  1. Oklahoma State is close from what I hear. If that’s considered quality
  2. Sure I get all that and you’re right on…it’s still a slate of terrible QB’s
  3. True, one can never discount the magic of Cristobal. That being said, the dude struggled with good weapons in the ACC and is coming in at #2? Mama Mia!
  4. Nice article, fun one. I’ve commented many times that 4 of the top 5 contenders in our new conference had new Qb’s, but hadn’t looked beyond that. Have to say, on the surface that’s not exactly murderers row. A washout from Miami makes the top 2, while what used to be the backup QB at Idaho, outranks the guy he used to back up who apparently isn’t good enough to start at OSU? Ethan Garbers at UCLA is the 5th best we’ll face? Seems like a lot of guesses at this point, but that has to be the weakest slate of QBs we’ve faced in decades.
  5. I’d probably add Miami to that equation, and possibly UNC. The “who”, and who they beat will probably be a big factor.
  6. Yeah, I think it will take something extraordinary for the B12 or ACC to get 2. I’m talking like an 11win team that finishes second. Last year the second place teams would have been 10 win Louisville and 9 win Oklahoma State at the end of conference play. Highly doubt they would get the nod over a team with 9+ win team(s) from the big 2. Time will tell!
  7. My post was envisioning a world where the ACC loses its brand names to the big-2, leaving the B12 to try to claim being #3. It’s absolutely a lot of leftovers if the top 4-6 brands in the ACC go to the big-2. All signs point to the ACC falling apart, or greatly diminishing prior to 2036. As to the playoff, I don’t think there's any way the SEC and B1G don’t get at least 3 each. Hard to get to 12 if those 2 only provide 4 teams combined.
  8. Agree. Also interesting that the ACC (which has multiple big brands, B12 has none starting in August) does so much better than the B12…yet is supposed to be the next to fold. If that’s not a sign we’re headed to a codified “super-league”, I don’t know what is. The B12 is not a legitimate #3 football conference.
  9. I think it’s fine. If we can’t beat Purdue on a short week then we’re going 7-5. They have a short week too…and they’re Purdue.
  10. That’s cool, I didn’t realize the PIG2 retained their auto-bid! Good for them, shrewdly in control of their destiny.
  11. Extra day to recover before tOSU and UI…short week for MSU and Purdue. I think washes out favorably overall, slightly.
  12. I think it’s certainly possible, but I’d never bet on it. Going undefeated is really tough…just look at how many close calls UW had against random teams last year. Something that seems to be getting glossed over a bit is that all the B1G contenders outside of PSU are starting new QB’s. Everyone is assuming they’ll all be just fine, but only time will tell. BTW, does anyone else struggle to remember the acronym B1G? I have to look it up every time. I always want to initially use B10 or throw in the letter T somewhere.
  13. Based on the structure of the question was definitely Mike B for me. Accurate expectation or not, I expected to win every game starting with Bellotti. However I love the point that PK was not involved, and was actually estranged with the UO for a period of time. He didn’t get involved until after Brooks broke through, and more specifically, after the Cotton Bowl beat down. Beavis loves to gloss this over. We actually accomplished something prior to PK being involved.
  14. Gee whiz, and it's Jabba Hard to not respect JJ, his research is always amazing.
  15. Awesome! I think last off-seasons switching of conferences and the death of the P12 is tough to top, but this may have done so.
  16. That’s the big caveat to all my Monday theories. No way it goes to 60 if they actually make cuts in the big 2. That being said, I don’t see it happening.
  17. What’s the incentive to keep the bottom half of the B1G? I think diversity of programs is what historically makes college football distinct. I think if the focus gets too narrow you might see national interest decline. I know my interest in the 4-team playoff disappeared until last year. But hey, I’m just some hack with occasional insights, I make no guarantees!
  18. They don’t all make viable sense, but not all of this makes sense by any stretch. I think if they were being purely bottom line, then some teams would be getting cut and they’d go with a 32 team league that didn’t include Vanderbilt, etc. I don’t think purely NFL lite is the way to go, so I’m guessing some programs like Utah will ultimately be included to balance out (if only a little) divisions geographically. For branding purposes, I think it needs to retain some of the charm of college football, which in my mind, needs to be at least 48 teams. Any program that’s better than Rutgers, Indiana, Purdue, Vanderbilt, etc. could conceivably make the cut if those terrible football programs are being included. I’m guessing that unless they cut teams, the super league/unholy alliance will be 60 teams.
