissed for getting boo'd, but at least we showed up, despite the poor product! https://athlonsports.com/college-football/miami-hurricanes-legendary-college-football-program-embarrassing-crowd-senior-day
  10. In the article, the reason they give for Fisch being a good candidate is precisely why he wouldn't want the job: he has already lived in Michigan and coached in the big 10. Much better to renegotiate his current salary, be a perennial contender in the Big 12, and enjoy the Tucson, AZ lifestyle. And he's just spent 3 years pulling a team out of the dumpster. Does he really want to start over? At some point the extra millions have diminishing returns.
  11. I don't know about the southern vote. Which is better, a west coast boy who portalled to the SEC or a southern boy who portalled to the west? Definitely seems difficult for voters to understand stats that have a different denominator (minutes played) as well as understand the difference it makes to have a QB that calls his owns plays to have the best play against each defensive look every single down.
  12. Just checking the odds as of right now, Jayden Daniels is actually a slight favorite right now. As Heyward Duck said, the best thing going for Bo going forward is a Conference Championship while JD sits at home. The recency bias alone could majorly swing the contest in Bo's favor. All this presumption extrapolates his performance and the Ducks performance going forward.
  13. Win two games left before the Heisman vote, and Bo Nix firmly in the lead to win the award, it's time to start taking the probability of Bo winning seriously. As you all know he would be only our second winner ever after Marcus Mariota. I watched the video below from Joel Klatt who discussed the Heisman voting process. It is a ranked choice vote, so it isn't just the person at the top of the ballot that matters for each vote, it is getting on as many ballots as possible as high as possible. Joel discussed the "southern vote" and explained the reason Christian McCaffery didn't win the Heisman was because the southern voters intentionally left him off of their ballots completely to make sure Derrick Henry won. Joel also speculated that Bo would not be harmed by the southern vote because he is from Alabama himself. I think one other thing in Bo's favor is the sheer number of games played during east coast viewing hours that keeps him in the spotlight. Note this article below on McCaffery: Christian McCaffrey was told he lost a Heisman vote because the voter didn't stay up for his games SPORTS.YAHOO.COM Christian McCaffrey doesn't really care he finished second in Heisman voting -- but he can only laugh when he thinks about a potential reason why. Bo wont have that problem. I think Bo is in a great position to win the Heisman at this point. Certainly as long as he doesn't have a "bad game" with OSU or UW it's his to lose.
  14. I remember an old article that found only mild correlation between number of penalties and team success. The reason for the lack of correlation is that some teams players simply play closer to the fine line between a penalty and a legal play, and all the times they don't get called improve the chance for success that offsets the affect of the times they do get called. This obviously only applies to some type of penalties (PI and holding come to mind) and not others (like false starts and dead ball fouls).
  15. I am happy this not a night game. A daytime game should do us a little better, but there is something about that desert air...we didn't do well with Texas Tech either. Certainly I hope we play them as good as Utah played them and not like UW played them. I think it is excellent sports psychology for DL to tell the players that if they want to make the playoffs it will take dominant showing every single game. It isn't enough to win. They can't skate by ASU for an easy win. They need to play focussed and hard enough to dominate.
  16. I see it this way: You bring in HS recruits with the highest ceiling and portal transfers with the highest floor (higher than you project for anybody else on the current roster). We've already got Ty as our high ceiling potential guy, but his floor could still be too low to compete as a top program, so Dan will bring in a proven successful (relative to their team situation) QB. I don't see us taking Dante, but maybe the uniqueness of the situation could still make Dan take him plus another transfer portal QB that meets the above criteria and force the lowest on the totem pole to bail after spring ball.
  17. This just in, Riley takes the A&M job! Just kidding. But wouldn't that be funny?
  18. Georgia has to win the conference championship for us to get in. If they lose to Alabama then Alabama jumps us and Georgia won't fall below us with the way they've been playing and the length of their winning streak in the "vaunted SEC". There is an outside chance we still get in over 1 loss Georgia if we absolutely smash OSU and UW. If we barely scrape by ASU, OSU, and UW that opens the door for 1 loss Texas or 1 loss Ohio State to get in over us. Dan is smart enough to get the players to understand that nothing less than absolute dominance from here on out will be required for us to make the playoffs. Winning by itself won't be enough.
  19. I find it shocking that Riley's house is in Malibu. That's about a 2-3 hour drive each way to the USC campus in typical bad LA traffic. Even worse with I10 shut down. Every time he goes home he is falling behind other teams' coaches in work time. I'd have to think that during the season he simply never goes home. But if he indeed does, OMG.
  20. Great! Can we all now move on to talking about ASU?
  21. This is the argument a wise man makes. 7 mil vs. 10 mil, so what compared to living your life the way you want for you and your family. Oh and the old bird in the hand..things are going well for him at Oregon. It's a fine line between success and failure. 7 mil x 10 years vs. 10 mil x 3 years. Which is more?
  22. DO NOT RUN UP THE MIDDLE AGAINST ASU FOR SHORT YARDAGE PLAYS. UCLA was 0 for infinity doing that, and we haven't been doing so hot in that department lately either. I was also happy to see Dillingham run the swinging gate formation/play during a regular set of downs. Why not?
  23. If someone would have told me at the beginning of the season we would be running the clock out with a 35-26 lead and sideline shots would show USC feeling good about how they played and Oregon would be feeling and talking bad about how we played, I would have thought they were nuts. I'm going to enjoy the win. Yeah, playing like this will allow Texas and Bama to pass us like two drafting cars on a racetrack, but I'm not going to get upset about a stupid 4 team playoff. It's unfathomably restrictive for a 130 team league.
  24. P E N A L T I E S ! ! ! They are killing us this half. Need to clean it up in the second half. PAC12 after bedtime is dangerous to the best of teams. I'm nervous but not worried.
  25. Well, we got the result we wanted. Yuk.
