It's well publicized that USC did NOT want the Ducks tagging along with them to the B1G. The reason was simple and 2-fold: 1. Stop us from stealing their recruits. 2. Stop them from losing to us when we play. You may see where I'm going with this... It makes way too much sense for the 4 legacy PAC schools to keep playing each other every year as protected matchups due to history and travel distances. I don't buy the reason the league boss gave of more thoroughly integrating us. I think by only having us play in socal 4 times every 5 years it hurts our ability to recruit there and minimizes the number of opportunities for us to beat USC. After B1G told USC that Oregon wouldn't follow them just to end up doing that months later, it only makes sense that this B1G scheduling is their way to throw USC a bone. And by the time 2026 rolls around there will be more changes, the schedule will be redone again and perhaps then everyone will wise up that the 4 West Coast teams should play each other every year. What do you think?

Let's Discuss: Today's Other Games of Interest! (Spoilers)
Solar replied to David Marsh's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Fisch is an absolute doorknob at game management. OMG. All they had to do was run the football and keep it in bounds for the rest of the drive. Instead the QB is hucking deep passes, and ends up settling on a 50 yard field goal his kicker can't make. And give the ball back to Caleb Williams with 2 minutes left. But as I type this USC muffs the winning field goal. OMG. Bad play by PAC12 this week perhaps with the exception of the Beavers. -

Canzano: Oregon to Get a Rude Awakening in the B1G?
Solar replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
All I know is John hated the Ducks before we left his Beavers behind in the group of five. Of course he hopes the worst for us, but hope is not a plan. Dan has a plan, and the playoffs are expanding enough that you don't have to dominate every game all season. You just have be merely great and get hot at the end of the season. -

It's becoming a trend just how poor the OLs are in the PAC12. A combination of low talent and poor depth. Colorado, USC, WSU, UCLA, ASU, UA even UW and Utah aren't very good. The Oregon schools are the only ones that command some amount of respect. For as good as the coaches and QBs are in this conference the OLs are notably bad. -
The B1G Announces Oregon's 2024-2028 Home / Away Schedule
Solar replied to a topic in Our Beloved Ducks
My biggest hope for the playoff expansion next year is the committee can start focusing on the wins rather than the losses for the 6 at large bids. No more stepping on a rake or having a bad call by the officials for one game and being left out. I mean what if you beat a strong OSU, UM and UW, but drop 2 games and miss the B1G championship game? I'd like to think you still get in. -
The B1G Announces Oregon's 2024-2028 Home / Away Schedule

Agreed, why aren't the quad protected games? It would really help with the travel. Another wth is why are we playing 10 (!) conference games some years and 9 other years? -

They say September can fool a lot of people We are definitely going to find out who we really are when we play 4 quarters in Seattle this year. In addition, probabilities are a funny thing. Even if you are heavily favored in every game, if you play enough games you will eventually lose. 13 is a pretty large number. I don't think we can run the table. The only team I'm scared to lose to is WSU. They miss USC and Utah, and can easily steal a spot in the PAC12 Championship, especially if they have a tie-breaker over us. -
Ohio State and Penn State in the PNW, Michigan in California, and LSU in Vegas? A brave new world, I'm telling you. It's almost like free transfer portal recruiting to bring teams out from the rust belt to see how beautiful the west coast is and that we aren't all fruits and nuts like their parents told them we are.

Yep. If UW is so good, why has Penix had to play so much of the games? Their SoS isn't any better than ours. If we extrapolated Bo's stats for the same amount of playing time as Penix, they would be surprisingly close. Our Offensive stats would be ahead of UWs by a country mile.

The PAC12 absolutely dominated the out of conference schedule. There is no freaking way a one loss PAC12 Champ doesn't get in without massive questions on the integrity of the selection committee/process. Especially with a round robin of all contenders. 17% chance of missing? No way. .

I think AZ did a lot more for Oregon, showing us the weaknesses UW has and how to beat them.

If I remember his cast had actually broken and stabbed/cut his hand mid game. Didn't seem to affect his mood much, lol.

Smith could potentially end up a 5 star by signing day too.

The one thing in Oregon State's defense of saying they are Oregon's team is the number of players from Oregon on the roster, especially on scholarship. That does count for something in my book.
-
They won't play on the PAC12 Network even once this year. The big boys will pick up every single game.

Dan Lanning motivational methods have been a bit of a black box, and honestly they could have used a bit of work based on last year. I remember at about 2/3rds of the way through both of our rivalry games that I commented to myself that it looked like we were the better team, but the rival "wanted it" more. As others noticed, against Colorado is about the most motivated I've ever seen Lanning's team. Lanning obviously made a point to get his pregame speech shown during game. I definitely hope it is something Dan saw the need to improve on from last year and has made a point of improving himself in motivating the team. We are certainly going to need maximum motivation if we want to win the PAC12 this year.

Which is YOUR Most Likely Upset on Saturday?
Solar replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
When there is only a 5 rank difference between teams in week 4 I'm not sure you call it an upset. I mean really. There's a reason CFP meeting don't start until after the midpoint of the season. I'm not even sure the 10 rank spread for Utah vs UCLA would qualify it as an upset. Nobody knows just how good UCLA really is this year, because all we have so far is a narrative about who they lost, but they've destroyed bad teams. -
I noticed watching the games on the PAC12 Network that they aren't running as long as the games on the major networks. The reasonable explanation is they didn't add more in-game commercials to make up for the shorter play time like every other network did. So they just let a golden opportunity pass by to increase revenue for the programs. Another sign of incompetence, or maybe they just don't care anymore and would rather just watch the games? lol (Don't be too hard on me, this is a little tongue in cheek.)

A good reminder to Colorado and fans they aren't the only ones that can flash. Keep that legacy alive and kicking.

Oregon Ducks Favored by 21 Points Against Colorado: Too High?
Solar replied to a topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I had the same humorous thought seeing the final Texas WYO score. Someone could probably convince me WYO wins at home in week 1 or 2 (watching SEC monsters that have never seen a hill asphyxiating at 7k feet would be worth a watch), I don't think it would be particularly close in November at a neutral sea level site. -
Yikes! Huskies Lose Another Starter to Injury...
Solar replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
With both being transfers, I said "virtually" because it's hard to feel like you are missing something you never had. It is interesting to wonder if guys like boettcher would be seeing any LB time if Jacobs was our best LB on the field as has been projected. -
From a recruiting perspective, the comparative play between Oregon and USC playing Colorado back to back weeks could be a thing too. I'm a little worried that Colorado plays better on the road than at home due to their underdog mentality, but we'll see. The differentiator between Oregon and USC will still likely come down to which team's defense improves the most against the pass.