  19. - naps are good! Much like an alien abduction, we had an annual release of a very popular video game that millions of people played for 20 years, suddenly disappear 10 years ago. Now it’s back, with a lot better technology to play with. FYI, the gaming company Electronic Arts, which owns EA Sports (Madden, NCAA, FIFA, UFC, PGA Tour, etc.) reported a net revenue of $7.5 Billion in FY24.
  20. Some good points for sure. Would have been nice to see what an expanded playoff could have meant for distributing the glory about 10 years ago. Unfortunately, I think the 4-team playoff created a concentration of opportunity, that resulted in about 10 teams really having a shot over a 10 year period. Ultimately, I believe there will probably be a new level of CFB that will have 2 divisions (rooted in the SEC and BIG), 48 - 64 teams in total. Those not in the top level will still play, this is just a recognition of reality, which will have them playing similar schools for championships. This will not be entirely equitable…I can’t imagine a scenario where the SEC or B1G actually kick members out. So getting into one of the big 2 before the ACC B12 “downgrade” is huge.
  21. Very similar, though I would add a “stage 8” as things continue to unfold nation wide, getting an initial half-share with all the juice we’re bringing while UCLA brings nothing to football with an immediate full share irks me a bit today. I guarantee our tv ratings will blow away UCLA’s, LA market or not. We’re a top-10 brand getting half of what Rutgers gets…UNC will not get a half-share when the ACC melts down. I get that timing is everything in business and am very glad we’re in, but it does irk me a bit. Hindsight. What I’m really looking forward to is moving away from theory and getting into the schedule and playing games. Basketball is going to be really interesting as well.
  22. I think it really depends on who it is that is "left out". Hard to top the fervor over FSU last year. 9-3 Oklahoma State finishing #13 probably won't upset anyone not in Stillwater.
  23. That seems like it should be right, considering who we're talking about here. Given the civil war result, it is easy forget that Beavis was pretty highly ranked last year. Turns out they had most of their games (10!) televised "above" the P12 Network. Even super-irrelevant WSU had 6 games above the P12 Network. 2023 Beavis Football Schedule Sunday Sep. 3 at San Jose State Spartans CEFCU Stadium, San Jose, CA 3:30pm ET CBS/Paramount+ W 42-17 Saturday Sep. 9 UC Davis Aggies Reser Stadium, Corvallis, OR 9:00pm ET P12N W 55-7 Saturday Sep. 16 San Diego State Aztecs Reser Stadium, Corvallis, OR 3:30pm ET FS1 W 26-9 Saturday Sep. 23 at Washington State Cougars Martin Stadium, Pullman, WA 7:00pm ET FOX L 38-35 Friday Sep. 29 Utah Utes Reser Stadium, Corvallis, OR 9:00pm ET FS1 W 21-7 Saturday Oct. 7 at California Golden Bears Cal Memorial Stadium, Berkeley, CA 10:00pm ET P12N W 52-40 Saturday Oct. 14 UCLA Bruins (HC) Reser Stadium, Corvallis, OR 8:00pm ET FOX W 36-24 Saturday Oct. 21 OFF Saturday Oct. 28 at Arizona Wildcats Arizona Stadium, Tucson, AZ 10:30pm ET ESPN L 27-24 Saturday Nov. 4 at Colorado Buffaloes Folsom Field, Boulder, CO 10:00pm ET ESPN W 26-19 Saturday Nov. 11 Stanford Cardinal Reser Stadium, Corvallis, OR 5:30pm ET P12N W 62-17 Saturday Nov. 18 Washington Huskies Reser Stadium, Corvallis, OR 7:30pm ET ABC/ESPN3 L 22-20 Friday Nov. 24 at Oregon Ducks Autzen Stadium, Eugene, OR 8:30pm ET FOX L 31-7 Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl Friday Dec. 29 vs Notre Dame Fighting Irish Sun Bowl Stadium, El Paso, TX 2:00pm ET CBS/Paramount+ L 40-8
